Rate My Team
Hello. I’m Bippa and I just started competitive battling. This team did get me pretty far, up to a rating of 1250. But lately it hasn’t been performing very well, so I’m posting this to get some help, because I have no idea what to do. I’m open to all suggestions, as long as my team doesn’t become bog-standard.
Thundurus (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Nasty Plot
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Taunt
I originally had support Thundurus in my lead spot, with Taunt/TWave/Volt Switch/HP Ice, and it worked pretty well, because it usually stopped hazards, as well as set-up leads. Then people expected what I was doing, and the value of the set fell. So I switched to this set. Priority Taunt still helps Thundurus in the lead spot, but Nasty Plot starts the momentum. In fact, with Nasty Plot, all Thundurus need is rocks to 2HKO Blissey (Hmm, maybe it should be uber). HP Ice is for more coverage, getting boltbeam coverage. Focus Sash guarantees that I don’t spend my first turn Nasty Plotting, only to be killed in that same turn.
As much as I like Thundurus, I’d like to find a replacement, because it is likely that it could get banned.
Scizor (M) @ Lum Berry
Trait: Swarm
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- Brick Break
- Swords Dance
- Bug Bite
I originally had Conkeldurr instead of Scizor, but I’ve found Scizor works better. Without it, I didn’t have much of a way to get around Reuniclus. Swords Dance is pretty self explanatory, boosting Scizor’s attack to very high levels. Bullet Punch and Bug Bite are both boosted by both STAB and Technician, making them very powerful. Brick Break gets Scizor around Ferrothorn and other steels wanting to stop his sweep. It’s a pretty self-explanatory set.
I suck majorly at EV spreads, so I have no idea if the one I have is good. So far, it’s been going well, but I don’t know if it could be better.
Hydreigon(M) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 188 Atk / 64 SAtk / 252 Spd
Naive Nature (+Spd, -SDef)
- Outrage
- Flamethrower
- Dark Pulse
- Surf
I really like this Hydreigon set. Normally, Blissey and Chansey come in to stop it, only to be on the receiving end of a powerful Outrage. Steels also can stop Hydreigon’s sweep, but Flamethrower stops most of them, all but Heatran, Empoleon and the Rock/Steels. Surf beats two of those three Pokemon, as well as being a powerful attack under Drizzle. Dark Pulse rounds out the moveset as a second STAB attack for Hydreigon, as well as hitting Ghosts.
What I’m really wondering about is the EV spread, because I haven’t seen much like this Hydreigon set.
Rotom-W@ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 104 HP / 252 SAtk / 152 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Pain Split
One of my favourites, Rotom-W hasn’t disappointed me. It’s got three attacking moves with phenomenal coverage, missing out on Dragons. It’s been my crutch against Drizzle teams, proving Hydro Pump doesn’t miss. Pain Split works well with Rotom’s low HP. I shouldn’t have to explain much, it is the standard set for many reasons.
Forretress (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 176 Def / 80 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Toxic Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Volt Switch
At first, I had Ferrothorn in this slot. But after many battles, I decided that I needed a spinner, and because Forretress seemed like the best one, Ferrothorn had to go. Toxic Spikes and Stealth Rock are Forretress’ way of supporting the team, and Rotom-W, Scizor and Hydreigon all love the extra damage that comes from them. Rapid Spin was the whole reason I put Forretress on the team, because it was a slow, painful loss to stall without. Volt Switch allows Forretress to get out from being trapped, but it hasn’t been of much use.
With Volt Switch not having much use, should I replace it with Gyro Ball and give it a Shed Shell instead?
Jellicent (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Scald
-Recover
-Taunt
The team ends with Jellicent. It worked well with Ferrothorn, and it continues to work well with Forretress. It’s my spinblocker, and also supports the team by inflicting burns (though WoW’s 75% accuracy has frustrated me many times). Scald is its main form of offense, and that 30% burn chance really helps out my team (again, because WoW has been very unreliable). Recover should be rather obvious for a defensive Pokemon. Taunt stops the slower Pokemon that would otherwise do mean things to Jellicent, like Poison and Burn.
Jellicent shares its Water-type with Rotom, and I’m not sure if that’s a bad thing or not.
Offensive Threats:
Aerodactyl –I’ve only seen them in the lead spot, so Thundurus has handled them well.
Archeops – Scizor.
Azelf – I’ve only seen them in the lead spot, and Thundurus handles them well.
Bisharp –Scizor.
Breloom –No idea. I’ve never encountered one.
Chandelure – Hydreigon and Rotom do well against this candle.
Cobalion –Never encountered one.
Conkeldurr – I’ve got nothing to take him on.
Darmanitan – Hydreigon, Rotom, Jellicent
Deoxys-S –Since its only in the lead spot, Thundurus shuts it down with Taunt.
Dragonite –Hydreigon is faster than it, and if its hit by Rocks, it goes down pretty quickly.
Eelektross – Never encountered one.
Electivire – Never encountered one.
Empoleon – Scizor, Rotom
Espeon –Scizor, Hydreigon
Excadrill – Rotom
Garchomp –Banned!
Gengar – Hydreigon. But if it has Focus Blast, I’m screwed.
Golurk –Never encountered one.
Gyarados – Thundurus, Rotom
Haxorus –If its faster than Hydreigon, game over.
Heatran – Rotom
Heracross – Never encountered one.
Hydreigon –Thundurus. Surprisingly, I’ve never encountered one.
Infernape – Jellicent, Rotom
Jirachi –Hydreigon, Rotom
Jolteon –Never encountered one.
Kingdra -Hydreigon
Kyurem –Never encountered one
Landorus –Thundurus, Rotom
Latios - Scizor
Lilligant –Never encountered one
Lucario –Never encountered one. Probably screwed if I do.
Machamp – Jellicent slowly kills it.
Magnezone – Hydreigon
Mamoswine – Scizor, Rotom
Metagross - Rotom
Mienshao –Smart switching using Jellicent
Reuniclus –Scizor. If its gone, I’m done.
Roserade – Scizor
Salamence – Scizor
Sawsbuck –Scizor
Scizor – Hydreigon, Rotom
Scrafty- Scizor, Rotom
Seismitoad –Nothing, but never encountered one.
Serperior – Never encountered one.
Shaymin -Scizor
Sigilyph –Scizor, Hydreigon
Starmie –Nothing.
Terakion –Scizor, Rotom
Thundurus – Nothing, other than my own.
Togekiss – Thundurus, Rotom
Tornadus – Never encountered one.
Tyranitar – Rotom, Scizor
Venusaur –Scizor, Hydreigon
Victini – Never encountered one.
Virizion – Never encountered one.
Volcarona –I’ve got nothing.
Weavile – Never encountered one.
Zoroark – It’s pretty obvious when Zoroark comes out, so its mostly just playing smart.
Defensive Threats:
Alomomola – Never encountered one.
Blissey – Scizor, Hydreigon
Bronzong – Scizor, Hydreigon
Celebi –Scizor, unless it packs HP Fire.
Chansey – See Blissey.
Deoxys-D – Never encountered one
Cofagrigus -Hydreigon
Dusclops – Never encountered one.
Ferrothorn –Scizor, Hydreigon
Forretress - Hydreigon
Gliscor – Thundurus, Rotom, Hydreigon
Hippowdon –Thundurus, Rotom, Hydreigon
Jellicent -Hydreigon
Latias –Hydreigon, Scior
Mandibuzz – Never encountered one
Murkrow – Never encountered one.
Ninetales – I can’t do much to it with the sun it sets up.
Politoed – Thundurus, Rotom.
Porygon2 –Never encountered one.
Rotom-H –Rotom, Hydreigon
Rotom-W – Rotom, not much beyond that.
Skarmory - Hydreigon
Snorlax - Scizor
Suicune - Rotom
Swampert - Nothing
Tentacruel - Rotom
Vaporeon - Rotom
Whimsicott – Hydreigon, Scizor
Xatu - Scizor
Zapdos - Thunderus
