XY NU my 1st Pawniard RMT NU team.

Hey guys I'm mrnastyafrican and this is my first RMT on smogon. I been playing in NU for about a month or so and I been playing with this team for about a week. Im posting my team to have some insight on what i should improve on.

pawniard.gif

Pawniard@eviolite
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 40hp/252Atk/108Def/108SpDef
Adamant: (+Atk,-SpAtk)
(Sword Dance/Knock Off/Sucker Punch/Brick Break)

I chose to build my team around pawniard, it is one of my favorite mons in NU and it so happens to be one of the deadliest. I decided to go with a bulky SD set because it seems to be the most effective.. to me anyways. Knock off is a great move in general and plus it gets STAB same as sucker punch. Brick break is there to hit other pawniards and other steel types.
weezing.gif

Weezing@BlackSludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: (252hp/240Def/16SpDef)
Bold:(+Def,-Atk)
(Sludge Blomb/Rest/Sleep Talk/Stock Pile)
I decided to put Weezing on my team because it seems to synergize well by resisting fighting type and ground type moves while Pawniard is immune to psychic. I tried to build a physically defensive set, sometimes i replace stock pile with willOwisp but stockpile works better for me in most cases. sludge bomb is there for a STAB.

rhydon.gif

Rhydon@eviolite

Ability: Rock Head
EVs:(252hp/200Atk/56SpDef)
Adamant:(+Atk,-SpAtk)
(Stealth Rock/Rock Blast/Earthquake/Roar)
Rhydon is initially there for the fire resist that Pawniard is afraid of and the ability to scare out fire types, so i can put out my stealth rocks. Choiced Lock fire types are perfect for Rhydon to switch in on but just be careful of LO pyroar and AV magmortar as they both can carry super effective moves. (HP grass, focus Blast).

mantine.gif

MantineLeftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs:(252hp/252SpDef/4SpAtk)
Calm:(+SpDef,-Atk)
(Defog/Scald/Toxic/Protect)
My initial thought when i built this team was "i need a defogger" but not just any mon could fit this role. so i got mantine because his water absorb ability he can switch in on water attacks meant for rhydon and he also resist fighting. Toxic is there to wear down pokemon that wall mantine and scald is there for STAB and a chance to burn fighting pokemon.

pyroar-f.gif

PyroarChoice Specs
Ability: Unnerve
EVs:(252SpAtk/252Spe/4hp)
Modest:(+SpAtk,-Atk)
(Fire Blast/HP Grass/Dark Pluse/Hyper Voice)
Pyroar is one of the best fire type mons in NU right now. Its fast and with choice specs it can hit pretty much anything hard in NU. Fire Blast is Pyroars strongest STAB move and hyper voice is there for neutral damage on anything that resist fire blast. HP grass is for siesmitoad and dark pulse is for psychics,ghost,etc...

mismagius.gif

MismagiusLifeOrb

Ability: Levitate
EVs:(252SpAtk/252Spe/4Spd)
Timid:(+Spe,-Atk)
(Nasty Plot/Taunt/Shadow Ball/Psychic)

Mismagius is good addition to the team because he is immune to fighting and ground type moves. With Taunt Mismagius can lead against stealth rockers like uxie and mesprit and force them to switch out unless they want to die from shadow ball.

Hello, and welcome to Smogon :)

While I went through and tested your team, I actually really liked it. Some unorthodox strategies and plays and stuff, but I really thought it was fun and did a good job.

The first thing I changed, almost immediately after starting to ladder, was Brick Break ---> Iron Head on Pawniard. I tried it out a couple times on some Steel-types, and I think I would have 4HKOed the Steelix had it not been about wreck me with Earthquake. I switched to Iron Head because it is a solid STAB attack and it hits a lot of Pokemon neutrally, providing solid coverage alongside Knock Off. Another thing that I tried out was Swords Dance ---> Substitute. While this may seem like an odd set, I found it worked nicely. I rarely ever found the opportunity to use Swords Dance, but I found that slower status users gave me plenty of opportunities to set up a Substitute and give me some free attacks. However, as this change is a little bit more strange, I'm just going to leave it as sort of a loose suggestion than advice. Try it out, see how it goes and such things.

I also made a slightly bigger change. I found, after playing through with this team for a while, that Rhydon never really did much of anything for me. Every now and then it got a lucky KO with Rock Blast, and sometimes it got Stealth Rock up, but aside from that, it was pretty useless. I didn't even need it for a Fire-type resist, because Mantine has the special bulk to take on Pyroar, Magmortar, and Typhlosion with ease. That's why I made the ever-so-awful change of Rhydon ---> Ferroseed. Pretty much, Ferroseed kept the same immense defensive wall that you needed, it added a much needed Grass-type STAB attack, it kept Stealth Rock up much more reliably, and it worked well with Mantine by helping take advantage of Toxic with Protect, and honestly it didn't add any problems to the team that I noticed. Here's the set that I ran:

Ferroseed @ Eviolite
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Seed Bomb

Leech Seed and Protect, along with Mantine's Toxic, stalled out a lot of dangerous sweepers and, frankly, enraged tons of people. Stealth Rock crippled Fire-types that are a little bit more of a threat to this team. Seed Bomb takes out Seismitoad, Golem, Rhydon, and all those similar Rock-, Ground-, and Water-types that are such an annoyance in this tier.

Good luck and have fun with NU! :)

Thanks Lord Alphose right after i made this post i took rhydon off and put ferroseed in anyway rhydon was not really helping the team as much. I used the feroseed set you suggested above and it seems to synergize better thanks are there any other suggestions?

None come to mind. I simply wish you good luck in the future and hope you stick around and join in the forums and on PS!

First and foremost I would change: Mismagius Psychic -- > Dazzling Gleam or Dark types will just wall you
Weezing: I'd run Wilo-O-Wisp | Clear Smog | Pain Split | Flamethrower/Sludge Wave
Pyroar: Dark Pulse -- > Will-O-Wisp / Flamethrower in my opinion dark pulse just gives fighting types a free switch in, wisp for the fighting types that may wanna switch in such as thick fat hariyama or flamethrower for more reliable stab in clutch situations

Also, I think you should run a different spread on Pawniard:
Pawniard @ Eviolite
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Knock Off
- Pursuit / Swords Dance

This spread allows you to live most non-stab earthquakes
An example being Archeops:
252 Atk Archeops Earthquake vs. 32 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Pawniard: 206-244 (86.1 - 102%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO
But if you sucker it first you'll put it in to defeatist:
252 Atk Defeatist Archeops Earthquake vs. 32 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Pawniard: 104-124 (43.5 - 51.8%) -- 9.4% chance to 2HKO

You can even live and earthquake from Seismitoad comfortably:
0 Atk Seismitoad Earthquake vs. 32 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Pawniard: 186-218 (77.8 - 91.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

You way want to try Colbur Berry HP:fighting Mismagius to snipe Pawniard on the switch? Just a thought. Anyway even LO Mismagius puts Pawniard into some intresting 50-50s. The Weezing set is kinda suboptimal. Rest-Talk is a little too passive unless you have a Heal Beller on the squad. Maybe put Fire Blast instead of stockpile? You can even try garbodor(Spikes/Toxic Spikes) in Weezing's place to encourage the opponent o Defog on you! At that point you could get rid of Mantine and Run Seismitoad for Stealth Rocks and remove Stealth Rock from Rhydon add a different move and make Rhydon more Sp.Defensive to more effectively check Fire Spma. Pawniard is only awesome imo if there is a reason for the opponent to uise defog. Garbodor+Seismitoad is pretty boss in gettign the hazards up and you ahve a spin-blocker in Mismagius. Give my suggestions a spin ^^
