My First Comfortable VGC Team

Hello everyone,

I am a veteran in Pokemon (Played since 1999 with Blue) but had just recently learned about its competitive aspect. This is my attempt on making a team that I feel comfortable with. I have already shuffle a lot of things around and this current roster is the one that I'm happy with the most. Please leave a comment on how to improve my team or any tips with the Pokemons that I am using.

THE SPECIFICS

645.gif

Landorus with Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Force | Nature: Adamant
EVs: 4HP|252ATK|252SPE
*Earthquake
*Rock Slide
*U-Turn
*Explosion

I chose him because I feel like I need a good ground physical stab user that is not Garchomp.
It's my main scout and counter to sand teams. The reason why I put Choice Scarf on him is to be able to fire off my U-Turn in most situations.
When I pair him up with my Latios, a surprise fast EQ can quickly make the score 3-4 in my favor.
In time of need, I can also fire off a quick explosion with an amazing speed.

381.gif

Latios with Dragon Gem
Ability: Levitate | Nature: Timid
EVs: 4HP|4DEF|248SPA|4SPD|248SPE
*Draco Meteor
*Psychic
*Hidden Power - Fire
*Protect

This is the standard Latios build and one of my main offensive Special Sweeper.
I chose Latios mainly because of its speed. With a Tailwind, I can outmatch every Rain team pokemon.
The Hidden Power - Fire is there for the lack of fire coverage on my team to deal with Steel pokemons.

488.gif

Cresselia with Leftover
Ability: Levitate | Nature: Sassy | IV: 0 SPE
EVs: 252HP|28DEF|32SPA|196SPD
*Psyshock
*Icy Wind
*Hidden Power - Fire
*Trick Room

This is one of my two support Pokemons.
The EV Spread is made to not die under 2 STAB Crunches from Tyranitar while dishing out enough dmg to 2HKO Hitmontop.
This will also by my main Trick Room counter, as well as my secondary fire coverage via Hidden Power.

479-wash.gif

Rotom-Wash with Sitrus Berry
Ability: Levitate | Nature: Modest
Evs: 4HP | 252SPA | 252 SPE
*Thunderbolt
*Hydro Pump
*Hidden Power - Ice
*Protect

This is my secondary Special Attacker, with a much needed electricity and water coverage.
I originally put Electric Gem on him but found out that I needed some HP regeneration to survive some situation.
The hidden power Ice is my main counter to any Groun/Dragon/Grass type

212.gif

Scizor with Life Orb
Ability: Technician | Nature: Adamant
Evs: 252HP | 252ATK | 4SPD
*Bullet Punch
*Bug Bite
*Pursuit
*Protect

This will be my main physical attacker. The choice of a Life Orb is to make him a standing killing machine.
I chose Pursuit as my 3rd attack mainly to combo with my Whimsicott. After I Encored a Protect, it is very likely that they switch, which is when I will Pursuit.
I can also predict switches and Pursuit that too. I'm not sure about the mechanics but I don't know if the double damage pursuit will still benefit from the Technician Ability
I maxed HP because both Pursuit and Bullet Punch are priority moves.

Whimsicott with Focus Sach
Ability: Prankster | Nature: Timid
Evs: 252HP | 4SPD | 252SPE
*Tailwind
*Giga Drain
*Encore
*Swagger

This is my favorite pokemon as well as my secondary support. I just love Whimsicott =)
I can outspeed any other Prankster user with this build. The Tailwind offers me a viable way to deal with Rain team, Encore to lock people in Protect so I can Pursuit, the Swagger to annoy opposition's support and Giga Drain in case I got taunted.
My main concern with him is to get Fake Out-ed, as I have no way to deal with that.
Again, I love this pokemon and think that he's the main play-maker on this team

CURRENT PROBLEMS
The first problem that I noticed is my weakness to Ice. I have 3 Pokemons with weakness to Ice (Landorus, Latios and Whimsicott). Which means that I will have a hard time dealing with rain teams.

I also found that having two psychic Pokemons is a bit hard to play, as sucker punch (or any Dark Type) will generally K.O. my Latios relatively fast.

CONSIDERATIONS

I am currently considering a Thundurus on my team. (Which is why I am trying to get hold of one) I feel that with Thundurus on my team, I can have a better coverage, but I still have to test it out (as I do not have one right now, I caught mine before knowing about RNG and it has a crappy IV Spread).

I am also looking at Zapdos instead of Thundurus, but still haven't tried it yet. Need to know how your guys think about it.

CHANGE LOGS

Interesting Notes:
-The team originally has a Brave Ursaring with Flame orb in it to counter Trick Room teams. While it was fun (something), it is too situational for it to become viable.

Special Thanks To: Everyone in the Smogon Community and people who will help my complete my final team!

This is a pretty nice and standard team, here's some observations I have so far:

-Any reason you're using Scarf Landorus-I over Therian? Therian loses 10 base speed even with a Scarf, but it has a much less situational ability and more power. Superpower also should go over Exlposion, because you lack any sort of Fighting-type coverage.
-I'm thinking Hydreigon might be better than Latios on your team. HP Fire Latios only has 30 Speed IVs, meaning it will always be outsped by the standard Latios seen around. You already have Cresselia to get the Psychic coverage down, and Hydreigon has more reliable Fire-type moves on its side

More of my thoughts soon.

hi, also TKOWL already mentioned, I would try landorus-t with scarf. Also, I might go with psyshock over psychic to hit most of our spdef. oriented meta game for more damage. On scizor, try swords dance and steel gem over pursuit. once scizor gets a +2 up, it's deadly. I hate to say it, but whimsiott is adding more weaknesses to your team. It has poor synergy with the dragons, landorus and scizor... I would replace it with something like thick fat hariyama (lol idk) which will also solve your dark weakness too.

What do you guys think about Hitmontop? I think replacing Whimsicott with him can be helpful.

At the same time, replacing Whimsicott will leave me with no real answer to Rain team as none of my Pokemons can outspeed Kingdra/ Ludicolo during the rain.

EDIT: The main reason why I kept Landorus and not using Landorus-T is because I'm playing on my Black Catridge. I got the Latios from my brother's Black 2 but I do not have White 2 myself. =(

If you don't want your Latios getting KO'd by Sucker Punch you can use Substitute.

Also if you want something against steel types you shouldn't just put HP [Fire] on something. I would recommend Infernape. It is a great in combination with Latios, it can deal with steel types and you would get rid of your big ice weakness.

Infernape (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 116 Atk / 140 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature
- Overheat
- Close Combat
- Fake Out
- Protect

You said before replacing Whimsicott would make your team weak to rain teams. I disagree. You can use can use Trick Room on Cresselia not only to counter Trick Room but also to stop rain teams since they rely on the speed from Swift Swim.

If you do this you should change your Rotom to 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spd (I don't think that it needs the speed investment anyways).

I hope this made sense and I can help you with this. :]
