Hey was up guys!
Im new to Smogon and this is my first rate my team post. However I have been playing pokemon and competitive battling for a long time now, been playing on forum community site friendcodes for a while, played against many skilled battlers over wifi, joined some clans, even created a clan known as The F.E.A.R Clan which got to no.1 on friendcodes, blah blah blah enough about me lets get right to it!
Its all about the new fifth generation metagame, the new generation has brought us many new abilities, pokemon and strategies. Weather teams have shined in this new generation, offensive teams are growing popular and stalls teams are stronger than ever, this generation is set to be very promising!
Anyways to the team, i made this team for the OU Wifi tier to compete with the ladder on the pokemon online server, it has been quite good in that its got me a rating of 1237 however i have been loosing a few battles and i starting to think the team is reaching its peak, i trying to find ways to improve the team but i'm stuck at the moment on which members to replace so i really appreciate the criticism and some suggestions to improve my team.
A closer look:
Cloyster
Nature: Naive
item: Choice Scarf
Ability: Skill link
EVs: 4HP/252ATK/252SPD
Moves:
Icicle Spear
Rock Blast
Hydro Pump
Explosion
This spiky seashell has become my new favourite gen V lead, i love it! So many people never see this coming, i've even swept a couple of teams with this and even cause some rage quits because of the unpredicted choice scarf :). It handles most leads in the metagame bar steel type leads such as Bronzong, skarmory and Nattorei. Either way it stops frail and sash leads dead in their tracks, most people always expect shell smash and never see the choice scarf coming then BOOM thats when he shines and either breaks the opponent's sash with his icicle spear or rock blast. Stab Icicle spear hits roserade and flying leads, and breaks frail lead sashes. Rock blast hits leads such as infernape, (drought) ninetales and frolass, hydro pump with a naive nature still hits hard with stab to physical walls and explosion is just a filler as a last resort kamikaze.
Natorrei
Nature: Sassy
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
Evs: 252HP/96DEF/160SDEF
Moves:
Stealth Rock/Spikes
Power Whip
Thunder Wave/Protect
Leech Seed.
Gen V has brought us Nattorei, sure its a thorny pokemon but its an excellent wall. With good defenses Nattorei and can a take a hit and set up rocks or spikes, with its grass and steel typing it has no problem coming in on water and electric attacks. Evs and nature to give it the best defenses possible to take hits. Power whip is stab, leech seed to take some health from the opponent, thunderwave to stop revenge killers and faster pokemon though im thinking of using protect for better recover with leftovers and leech seed.
Rotom (W)
Nature: Modest
Item: Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
Evs: 252HP/252SPATK/4SPD
Moves:
Thunderbolt
Hydro Pump
Hidden Power (Ice)
Volt Change
Rotom may of lost his ghost type in gen v but becoming an attacking force surely makes up for it. With a modest nature and choice specs this pokemon hits HARD with its STAB hydro pump and thunderbolt. Specs Hydro pump dents physical walls and hidden power ice rounds off the classic bolt beam combo. Volt change is a good move to scouting and allowing me to send the a pokemon in to take on the pokemon rotom cant handle. Its typing with only one weakness resisitance ice, water, fire and electric attacks and also the ability levitate i can safely switch in rotom when needed.
Garchomp
Nature: Jolly
Item: Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Veil
Evs: 4HP/252ATK/252SPD
Moves:
Outrage
Earthquake
Dragon Claw
Fire Blast
Good old garchomp is back in this gen and still proves to be a strong force. It is here as my revenge killer to pick of pokes once they are damaged by rocks. Moves are pretty straight forward, outrage is a strong STAB which hits hard, earthquake another STAB attack to hit fire and electric types, dragon claw so i dont get lock onto outrage all the time and fire blast hits steels such as nattorei.
Venomoth
Nature: Timid
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Tinted lens
Evs: 4HP/252SPATK/252SPD
Moves:
Butterfly Dance
Bug Buzz
Hidden Power(Fire)
Sludge Bomb
This section has been the most changeable, im open to any suggestion to what to put in this slot but at the moment venomoth is just a filler. It takes quite some damage if rocks are on the field but when it gets the chance to set up it can sweep. Switch it on a resisted move and butterfly dance, butterfly dance is a great move in that it boost venomoth's special attack, sp defence and speed in one turn, bug buzz and sludge bomb are STAB attacks which with ability tinten lens and life orb plus special attack boost does hit pretty hard, even pokemon who resist it. Hidden power fire is there to hit steels, as i said it does its job to sweep when i get the chance but its mainly just a filler, im looking to replace this.
Roobushin
Nature: Adamant
Item: Leftovers
Ability: Guts
Evs: 120HP/252ATK/136SPDEF
Moves:
Bulk Up
Drain Punch
Mach Punch
Payback/Stone Edge
The star of the show and MVP, move aside machamp, roobushin is the new boy in town. This pack of muscle when fully utilised can cause havoc to teams, its become my sandstorm counter to pokemon such as ttar and the sand sweep king doryuzuu. Once the main threats are gone, roobushin is ready to clean up and sweep. The evs provide the bulk to take hits from special attacks but im looking for a more bulkier set so if guys know any please let me know :). Anyways bulk up to boost up attack and defence, drain punch for STAB and to gain health back along with recovery of leftovers, mach punch to hit faster pokemon and to clean up pokemon with low health, payback to hit ghost. I may switch payback to stone edge to hit gyarados but payback has proven useful.
The star of the team and MVP.
Yep there you go guys that's my team, it has been reasonably successful on PO with a rating of 1237 on wifi but since then i have lost a few matches and my ratings going down so im looking for areas to improve on this team. I'm new to the whole rate my team thing so by all means criticisms are welcome, i'd much appreciate it :).
