In a metagame that is speed oriented, Munchlax stands out because of it’s high special defense stat and access to curse. This sets it apart from other set up sweepers, as this sweep is based on outlasting your opponent. Facade provides good STAB damage, which can be boosted even more if Munchlax picks up status conditions whilst setting up. Fire Punch makes it a good Ferroseed counter and Pawniard check while also giving extra coverage, and Recycle gives Munchlax longevity that it otherwise would not have, and allows it to stay healthy throughout the match.

Teammates like Grookey and physical attackers really benefit from having Munchlax on their team because if they get burnt, most become unusable for the rest of the match. Munchlax can switch into these burns, boost its Facade damage, and heavily damage something on the opponent's team. This Will-o-Wisp/Burn bait provides both a setup opportunity for Munchlax and saves the attacker from a potentially game changing burn. Thick fat also lets it tank ice moves for a teammate like Mudbray, Archen, and Grookey, or a fire move from something like Ponyta or Larvesta for teammates like Grookey or Pawniard. Pokemon that are weak to special attacks also appreciate having Munchlax on their team, as Munchlax can once again switch in and set up. Munchlax is also a good Larvesta counter because it can take advantage of Larvesta's flame body and high burn potential to boost its Facade damage.

Other Options

RestTalk Munchlax is also another set you could run, though Recycle Berry Juice is more efficient because it can also full heal you, without the drawback of two turns of sleep. Another reason why RestTalk is outclassed by CurseLax is because Sleep Talk only has a ⅓ chance to hit the move you want. If Earthquake were to replace Fire Punch, then it would counter both Pawniard and Onix, but Munchlax would lose its utility against Ferroseed, which would wear it down with Iron Barbs, Knock Off, and potentially Synthesis. Seed bomb allows Munchlax to hit Onix and Water types, but it once again loses utility against Ferroseed.

Checks and Counters
-----------------------------
**Mienfoo**: Mienfoo already has high fighting type damage, and Munchlax’s fighting weakness and overall lower defense stat does not help it survive High Jump Kick. Mienfoo being commonplace in the meta also does not help Munchlax’s situation. Munchlax should always have a fighting resist or immunity on the team to bait and punish High Jump Kick. Teammates like Koffing can switch in on High Jump Kick, damage Mienfoo, and wear it down with Neutralizing Gas to block Mienfoo’s Regenerator. Ghost-types like Frillish can directly punish Mienfoo by switching in on High Jump Kick and taxing half of Mienfoo’s HP.

**Setup Sweepers**: Setup sweepers Tyrunt, Onix, and Timburr can capitalize on Munchlax’s setup strategy, and start setting up themselves, and can eventually Overpower Munchlax, and then roll though the rest of its team. Teammates like Abra can stop Timburr and Onix from setting up by using Psychic and Energy Ball, respectively. If Tyrunt loses its sturdy to hazards, Abra can also Psychic on a switch and remove it.

**Archen**: Archen’s fast and high damage output makes removing Munchlax easy for it before Munchlax sets up. Munchlax should always have teammates like Staryu or Magnemite to switch and Revenge KO Archen should it try to take out Munchlax in the Early game.

Munchlax is one of the best special tanks and after set up, general tanks in the tier, with its high special defense stat and access to curse. Due to these factors, Munchlax can dominate games if left alone. (This feels wordy. Too many commas aswell.) Facade provides good STAB damage, which can be boosted even more if Munchlax gets statused. Fire Punch makes it a good Ferroseed counter and Pawniard check while also giving extra coverage, and Recycle gives Munchlax longevity that it otherwise would not have, and allows it to stay healthy throughout the match.

Munchlax is very weak to fighting types like Mienfoo and therefore appreciates having a teammate like Abra or Archen to counter them. And although not as common in little cup, Munchlax is very weak to Toxic, as its set up and bulk oriented playstyle can’t go on for long with Toxic crippling its health turn after turn, though Toxic can easily be countered by Pawniard, Mareanie, and Koffing. ( Move this down to counters section.)

Other Options
-------------------

Some other options for Munchlax could include a Toxic stall set, though, with Mienfoo all over the meta, it would likely get KOed before it can even get a Toxic off. Knock Off would also cripple this set as it gets rid of either its extra bulk in eviolite, or passive recovery in leftovers. Another option could be a choice band set, but Munchlax's low speed tier and little investment into defenses with this set leave it vulnerable to attacks from anything that outspeeds it. Choice scarf sets would make Munchlax faster, but it's lackluster offensive typing and low defense stat leaves it vulnerable to getting KOed by bulky pokemon like Larvesta or Mienfoo. (None of these "Other Options" are viable. Instead, talk about RestTalk Munchlax, or Other moves it can use for coverage (Example: Seed Bomb allows Munchlax to not be Walled by Onix, but it loses the Coverage Fire Punch provides against Ferroseed.)

Checks and Counters
-----------------------------

**Mienfoo**: Mienfoo already has high fighting type damage, and Munchlax’s fighting weakness and overall lower defense stat does not help it survive high jump kick. High Jump Kick. Mienfoo being commonplace in the meta also does not help munchlax’s (Capitalize Munchlax) situation. Munchlax should always have a fighting resist or immunity on the team to bait and punish high jump kick. High Jump Kick. (Which fighting resist or immunity? Talk about Poison Types like Koffing here and why they are good counters to Mienfoo and why they are good partners to Munchlax.)

**Toxic**: Although very niche, toxic can completely cripple anything that Munchlax tries to do because it is stall and setup oriented. Pokemon like Mareanie or Koffing can toxic Munclax and stop it from setting up or dealing considerable damage. Abra can switch in on toxic and then revenge KO whatever was trying to toxic Munchlax. This works especially well because abra has a toxic immunity in magic guard. (Toxic is really bad in Little Cup, you also need to capitalize more. Instead of talking about these as counters, talk about Onix, Archen, and Setup sweepers wall it and for the latter, can set up on Munchlax.)

**Diglett**: After weakening Munchlax with extra damage, life orb Diglett can trap and KO Munchlax if it has not set up any curses. If Munchlax has curses set up, Diglett can KO Munchlax with final gambit if it is at 60% HP, but this only works if Diglett switches in unscathed. (See above)

I would say suggest checking the Spelling and Grammar Standards thread. Of course this isnt that fleshed out, but this is just some of the common errors i saw in the writing. Happy writing!

QC Reject 1/1
The QC team have decided to reassign this analysis. There are various inaccuracies and misunderstanding of Munchlax's niche in LC, and it would take a lot of effort on our part to make this up to standards (basically akin to rewriting it ourselves). We encourage to stick around, check out other preview analyses on so you can have a better outlook on what we are looking for, and perhaps write in the future. Locking this thread.
