Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Synthesis
- Leech Seed
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
I wanted to start a team with my favorite Pokemon, which is Venusaur. Most common set I’ve seen, played with, played against. Synthesis for instant and large healing, which I really like on my defensive pokemon. Leech Seed for extra healing, and can carry over to healing my other team mates. Giga Drain is there for STAB and even more healing. Sludge Bomb is there for STAB, and to hit Magic Guard Clefable. I hate playing against Magic Guard clefable. Venusaur serves as ½ of my defensive core, and able to absorb most physical attacks. EVs outspeed Azumarill so I can get that Giga Drain off.
Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Lava Plume
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
- Roar
Heatran forms the other ½ of my defensive core. VenuTran core is simple amazing. One covers physical, one covers special. They cover each other’s weakness perfectly. I lead with Heatran 9/10 times. Trying to get off a Stealth Rock. I have Toxic to help wear down the opponent. Roar is for taking care of anyone who tries to set up on him. Lava Plume is STAB with a nice chance to burn. I use to run Will-O-Wisp on Heatran on a different team, and I miss it. My endgame of this team is to get Dragonite in and set up a Dragon Dance or 2. I like Will-O-Wisp to cut an opponent’s attack in half which could allow Dragonite to get off an extra Dragon Dance.
Dragonite @ Lum Berry
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Extreme Speed
- Earthquake
This guy is just too good. His Attack stat is insane, and when you combine that with a +1 STAB Outrage, what can really stop it? Other than a fairy, which is one I would consider Iron Head on this set, but then Steel Types would wall me. Heatran also appreciates Dragonite resisting all of Heatran’s weaknesses. Lum Berry helps snap out of confusion, or allows me to get off a Dragon Dance while the opponent tries to Burn/Paralyze/Toxic. Outrage is for STAB, Earthquake for coverage, and Extreme Speed to help with any priority users. Though the only ones I can think of it being useful for would be Talonflame and Azumarill. This is just off the top of my head, so I could be wrong. And as I think about it more, I don’t really ever find myself using this move. I’m sure it’s the right choice, but I’m on the fence. Can someone give me a reason to keep it? Otherwise I might experiment with a different move.
Starmie @ Choice Specs
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
Starmie is under rated in my book. I wanted a hazard remover to help keep Multiscale active. Starmie provides me with that. I wanted to complete an F/W/G core. Starmie provides me with that. I wanted a strong special attacker, and yup, Starmie provides me with that. Choice Specs + Analytic makes for insane power. Starmie is also very fast, sitting at ~361 speed which out speeds a lot. I like Psychic for STAB and to get rid of fighting types. Thunderbolt is nice coverage, and helps me take out bulky water types. I wanted Ice Beam for the classic Bolt/Beam, but I’m not sure what it helps me do really. I’m not sure I’ve had a situation where I wished I had an ICE attack instead of a WAT attack. I know you will tell me to use Hydro Pump, or at the very least Surf, but I’m such a sucker for Burn chance. I just am. I could easily change Scald for Ice Beam/Hydro Pump/Surf (for Accuracy) if I had a little persuading.
Bisharp @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Pursuit
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
The way Dragonite helps out Heatran, Bisharp helps out Venusaur. I’ve never really used a pursuit user before, but it’s so much fun. I absolutely love switching in on Lati@s and Gengar and destroying them. I’m also a big fan of Defiant. Pretty standard Bisharp. Sucker Punch STAB Priority, Pursuit for trapping, Knock Off for STAB utility and Iron Head for fairies. Because I have Iron Head, would I be better off replacing Venusaur’s sludge bomb with something else?
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Moonblast
- Moonlight
- Heal Bell
- Calm Mind
Ugh! I love Clefable, but I can never make up my mind if I want Unaware or Magic Guard. Since I have Roar on Heatran, I go with Unaware, which adds to Clefable’s longevity. There’s so much I want Clefable to be able to do. Moonblast is a must have. Moonlight is also a must have for me. I just love having 50% (usually) healing on a defensive pokemon. I use Heal Bell to keep Bisharp, Dragonite and Venusaur healthy. Calm Mind gives Clefable a lot of power, allowing me to dish out plenty of damage before the opponent realizes what’s going on and it’s too late. I would like to have Wish support to help Heatran recover better, as well as Bisharp and to reactive Multiscale, but I’m not sure which move to get rid of. And with Wish, usually comes protect, unless I keep Moonlight. I just don’t know!
Anyways, like I said before, I want to wear down the opponent, and when I see an opportunity, bring in Dragonite and Dragon Dance then sweep.
