Hey guys, so this will be my first time posting here as well as making a competitive team. However, I've been playing Pokemon sense Gen 1. I wanted to go for a balanced team that hits hard, but can still take a punch or two itself. I've tested this team out a few times in both console and PS, but I feel that it's still lacking in some areas. So without further ado...
Gyarados (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Nature: Adamant
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
Starting of my list is Gyarados. I really like the idea behind Moxie and when I first started making my list I wanted a Moxie Team (never doing that again). However despite previous downfalls, Gyarados stood out the most in being able to single-handedly sweep teams a few times while taking little to no damage. He helps out against Dragons, Electrics, Fire, Steel, etc.
Krookodile (F) @ Persim Berry
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spe
Nature: Adamant
- Earthquake
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Outrage
Though it sees less stardom than Moxie Gyarados. I can usually rely on Moxie Krookodile when an electric attack is aimed at Gyarados, and then she can just carry on the baton from there and try for a sweep as well. It also helps that her typing works for me in Sandstorms and Outrage is a nice surprise that most don't expect (I just have to watch that there are no Fairy's about).
Raikou @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Extrasensory
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Originally it was Jolteon, but I found Raikou to be more reliable with it's higher HP, Defenses, and even a better base Special Attack. Extrasensory has also helped a few times, but seldom do I really use Raikou other than too take out Bulky Water types and a few Fighting Pokemon that could potentially wall me.
Ferrothorn (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Nature: Impish
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
I was hesitant to put a defensive pokemon on my team, and a slow one at that, but after seeing what Ferrothorn is capable of I have never regretted it. I usually put him in the Lead position. It's so bulky that it takes forever to take it down (so long as it avoids fire and beefed up fighting moves). And with Rocky Helmet on as well, physical attackers are wary to hit it again. Sometimes it even manages to restore whatever damage was done to it thanks to the many resistances it has.
Togekiss (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 248 HP / 216 SpD / 44 Spe
Nature: Calm
- Air Slash
- Roost
- Thunder Wave
- Nasty Plot
Well if Ferrothorn is my Physical Wall then Togekiss is my Special one...and special it is. Not only can it take hits really well, even super effective ones, but with the Serene Grace + Thunder Wave + Air Slash combo, few things can stand against it. Even less so when it's powered up through Nasty Plot. It's been lucky enough to KO a few pokemon (including a Blissey), but I'm debating whether to give up Thunder Wave for Heal Bell since Togekiss gets the must status ailments out of all my pokemon.
Infernape (M) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Nature: Jolly
- Flare Blitz
- Close Combat
- ThunderPunch
- Mach Punch
I wasn't really sure what to put in my last slot, but after seeing a few Smeargle running around among other things. I realized I needed something to take them out quickly. So I settled on Infernape who will usually take the place of my Lead if I see my opponent has a Talonflame or Smeargle, which 9/10 they will lead with if they see I have Ferrothorn. So usually Infernape gets stuck as nothing more than an intimidation factor for them to switch out.
