- Munchlax carves a niche by being one of the best Specially Defensive walls in PU, checking top tier threats like Aurorus, Choice Specs Jellicent and Mesprit, and Lilligant.
- Eviolite coupled with high HP and Special Defense stats allow it to blanket check most strong special attackers, while also being able to deal with weaker physical attackers, like Alolan Dugtrio and Choice Scarf Togedemaru, by sheer virtue of Eviolite making its Defense passable.
- However, while both of its moves hit the majority of the tier, Munchlax is a rather passive Pokemon, letting in strong physical attackers like Gurdurr, Stoutland, and Dodrio, with Munchlax doing either pitiful damage to them all or giving Gurdurr a guts boost and Stoutland a Facade boost with Toxic.
- Munchlax also faces stiff competition from Type: Null, which has a higher defensive stat and a pivoting move in U-turn, which mitigates the mind games that Munchlax instead has to play with the opposing Pokemon.
- Munchlax is also incapable of OHKOing Pokemon that Earthquake is supposed to hit, such as Aggron, Lycanroc, and Alolan Sandslash, from full, giving them either a chance to set up or giving them a free hit.

Moves
========
- Earthquake is preferred over a STAB move as it lets Munchlax hit standard Normal-resistant Pokemon, namely Steel-types that are immune to Toxic, like Aggron, Togedemaru, and Probopass.
- Toxic hits almost everything that Earthquake can't hit super effectively or at all, such as Mesprit and Articuno, while also crippling defensive walls like Mudsdale, Regirock, and Tangela.
- Rest combined with Sleep Talk gives Munchlax semi-reliable recovery.
Set Details
========
- Maximum Defense is used over maximum HP because its already high HP in contrast to its low Defense stat makes the former's increase negligible.
- Thick Fat lets it better check Ice- and Fire-types.
Usage Tips
========
- Munchlax will be your main specially defensive wall, switching in to many strong special attackers like Aurorus, Alolan Exeggutor, and Ludicolo, while also being able to check weaker physical attackers such as Togedemaru, Alolan Dugtrio, and Regirock. Munchlax, however, doesn't want to directly switch in to most physical attackers due to a naturally low defense stat.
- Unless played on a designated team with a Heal Bell user, Munchlax has to play its Rest turns well enough to still be able to check the previously mentioned special, and physical, attackers; or at least cripple / damage them enough so they're not an issue for the rest of the team.
- While being able to deal with a large amount of the tier, Munchlax also suffers with both its reliance on prediction and allowing some of the best Pokemon in the tier for almost free. The former means that incorrect prediction lets in Pokemon like Aggron, Substitute Oricorio-G, and Alolan Sandslash. The latter means that Pokemon like Gurdurr, Stoutland, and Dodrio get in for basically free, with the former two getting a boost from either Guts or Facade.
- Against more defensive teams Munchlax's job wont be dealing damage but will be used for status absorbing and Rest-stalling, with it being played with caution, but against more offensive teams Munchlax should be played more aggressively as they're easier to weaken; unless the opponent has a specific late-game sweeper like Omastar or Lilligant.
