my first NU team

steelix.gif

Skreellix (Steelix) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Atk
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 SAtk / 0 Spd
- Earthquake
- Gyro Ball
- Stealth Rock
- Roar

The ultimate physical wall. Totally underrated. Steelix can switch in to and wall almost any physical attacker in NU, taking NVE hits like nothing and swallow up more than a couple of SE hits. It makes a good lead to set up Stealth Rocks while not being OHKO'd, and as long as it's healthy it phazes with Roar. Earthquake and Gyro Ball are good STABs to use against faster and weakened Pokemon.

glaceon.gif

Queen Elsa (Glaceon) (F) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spd
Modest Nature
IVs: 30 SAtk / 30 SDef / 0 Atk
- Ice Beam / Frost Breath
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- Mirror Coat

My most favorite Pokemon in NU as well as the most powerful Ice type (not that skank Jynx). Glaceon can take hits and hit back harder. EV's are in HP and SAtk to increase bulk and power and Assault Vest to further her bulk. Ice Beam is the main attack but Frost Breath can help take out Cosmic Power Sigilyph. Shadow Ball and HP Ground are necessary coverage moves. Mirror Coat works with Assault Vest to potentially OHKO special attackers like Magmortar.

feraligatr.gif

Fuglygatrrr (Feraligatr) (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
IVs: 0 SAtk
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Earthquake

A dragon dancing water sweeper. This thing can hurt almost anything not named Mantine. Torrent is a good ability that allows Gatr hit even harder. Aqua Jet is good priority move. Lum Berry is to deal with burns, paralysis, and Vivivlion's Sleep Powder.

dragalge.gif

Britney S. (Dragalge) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Poison Point
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Def
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Toxic
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Bomb
- Focus Miss

A decent gen 6 Pokemon that is specially bulky and has a nice movepool. Like Glaceon, it is a special attacker. Poison Point, Toxic (has perfect accuracy), and Sludge Bomb are sure to poison just about anything that dares to stall against this thing. Two STABs and Focus Miss provide great coverage and power. I can't think of any hard counters to this dragon.

virizion.gif

Verizon (Virizion) @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
IVs: 0 SAtk
- Leaf Blade
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Swords Dance

An overlooked legendary Pokemon with great potential. It's a fast Swords Dance user that hits hard with its STABs and Stone Edge is for would-be counters. I have tried other movesets with Bounce and Zen Headbutt. By far this is the most ideal moveset and the set Smogon recommends.

durant.gif

OPant (Durant) (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Hustle
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Jolly Nature
IVs: 0 SAtk
- Hone Claws
- Iron Head
- X-Scissor
- Crunch

An extremely powerful physical sweeper that probably should not be allowed in NU. The tricky part is whether Durant can afford a turn to use Hone Claws or attack right away with the risk of missing due to Hustle. Iron Head and X-Scissor are its STABs and Crunch provides coverage mainly for Doublade. Almost nothing can safely switch into this monster as it has caused rage quits in the lower ladder.

I am aware of some issues with this team such as the inability to remove entry hazards and being torn apart by fire attacks and pesky scarfed Pokemon. If anyone has suggestions for replacements I will take them into consideration.

Hi, this is an interesting team, but it is completely decimated by strong Fighting Types, as they easily push pass dragalge and decimate your team. On top of this, a team with four fire weak pokemon loses to any fire spam team, even with two sub-par resists. Frankly, the team lacks any form of defensive or offensive synergy, and has issues dealing with common threats, and is unable to revenge kill many common sweepers.

I'm going to reccomend you run Scarf Jynx over Glaceon. It at least helps you revenge kill powerful fighting types like Sawk, and reliably revenge kills all relavant setup sweepers, being immune to the Aqua Jets of Samurott, Carracosta, and Feraligatr, while being able to outspeed most sweepers in the first place. It also has access to Trick to decimate walls.

The next thing I would do is to run Tank Golem over Steelix. It can help you still check flying types, but it acts as another fire resist to balance the team out, and offers a powerful sucker punch to revenge kill threats. It also loses much less momentum for the team, which is key.

Minor Changes:
Feraligatr: Return or Crunch > Earthquake, as you are currently completely walled by grass types, and Return offers the best possible coverage to hit both Grass and Water types.
Dragalge: Scald or Hydro Pump > Focus Blast to help with more reliably beating random stuff like ground types, while offering far better coverage.

- Psychic
- Ice Beam

- Trick

Golem @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy

Adamant Nature

I will try these changes you've recommended but I am not convinced to remove Steelix. Steelix really can take out Sawk weakened by Close Combat and he's the only Pokemon I know that can wall Durant.

you're using a 252 hp / 252 def steelix which is excessive anyway since steelix needs the power more than it needs defense. with your spread, it can't even OHKO -1 sawk with gyro ball and takes 70-83% from jolly sawk, which means that you automatically lose your most important check to most other physical threats that are paired with sawk anyway

aside from the lack of fighting-type checks, doublade has the potential to chip a lot of damage on your team and probably has a chance to clean late-game. i think you already have enough setup pokemon on your team and would be much better off supporting them while handling pokemon you have trouble with. try qwilfish with scald over feraligatr. it gives you a soft fighting-type and doublade check and can support your team with spikes and either paralysis or taunt. qwilfish also checks opposing durant, so you can try replacing steelix with rhydon if you want, since it's stronger and is helpful with rock blast

i would also try toxic spikes over toxic on dragalge to further support your offensive pokemon. a water-type move is also better than focus blast since it's your best option against steel-types

Would you post my team with those suggested changes? Why would I use both Qwilfish and Dragalge? Toxic over Toxic Spikes on Drag because I was being stalled by a Pelipper one time 1 on 1 and Toxic enabled me to win the match. I am hesitant over the idea of using a Pokemon incredibly weak to water and grass too. I would rather get rid or Durant instead of Steelix because the latter has served me incredibly well even if the EV spread does not provide enough attack power.

because they cover different threats? i mentioned what qwilfish does already. the major weaknesses they stack are covered by your other teammates (rhydon handles cm sigilyph better than steelix), and you already have ways to cover water- and grass-types through a combination of dragalge, virizion, and durant. if you're scared of shell smash, you're running thunder wave or taunt with at least 96 spe for timid omastar on qwilfish. you already have checks to all special variants of shell smash users, and qwilfish just gives you an extra check against the physical ones—carracosta and barbaracle
