My First Gen VI Team

Hello there guys, this is my first Gen VI Zard Y team. Thanks to some mentors for help, so here it goes:

Garchomp (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Fire Blast
My hazard setter, I think it's a pretty good choice for stealth rock setting pokemon. I put earthquake for damage, and dragon claw as well. Fire blast for some coverage. I also browsed some info in the net and most say that garchomp is a good partner for zard y. I also had a lot of success using him as my first pokemon in the line, I was able to knock out 2 pokemon at least with earthquake during the early stages of battle.

Charizard (M) @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Dragon Pulse
- Fire Blast
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast
I've been using Charizard as a special attacker for years, so I picked the y mega evo version for him. Solar beam for coverage and to counter water types as well as rock type, dragon pulse incase some dragon pokemon came out to knock him down, I sometimes kill zard x with this skill. Focus blast for damage support. Fire blast for stab and drought damage, this skill sometimes can one hit ko every pokemon my opponent sends out. I chose Y over the X because I think it suits my style in battling more too. That drought skill gives me a lot of damage. I won consecutive battles using my zard y because of a lot of damage it can give to opponents.

Starmie @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
- Psyshock
- Hydro Pump
I picked starmie as my spinner first is because it's water type a good support for zard, and it's my favorite water/psychic pokemon as well. I don't know if psyshock is a good skill choice, I was thinking of an electric skill for coverage. Hydro pump for stab damage. Ice beam to knock down dragon types. Starmie saves me from losing battles a lot of times.

Salamence (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SAtk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Blast
- Outrage
In case my zard y got knocked down, salamence will be my other sweeper. This pokemon really is a life saver for me in some of my battles. It really can pack a lot of damage with outrage and earthquake. Earthquake got some decent damage and is a life saver, as well as fire blast. Dragon claw and Outrage for dragon type pokemon. I don't know if choice scarf suits salamence really well so please help me with this.

Greninja (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Protean
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Hasty Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Dark Pulse
- U-turn
- Ice Beam
I was thinking whether I will use greninja or not, but I think him being a water and dark type pokemon will help support charizard. Hydro Pump for rock and ground type pokemon. I also use greninja to knock down those sr setters before I summon zard y. Ice beam for grass and dragon types. Dark pulse to counter psychic which is common in battles.

Aegislash (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature
- King's Shield
- Sacred Sword
- Shadow Sneak
- Swords Dance
Aegislash will also make good support to my charizard. I find him really useful late game when my foes started using some normal types like chansey and snorlax (but I sometimes got knocked out by EQ) This pokemon also saved me a lot of time during battles, he is my last resort in battles.

What do you think of my team? What needs to be changed? I'm new to battling and my last game was Gen III Pokemon Emerald. I hope I do fine with my team build up :D

Since you're intent on using Mega Charizard - Y, you might want to consider to make the most out of Drought by including:

Venusaur @ Life Orb / Black Sludge (up to you)
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 42 HP / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
Nature: Modest
- Growth
- Sludge Bomb/Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power Fire/ Earthquake

Growth in Sunlight transforms Venusaur in an amazing mixed sweeper. With key resistances to water, electric, fighting and fairy, as well as being immune to powder moves, Venusaur has ample situations to switch in and setup. Giga Drain will be your main STAB move that will hit most mons for a big chunk of their HP, all the while healing Venusaur back and mitigating the Life Orb damage (if you choose to run Life orb). The choice between Sludge bomb and Sleep Powder is yours; Sludge bomb will 2HKO Fairy types like Sylveon, Togekiss and Florges while OHKOing Azumarill without any boosts (so pretty much any fairy type bar Klefki gets OHKO'd by Sludge Bomb at +2) while Sleep Powder will cripple one of your opponent's pokemon and let you setup with ease. Again, the choice between Hidden Power Fire and Earthquake depends on your preferences: Hidden Power Fire is an alternative Pseudo STAB option in the sun, and lets Venusaur OHKO the likes of Scizor and Ferrothorn, and deal a lot of damage to Aegislash. Earthquake instead makes sure Venusaur isn't completely walled by Heatran, and lets it comfortably OHKO Heatran and 2HKO Steel types like Aegislash and Klefki.
The downside of using Venusaur however is that your team would have even more difficulties in dealing with Talonflame, and Talonflame is a pretty common pokemon in OU.

To conclude, Venusaur would be a great option for your team, as it alleviates your team's weakness to fairy types as well as providing electric resistance and a way to get around Sleep Powder and Spore, all the while being a great offensive powerhouse in the sun.

Thanks, yeah dealing with Sylveon and other fairy types is a problem at the moment for me, who do you think I'll take out in the team for Venusaur?

You could take out Greninja, since you don't exactly need to "use greninja to knock down those sr setters before I summon zard y" as you have Starmie as a spinner. Psyshock helps Starmie getting rid of Gengar, a pretty common spinblocker, and ice beam to get rid of Gourgeist and Trevenant, other common ghost types in OU.
So yeah, you could get rid of Greninja.
