XY OU My First OU Team

So here it is. Let me know what you think. I've had some success with it so far on showdown. 3-1 in four games, so not bad.

Greninja @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- U-turn
- Ice Beam
- Scald
- Dark Pulse

Here's the center of my team. Greninja is a total beast with protean, I think we all know that by now. U-turn is an easy escape route. Ice beam takes care of those powerful dragons and pesky grass types. I prefer scald over surf because it's only 10 points weaker but gives me a solid shot at burning. Dark pulse is great because it can flinch the opposing 'mon.

Mamoswine @ Focus Sash
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Endeavor
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake

Mamoswine is my lead. I absolutely love this set. Set up the rocks real fast and then get down to the sash. If I can out speed, because there's a solid chance I can with all the speed I have invested, then I can use endeavor or earthquake. If not, ice shard is great STAB. Not a bad way to start off the game.

Mega_Alakazam.png

Alakazam-Mega @ Alakazite
Ability: Trace
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Dazzling Gleam
- Shadow Ball

Here's my mega...and man do I love Mega Alakazam. He is literally the jack of all trades. Psyshock is such an underrated move, focus blast isn't always reliable but is awesome power, dazzling gleam is great coverage and shadow ball takes care of some weaknesses. Just pure power and speed...but don't forget that Zam can take a few shots!

Emboar @ Leftovers
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Flare Blitz
- Head Smash
- Superpower

Here's my pride and joy: Emboar. I LOVE Emboar. Sucker punch makes him such a decent Pokemon! Sucker Punch surprises so many users that sometimes I can get away with using it twice in the same game. Flare Blitz is awesome power, head smash gives great coverage and Superpower is one of the best moves in the game.

images

Talonflame @ Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Quick Attack
- U-turn

Typical set here for Talonflame. He's my late game sweep. Gale Wings is seriously one of the best abilities. I really have nothing to say here. I think we all know T-Flame's power by now!

Vileplume (F) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Effect Spore
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 SpD
Bold Nature
- Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Aromatherapy

SHe's not OU but man can she hang! Sleep powder is great, giga drain helps me regain health and sludge bomb destroys any fairies in it's way. As for aromatherapy, well that's such a nice tool to have on the team. Not to mention, she can take a few hits. Not a bad Pokemon, one of my ole time favorites.

Hey SwampBlast! It looks like you have a great starting point to work up from in this meta.

I think one thing you will notice as you become more experienced in OU is that using certain mons strictly because you like them will not work out. It is probably the most competitive tier to play in and you must use what is necessary to win. With that being said, I just want to give you a few suggestions to give you a better starting point.

There is absolutely no reason to run a Serious nature mon, so I'm assuming you messed up in the teambuilder with your Zam. I would suggest running Timid.

Quick Attack is pointless on Talonflame. It's ability, Gale Wings, gives it's STAB Brave Bird the same priority as Quick Attack. Under no circumstances would Quick Attack ever do more than a Brave Bird on any Pokémon (including the likes of things that x4 resist Brave Bird). I would suggest running Tailwind, Will-O-Wisp, or even Roost in QA's slot. Also, Talonflame doesn't need to run max speed considering it will rely on it's priority move the most. You can feel free to run Adamant for the much needed added power. HP investment is also something you may want to consider to maximize the amount of times you can withstand recoil damage.

As for Vileplume and Emboar, they really aren't the most viable in the tier as they are outclassed by many other things. This goes back to what I said about using Pokémon because you like them. I am in no way saying you shouldn't try to be creative or experimental, but just be aware that there are better options.

For you, the best thing to do is keep playing. The more experience you have, the easier things will become. You will know what threats to look out for and build around, you will better understand what each mon does, you will know how to incorporate synergy in your team building, etc.. I wish you the best of luck in this tier. Enjoy yourself. :]

Thank you for the advice!

And yes, it's a timid Zam! I must have messed it up in team builder because that's where I copied and pasted this from. (And that definitely explains some Pokes were out speeding it...haha)

I'll definitely take all of your recommendations into consideration!
