Hi guys,
I start building my team with Tentacruel, one of my favourite pokemon ever. He has the access to Rapid Spin, removing hazards it is a must in the metagame, and absorbs the toxic spikes too.
Celebi covers well Tentacruel's weakness. I choose for an offensive set and it works, but I am not so sure of him... Maybe it is only I should play Celebi better.
Heatran concludes the water-grass-fire core. He is a fantastic pokemon and the balloon makes him a perfect mate to Tentacruel in the first turns of the match.
Lacking of Roar or Whirlwind, I was weak to the many setuppers around and one bastard in particular, Mega-Sableye. So I choose worst nightmare of that little devil, a Clefable.
Till now, only special attackers so I fill my last two slots with two strong physical pokemons. First was the Mega and I choose Gallade. No special reason, I never used him and I want to try.
The second one was a reveng killer, also nice for checking thanks to U-turn and to reduce opponent's attack. Landorus-T is my last slot.

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 224 HP / 252 Def / 32 Spe
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Acid Spray
- Rapid Spin
- Knock Off
Smogon's standard set. Rapid Spin makes him the hazard controller of the team. Knock Off is always nice and hits the Gengars opponent switches in to avoid Rapid Spin. Scald for burning the attackers, and water stab, Acid Spray is a fantastic move against Calm Mind Clefable and other setuppers. Speed Evs to outspeed Adamant Bisharp trying to burn him, other Evs are standard. Liquid Ooze because, f**k Venusaur.
Celebi @ Life Orb
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Recover
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Psychic
Offensive set for Celebi. Life Orb and Modest nature gives Celebi nice power to hit. Leaf Storm would hit a lot harder than Giga Drain, I am not sure which is better to choose. Psychic deals with Venusaur and the Fight type. HP Fire destroys Ferrothorn and Scizor, they never switch when Celebi is in front of them. I'm totally walled by Heatran, I should choose Earth Power to deal with him but Celebi's movepool is very huge and some decisions have to be done.
Heatran @ Air Balloon
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 192 SpD / 68 Spe
Calm Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Lava Plume
- Taunt
Special defensive wall and rocks setter. Taunt + 68 Spe Evs + Balloon bores other Heatran and forces the switch. Lava Plume for stab and 30% of burning is very nice against the Azumarill often enters after the switch of the taunted pokemon. Toxic is always useful. The Evs let Heatran can Taunt Venusaur too. Sometimes I miss Protect to check opponent's move.
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Moonblast
- Heal Bell
- Thunder Wave
- Fire Blast
Unaware Clefable deals with one of the most used mega right now, Mega Sableye. The combination of Unaware and Moonblast totally destroys him. He also is the status-cleric of my team and, due to his bulkness it is easy to let the bell rings. Thunder Wave threats faster sweepers and Fire Blast often kills Scizor that dances thinking about my switch. He also threats the many Latios around easily.
Gallade (M) @ Galladite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Skill Swap
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch
- Zen Headbutt
Standard Evs and Jolly nature to outspeed the most possible. Gallade often enters on Knock Off boosting his wonderful attack stat thanks to the Justified ability. Close Combat is the must stab, always does a lot of damage to all, Zen Headbutt as other stab and Ice punch for team coverage and because my whole team lacks of ice attacks. Skill Swap is fantastic but hard to use. Sometimes I have predicted well and swapped my ability with Azumarill or Gliscor equipped with the Toxic orb. I like this move also to not use only standard strategies.
Landorus-Therian (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Explosion
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn
Scarf Lando is a beast. U-turn does a lot of damages and works perfectly with Intimidate. It is useful to check and takes the momentum too. Earthquake does big damages to all and Stone Edge is natural coverage. Last slot is filled with Explosion... Because... BOOOOOOM! Cool... and not so expected. Lando is my revenge killer and often he can sweep two-three pokemons in a row in the last turns of the match, if rocks are up too.
- Conclusion -
It is the first time I write on this forum, until now I had only read it. I play Showdown and Pokemon from X/Y. With the past metagame I reached around 1700 points on the ladder thanks to a fantastic Sun-team that worked perfectly; now, with the arrival of the fairy-type and the sun goes away, that team has become rubbish and I do not find a new way to climb the ladder again... I surf usually around 1400 now. Ok, let's see my team... Kill me only as Smogon can do, I'm here to learn.
