I tried to come up with a Muk moveset a few days ago. As far as I know, it didn't see a lot of play last gen, so I was thinking of a way that it could be improved this gen.
However, as I am not really sure if this moveset will actually be very helpful, I would like some input from people over here to see if it can somehow be improved to work better.
Here it is:
Muk @ Leftovers
Sassy - 128 HP, 104 Atk, 64 Def, 80 SpAtk, 132 SpDef
Sticky Hold
- Curse
- Fire Blast
- Poison Jab / Gunk Shot
- Shadow Sneak / Explosion / Brick Break
With this spread, it has 384 HP (a magical Leftovers number) and 186 SpAtk, which is enough to 2HKO a Skarmory with max HP and min SpDef with Fire Blast, even if it holds Leftovers.
I'm not so sure about the third move. Poison Jab is obviously the most reliable one, as it never misses, but Gunk Shot deals considerably more damage if it hits. Gunk Shot also has a higher overall base power (84) than Poison Jab (80), but I'd rather not miss and waste a turn with this, as it's probably very vulnerable after it has used Curse once or twice.
For the last move, I decided that Shadow Sneak could be a nice thing to toy around with, because of the fact that it always goes first and thus negates the Speed loss from Curse and the nature, but it doesn't deal a high amount of damage. It's a nice move to take down Alakazam, and possible Azelf, down with, but outside of Super Effective hits, it won't do much good. Explosion was my second choice, because with Curse, it just kills most of the things you encounter, and it is one hell of a last resort move. Brick Break was just a move I came across and I doubt it would be that useful here. Still, Fighting moves provide very nice type coverage, but I'd still prefer one of the first two options on that moveslot.
I'd really like to see any comments on this (preferably constructive critisism only), because I like Muk as a pokemon and I'd love to be able to use it effectively in competitive battles.
