Munchin on some Ladder Points

Hello friends, my name is Magick and welcome to my first RMT. I've been playing RU as my main tier for a long time. Back in BW, I held 2 top 20 spots on the RU Ladder for a couple months. Since then school happened and so left all my time and my chances to grind up (though I did break top 100 before and during the Durant Suspect this year). Very Impressive, I know.

I was inspired to build this team around Munchlax in RU after watching some UU games and seeing Curselax putting in so much work.

I started with a core of

Munchlax +
442.png
Spiritomb +
662.png
Fletchinder and then sort of built around that.

I've been having success with it but nothing super noteworthy yet. It is a solid team to mess with.

Munchlax @ Eviolite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Curse
- Body Slam
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

The main focus and inspiration of the team. An absolute beast if he can get going. Thick Fat means he is one of the best Mega Glalie checks around and probably one of the only reliable walls to Mega Glalie that can set up in its face. He is also very good at checking Mega Camerupt and NP Houndoom. Using Spiritomb to trap and remove any pesky Ghosts in the tier, after a Curse or 2 even Fighting types have trouble breaking this. Base 85 Attack means that at +1/+2 even uninvested Body Slams will start packing a punch. The team is basically designed around dealing with answers to this pokemon.

spiritomb.gif

Spiritomb @ Black Glasses
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 212 HP / 252 Atk / 44 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Pursuit
- Shadow Sneak
- Will-O-Wisp

This Munchlax set can't touch Ghost types so its good buddy Spiritomb is here to help deal with the spooky ghosts. It is also a fantastic check to Medicham, who also destroys Munchlax. In turn, Munchlax checks Houndoom and Fairies that otherwise eat Spiritomb for lunch. Shadow Sneak over the normal Taunt in order to get reliable damage in on ghosts before getting Wisp'd or killed. Taunt was nice but more times than not my other 3 moves were better options. I have Munch to absorb Status so I never needed to Taunt them and prevent it.

fletchinder.gif

Fletchinder
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 152 HP / 252 Atk / 76 Def / 20 SpD / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Acrobatics
- Will-O-Wisp
- Roost

Fletch is one of, if not, the best mon in RU. It is such a reliable win condition. It can set up on so many things and most of its checks lack reliable recovery meaning they aren't checks for long. It also pairs beautifully with Spiritomb and Munchlax. It checks fighting types that Spiritomb can't handle, like Scrafty and Emboar, while also answering Ghosts like Cofagrigus who normally have no trouble vs Spiritomb when using a Wisp+Hex Set. Tomb in return checks mons like Slowking and Jellicent for Fletchinder. Fletch runs no item making it a great Knock Off switch in for mons trying to cripple Munchlax, while Lax can usually wall Diancie into next year. Outside of synergy, Fletch is just a reliable Secondary Win Condition and a useful utility mon, helping Spiritomb spread burns all around.

virizion.gif

Virizion @ Lum Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Leaf Blade

My answer to Fat Waters. Munchax and Spiritomb tend to handle all the Psychic, Fire, and Ice types that could threaten Virizion, so he was a good fit. Lum Berry to let me easily switch into Scalds and Toxics Galore. Stone Edge for Fletch's thinking they are clever for switching in. Justified is a huge help especially after already popping Lum Berry, as it is a nice deterrent from opponents clicking Knock Off, unless they like giving me a +1 Virizion. Not much to say, he was a great addition. I was pleasantly surprised at how much work he has been able to put in.

seismitoad.gif

Seismitoad @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Scald
- Earth Power
- Toxic

Half of my favorite Hazard Setter+ Removal core. Seismitoad is one of my favorite bulky waters due to its versatility. This is just a defensive set, useful for mons like non-Refresh Blastoise, Knock Alomomola, and ground types in general. It is also a very solid Jolteon check as most carry HP Water for Camerupt or HP Ice for Flygons. My Primary and honestly only real Sneasel check unless I'm ok with losing Eviolite on Munchlax or taking a ton with Fletchinder. He is a reliable Setter, great Scald Spammer, and a good pair with my last mon: Flygon.

flygon.gif

Flygon @ Wise Glasses
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Earthquake
- Defog
- Fire Blast

Last, but definitely not least, we have Flygon. No RU team could be complete without one. It is just too useful to not run. Flygon is in the same happy boat as Lando-T in OU. It is so versatile and useful that it is on every team, but it isn't so overbearing that it is problematic. I went with an Offensive Special Flygon because my team was a bit Physical heavy. Wise Glasses are a nice tech I made to bluff Choice (as I have no Scarfer) while still giving a boost in damage. Earth Plate gives a 1.2x damage amplifier to Earthquake while Wise Glasses gives a 1.1x damage amplifier to all my attacks. Wise Glasses over Life Orb to also keep Flygon healthier as I am running Fire Blast over Roost for Escavalier and other mons of that nature. Earthquake on a special set is mainly for Registeel and things like SDef Diancie which are both still hit harder by EQ.

hi, creative team based around munchlax however it also hinders you due to not having a solid check to stuff like Fletchinder, while the other Pokemon mentioned in the threatlist can be very problematic, specifically fighting types that aren't handled appropriately by spiritomb like scrafty. Therefore, I have a few changes to help improve your team.

First change I would recommend is changing your Seismitoad to Diancie.
This may seem like a strange change at first glance, however without this Pokemon your team is easily swept by Fletchinder, while offering a check to Sneasel. Virizion / Munchlax can switch into Scald because of the utility Diancie offers with Heal Bell, allowing you to heal off burns. Diancie also forms a very nice synergy with Flygon, switching into choice locked Dragon moves while Flygon possesses a ground immunity. Diancie also provides a decent check against Scrafty providing you aren't flinched by iron head with 4x effective moonblast, alongside Fletchinder.

After this change, I have some recommendations to the sets you are currently using. First, even if you choose to run this unique Flygon set for luring Pokemon like Escavalier, it is always recommended to run Earthquake over Earth Power in this meta simply because of the prominence of Registeel. This will give you a mixed set and make you have to run a Hasty nature, however the benefits of being able to do more damage to Registeel out weigh the cons of losing defensive stats. Next, I would recommend running 8 speed, taken out of SpDef on Fletchinder as a minor nitpick just to outrun other Fletchinder that may come in to stop your sweep with a speed tie. Finally, on Spiritomb I would recommend Foul Play over Shadow Sneak allowing for you to avoid 50/50s with Pokemon like Sigilyph and Xatu, deal damage to Fletchinder, and overall hinder Pokemon that may set up on you.

Diancie @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Heal Bell
- Moonblast
- Diamond Storm

Hope I helped!

I changed Flygon and Fletch to match your recommendations. They make a lot of sense. I'm currently messing around with Diancie and Foul Play on Spiritomb. If I end up sticking with them, I'll change the main post.

Thank you for the feedback =]
