Hola guys! Recently I've gotten into UUs, since there are a lot of Pokémon I like (Starmie, Infernape, Mienshao, Slowbro, Metagross and more), so I decided to build a team which balances both offensive and defensive sides. So huh... Let's get started!
Infernape @ Choice Band
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Thunder Punch
- Fire Punch
- U-turn
When Infernape dropped to UU, the first thing I thought it was "That thing will wreck everything" and that's what it did. STAB Close Combat just destroys everything not named Slowbro/Mew. Seriously. Thunder punch deals a chuck on Slowbro (mainly). I opted for Fire punch instead of Flare Blitz because I wanted to make Infernape as much durable as possible, and while Blaze Kick had a higher critical ratio, it was less powerful than a Fire punch boosted by Iron fist. U-turn just grabs fast momentum and lets me switch-in a wall without much trouble.
Starmie @ Life orb
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Rapid Spin
- Hydro Pump
If I could, I'd put Starmie in every team I build, but I didn't see much use there, it covers some Infernape's weakness, spins away Rocks and such (Fletchinder highly appreciates this) and deals a bit of damage, but it really lacks the power it had last generation.
Blissey (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Bold Nature
- Aromatherapy
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
- Toxic
Blissey is, if not, the best addition to my team, after Fletchinder. 252 Def EVs are mandatory, as it lets her survive A LOT of physical hits, while still being able to tank most special hits (Alakazam's psyshock is a 3HKO, while she can survive Metagross' meteor mashes if they don't get any attack boost). Aromatherapy lets me cure most of my teamates (except Starmie), while Seismic toss/Toxic just deal damage. It's just Evioliteless Chansey, seriously.
Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Flamethrower
- Slack Off
Although Blissey was able to tank physical hits, that wasn't her role at all. So here comes one of the best walls in the game: Slowbro.
Slowbro's typing, bulk and regenerator were all the items it needed to wall most physical attackers in the tier. I would've liked an Assault VestBro more, but this one's not bad either.
Fletchinder
Ability: Gale Wings
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk
Naughty Nature
- Acrobatics
- Overheat
- Roost
- Swords Dance
Slowbro is a great wall, but it can't wall some attackers in the tier (mainly Heracross, some Infernape builds and Chesnaught), so here it comes Fletchinder. It's main role is to deal with those Pokémon. A mixed nature was preferred there because it lets me use Overheat, which 2HKOes Jirachi and Metagross on the switch, and, in Metagross' case, Fletchinder may use it to set up a swords dance and score a KO to him with acrobatics. Its piority helps a lot against weakned Pokémon too.
Mienshao @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Fake Out
- Stone Edge
- U-turn
This is my lead. Not really liking it but I didn't have better things in hand. I admit It's a good lead to fake out and use one of those moves, but I'd really like something that could be much more than a momentum grabber, which Infernape already does.
In a nutshell:
Fake out. Can Stone Edge/HJKick deal with the foe? Use them. No? U-turn.
Possible changes:
MegaStoise > Starmie
Analytic Specston > Mienshao // Jirachi > Mienshao
(improbable change but still)
Hippowdon > Slowbro
