"art" by me. oh god why

Welcome to the triumphant return of Multi Random Battles! Bring along your bestie and find out whether you have the chemistry of champions, or if your friendship works better as a rivalry. Games will be played in the Best of 3 series in [Gen 9] Multi Random Battle format. There's no prize for this tournament, but it is worth qualification points for the Random Doubles Discord League Playoffs.

A Multi Random Battle is a tag team random doubles battle. You and your teammate each control three pokemon, and you can only swap between and select moves for your three. You can still target any player's pokemon with your moves. If all three of your pokemon get KO'd, your partner is left in a 1v2 until they can KO all three of an opponent's pokemon. Last team with a player still standing wins.

How is this tournament formatted?

This is a simultaneous double elimination tournament. Most importantly, that means that you aren't eliminated until you lose two matches. Last team standing wins. In practice, this functions like a Swiss tournament where players are automatically dropped at X-2. The upside here compared to standard double elimination is that teams will play every week until eliminated.

General Rules
  1. General Smogon tournament rules and regulations apply.
  2. Matches should all be scheduled by posting on your opponents' Smogon profile or beginning a Smogon group message ASAP. In the event that you're unable to schedule with/get a response from your opponent, post in that week's thread so action can be taken.
  3. If you fail to schedule or fail to show up for your match, you will receive a match loss. If you make no effort to schedule during week 1, you may be dropped from the tournament.
  4. Extensions will be granted sparingly. Plan accordingly. If you need an extension, post the time you're planning to play the match in the thread and a host will reply informing you if the extension was granted. If a match is not played due to no fault of the players and an extension isn't warranted, the result will be determined by coinflip.
  5. If one player is missing at match time, subs will be allowed. Do not abuse this. Players on a team still standing may not act as subs.
  6. Replays must be both saved and posted for every game played.
  7. All games should be played on Pokemon Showdown!
  8. No outside help or ghosting, though you may communicate with your partner during matches.
  9. Timer is non-mandatory, but any time outs will count as a loss for the timed out player.
