XY RU My first real competitive team

Hi guys. I was looking at tier listings trying to find a tier I could do well in, and use poemon I liked, and found that in RU. I've tried this team out a few times on PS, and it worked pretty well until I encountered a Mega Banette lead.

Bronzong@ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252Def/252SpDef/4HP
Nature: Impish
Stealth Rock
Light Screen
Reflect
Explosion

The standard Bronzong set. I use stealth rock for obvious reasons, and Reflect and Light Screen to help protect my other pokemon. It makes setting up easier, and allows me to take a few more hits before going down. I maxed out both defense stats because Bronzong's defenses are better than hp, and I personally like raising defense instead of hp on defensive pokemon. This is my designated lead, although I'm complete taunt bait. I thought about maybe an offensive move that doesn't kill me, but that's why I'm asking you guys.

Drapion@ Razor Claw
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 252Att/252Spe/4Hp
Nature: Adamant
Toxic Spikes
Cross Poison
Night Slash
Aqua Tail

Drapion usually comes in after Bronzong to set up toxic spikes. Adamant is for extra attack power, although I thought about jolly too. Sniper boosts the power of crits, and razor claw increases the odds. For that reason, I run Cross Poison and Night Slash instead of Poison Jab and Crunch. They have less base power, but thanks to the increased crit rate with my ability and item, I think they're worth it. Aqua Tail is for coverage against ground types, the only thing Drapion is weak to.

Kabutops@ Life Orb
Ability: Battle Armor
EVs: 252Att/252Spe/4Hp
Nature: Adamant
Swords Dance
Waterfall
Stone Edge
Rapid Spin

Kabutops is my rapid spinner as well as my life orb sweeper. He can set up swords dance and has enough bulk to take a hit or 2 behind dual screens, after that, I just use stone edge for crits or waterfall for flinch. Battle Armour to prevent crits bypassing my screens, and since I'm not using rain dance. I'm not sure if weak armor would be worth it or not, as I could take a hit or 2 and really get my speed going.

Yanmega@ Leftovers
Ability: Speed Boost
Evs: 252Spat/236Spe/20Hp
Nature: Modest
Bug Buzz
Air Slash
Ancient Power
Protect

This is why I need rapid spin so bad. With SR, Yanmega is crippled. 236 speed ensures I outspeed the fastest unboosted pokemon in RU (Accelgor) After one speed boost, and Protect is to get that speed boost, as well as leftovers recovery. Ancient Power is for coverage as well as to kill things to try to get lucky with that stat boost chance. Bug Buzz and Air Slash are for STAB, along with air slash's flinch chance and my speed making for some hopeful flinchax.

Escavalier@ Assault Vest
Ability: Shell Armor
EVs: 252Att/252Hp/4SpDef
Nature: Adamant
Knock Off
Drill Run
Iron Head
Megahorn

Escavalier is a special tank with assault vest and light screen up. Knock Off helps cripple my opponents, Drill run provides coverage against the only type escavalier is weak too, Megahorn and Iron Head (I wish it learned Gyro Ball) for STAB. Its speed is so slow, I didn't bother with any investment in that.

Clawitzer@ Expert Belt
Ability: Mega Launcher
EVs: 252SpAtt/252Hp/4Def
Nature:Modest
Aura Sphere
Water Pulse
Dragon Pulse
Dark Pulse

This set takes advantage of Clawitzer's ability as much as possible. Water Pulse is as powerful as surf, aura sphere more powerful than focus blast, and dragon pulse almost as powerful as draco meteor, without the Spatt. drop. Dark Pulse completes the set of "pulse" moves, although I thought about maybe Sludge Bomb instead. As with Escavalier, Clawitzer is pretty slow, so I used max HP instead of any speed. Expert Belt helps make Clawitzer's moves even more powerful, as long as they're SE.

That's it. I'm kinda new to competitive battling, so I'm not really expecting it to be too great, but it has a lot of my favorite pokemon, so I figured I'd try it. Also, all of them are shiny and this is for Pokemon Showdown.

Hi, I see no one has helped you so I'll try. And BTW, these sets are all importable!

Bronzong @ Light Clay
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Iron Head

I know that you said you didn't like investing in HP and would rather invest in both defenses. I know you said that. However, that is objectively worse than investing in HP and Defense or Special Defense. Without HP, your defense investment is practically worthless, and all those EV's go to waste. Trust me on this, you will be able to bulk a lot more with HP investment; Bronzong's 67 base HP is not nearly enough to justify only 4 EVs. Iron Head helps your Taunt-bait problem, so you aren't forced to Explode or switch when taunted (this is mostly for Whimsicott).

Drapion @ Black Sludge
Ability: Battle Armor
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Taunt
- Toxic Spikes
- Whirlwind
First off, Sniper Drapion is super super super gimmicky. Also, it's not very good for T. Spikes. The set I posted is the Specially Defensive set, which is by far the best for Toxic Spikes. Being Special Defensive takes away any concerns you may have about no Special Defense on Bronzong, so you don't have to worry about lacking any bulk in that area on your team. The moves are optimized for setting up, with T. Spikes are for obvious reasons, Whirlwind is for pHazing and getting more Pokemon over the T. Spikes and Toxic'd before the Spikes are cleared, Taunt allows you to prevent Defoggers from doing their job (it also helps in many other areas) and Knock Off is a generally good STAB move that is better than both Crunch and Night Slash due to its effect.

Gligar @ Eviolite
Ability: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Defog
- Earthquake
- Roost
- Toxic
I know what you're thinking, "I don't have a Gligar on my team, what is he saying?" I'm suggesting that you should substitute your Rapid Spinner, Kabutops, in for a Defogger, Gligar. Why, you ask? Because you have a killer Electric weakness. Three of your Pokemon are weak to it, and you have a devastating zero resists or immunities. Gligar over Kabutops not only takes away a weakness, but also gives you an immunity that could greatly help your team. I know, Defog clears your Hazards too, but that is almost negligable for a few reasons. For one, Drapion has Whirlwind, which, as I mentioned, can help you spread your Toxic status fast, and Gligar itself has Toxic, so if a Pokemon is unaffected by Spikes (a Flying Type or Levitate user, not a Poison immune) than Gligar can Toxic it manually. You can also Defog and then set your Hazards back up, given you've kept your leads alive and not let them die, so clearing them isn't to much of an issue.

Yanmega @ Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Protect
- Bug Buzz
- Air Slash
- Shadow Ball
A minor change here. Ancient Power is really weak, even on a powerhouse like Yanmega, and is especially weak on Speed Boost variants. All Speed Boost Yanmegas should be running Shadow Ball in their last slot in order to hit Doublade. Without Shadow Ball (or HP Fire, if you want that), Doublade runs over Speed Boost Yanmega, and forces a switch on what would otherwise be a sweep. With Doublade eliminated, you can continue to sweep and not have to switch and lose momentum.

Escavalier @ Assault Vest
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 174 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Megahorn
- Iron Head
- Knock Off
- Drill Run
Giving Escavalier Overcoat is another very minor change, but it is also very important. Overcoat gives Escavalier an immunity to Spore and other powder moves, which is incredibly important for switches onto Amoonguss, who will attempt to Spore you on the switch, leaving Escavalier asleep and at the mercy of your opponent. The EVs are really optional (and probably seem strange given Escavalier's speed), but they allow it to outspeed the likes of Aromatisse, Slowking, Reuniclus, and Slowking, all of which are Pokemon Escavalier will be attempting to hit.

These suggestions are just that, suggestions, but I can tell you that they would all help your team in a big way. So take them or leave them, but I would stongly consider them to be the best for your team.

Thanks for the help. I had actually stopped running t-spikes on drapion and started running earthquake instead. Also, ancientpower on yanmega was for coverage against ice, fire, and flying types, 3 types yanmega is weak too. I understand using shadowball to get passed doublade, but yanmega has never had to kill a doublade as I had always ko'd it with kabutops earlier. That being said, using gligar instead does mitigate the electric weakness (hadn't even noticed that before) and I'm using kaabutops on an OU team as well, so I can replace him. Giving Escavalier speed evs does seem kinda pointless, but outspeeding those pokes might be good. How much of a threat do they actually pose to escavalier though? I can see slowking burning with scald, but the other two don't seem very threatening to escavalier. At least I got one set right! :)

Escavalier will actually be killing a lot of those, with megahorn for amoonguss, reuniclus and slowking and iron head for aromatisse, so with the speed investment you can avoid them hitting you first, which can be annoying or actually quite devastating if king manages to get a scald burn off. And dont feel bad about me only not changing one set, you're new to the meta and I've been in your shoes before

I'm glad I got one thing right actually. It tells me I'm not completely clueless, just need more help. Usually, I just use whatever evs PS says I should.

Oh I see, that's pretty cool and the ps evs can actually throw you off, it messes me up all the time :P
