My first crack at UU

ss234

bop.
Hello people of UU! I only recently got into the tier, but am finding it immensely fun! It's so much less weather dominated than OU as well, which is a big plus.

So here's the team:

Darmanitan-4hp, 252att, 252spe-Jolly/Adamant
Choice Scarf-Sheer Force

Flare Blitz
U-turn
Earthquake
Stone Edge

Darmy is an incredibly powerful mon, and is always my lead. With his immense coverage he does considerable damage to everything, and really keeps up the offensive momentum. He almost always gets me off to a good start in the match, normally netting an easy kill against something. Flare Blitz is just an incredibly powerful move, and provides immense wallbreaking power. U-turn is arguably the most important move though, and with such a big attack stat hits hard sometimes as well. The EdgeQuake combo is crucial against Chandelure and the like who can take a Flare Blitz.

Bisharp-160hp, 252att, 96spe-Adamant
Leftovers-Defiant

Swords Dance
Substitute
Sucker Punch
Iron Head

Originally, Bisharp was something of an afterthough to the team, but has become one of the most valuable players. His incredible power after a SD is incredible, especially when combined with Sucker Punch. This guy has singlehandedly won entire games by himself with his incredible strength and priority. Substitute is a great move on Bisharp, protecting him form burns, as well as stopping status effects. Iron Head provides a way to hit the ghost type's like Dusclops who may use pain split and is generally a very strong move. Although this guy may lack some coverage, the sheer power of Sucker Punch and to an extent Iron Head as well as a great defensive typing more than makes up for it.

Zapdos-4hp, 252sp.att, 252spe-Timid/Modest
Life Orb-Pressure

Roost
Hidden Power(Ice)
Heat Wave
Thunderbolt

Offensive Zapdos is a true monster. With Heat Wave, TBolt and HP Ice, this guy hits everything in the metegame for big damage. Thanks to Roost, he can heal himself to cause even more big damage, and thanks to that great defensive typing he can Roost in the face of a lot of mons.

Zapdos' role on the team is generally to wreck as much havoc as possible. He normally dishes out a lot of pain, and is a crucial member of the team with his fighting resistance. He is very capable of smashing through Xatu as well, who would otherwise cause problems for the rest of the team.

Hitmontop-252hp, 252def, 4sp.def-Impish
Leftovers-Intimidate

Close Combat
Foresight
Rapid Spin
Stone Edge

Both Zapdos and Darmy sorely need a spinner, and it was a choice between Hitmontop and Blastoise. I decided on Hitmontop since I already had a bulky water, and getting Rapid Spin in was crucial. Fighting types are always useful too, and Close Combat does alot of damage to some pokemon. Foresight was chosen due to the fact that I needed my spin to go off well, but I haven't actually got into a situation where Toxic wouldn't have been better. Hitmontop himslef hasn't been that valuable, but then I haven't actually gone up against a team that used SR. Stone Edge would help to give almost perfect coverage on everything but Heracross and Nidoking and Nidoqueen in the tier, which is great.

Swampert-240hp, 252att, 16def-Adamant
Leftovers-Torrent

Waterfall
Earthquake
Roar
Stealth Rock

Swampert has always been one of my favourite Pokemon, and is just brilliant in UU as a tank. This is the normal Swampert frankly, but packs a proper punch. Earthquake is a very powerful move factoring in STAB and max attack-same with Waterfall. Stealth Rock is still a great move in the metagame, and thanks to his great bulk Swampy can almost always set it up. Roar is a crucial move for phazing people out, and racks up hazards damage. This guy is a great defensive pivot-it's such a shame that Ferrothorn had been created, otherwise he'd still be up there in OU.

Roserade-252hp, 40def, 212sp.def-Calm
Black Sludge-Natural Cure
407.gif

Giga Drain
Spikes
Sludge Bomb
Rest

Roserade is the Queen of UU and for good reason. Spikes is a great move in the metagame as you all know, and Roserade's ability to set them up is unmatched. Rest provides a reliable source of recovery thanks to Natural Cure, which really helps when dealing with bulky water types. Giga Drain is the move to use against water types who can be a nuisance to Darmy and Bisharp, as well as Swampy to an extent. Sludge Bomb however is just as good, since it does big damage to Xatu who enjoys to switch in on Roserade a lot.

Well that's the team. I hope that you enjoyed reading it, and that you can help me improve it.

There's no apparent flaws anywhere, it just looks like a standard team. My only thought is your Roserade- you're trying to give it survivability when it has one attack move and is walled by a whole lot of stuff. The better Roserade set and one you'll find much more useful is a focus sash with Toxic Spikes, Sleep Powder, Leaf Storm, something else (doesn't truly matter, can be Rest if you want or possibly HP Ice). Sleep support is something that any good team can use, toxic spikes are much more crippling than spikes, especially after you take care of any opposing Roserade/Nidoking/Nidoqueen-s that may show up.

You also lack a spinblocker and something that can hit fighting types. Substitute Machamp is an automatic win for anyone who brings it, as it hits two for super effective and everything else for neutral with the standard Stone Edge coverage. Maybe bring a bulky ghost with you, Dusclops being the prime example.

Otherwise, it looks fine. Just test it and see what you can't beat.

Yeah I've been having a bit of trouble with Machamp. I don't really want to try out Dusclops since he ruins the offensive nature of the team. Maybe trying out Mew or Azelf could work since they take him out with their high powered moves. Alternately, I could use Xatu with screens, then make it a HO team. Any suggestions?

Xatu with screens is nice because it's a sleep absorber and can switch into Roserade. Azelf and Mew have enough drawbacks that they wouldn't really help.

Okay so if I run Xatu who should I run him over? Hitmontop doesn't seem to be doing a lot, and then instead of using Roserade I could run Seed Flare Shaymin. Not sure what to do about Swampert-maybe Heracross/Machamp since they are good status absorbers and are generally very good at wallbreaking for Bisharp or Darmanitan to sweep.
