My first RMT (And post)

Hello Smogon, I personally don't view myself as that good at competitive battling, which a huge part of posting this team, in order to get feedback and improve my skills. My inspiration for this team was a challenge from a friend who was frustrated at the large amounts of legendary Pokemon saturating (as he put it) competitive play, and was wondering if I could try and make a good competitive team without using any legendary Pokemon or pseudo-legendaries. Building further, I took my love of moves such as U-Turn and Volt Switch, and combined that with good offensive typed priority moves. The biggest thing about this team is that it doesn't deal with sweepers by countering them really, it deals with them by going gung-ho and taking the fight to them. And here is the result: (I've been doing quite well with this team, I've played well over 25 games with it and I'd say my win-ratio is about 70/80%-30/20%. Also note that these are all standard sets, nothing special here. I decided it would be better to start off with standard sets to get a better hang of the game before I start making original custom sets.)

At a glance

Infernape, Breloom, Forretress, Gastrodon, Mamoswine, Rotom-W

Infernape (FuryisGrge)
@Choice Scarf
252 Atk 252 Spd 4 Sp.Atk
Naive nature
Blaze

Flare Blitz
Close Combat
HP Ice
U-Turn

Classic ScarfApe, not a whole lot to explain I feel. The first thing I look for in a scarfer is access to U-Turn or Volt Switch, because I absolutely love the momentum it produces. He has nice dual stab, and probably the biggest thing at the time, he outspeeds ScarfSect and can nail it with a super effective Flare Blitz. Of course, Genesect is in Ubers (where it belongs I think) so it loses that appeal, but I still love it.

Breloom (Halluciongen)
@Life Orb
252 Atk 252 Spd 4 HP
Jolly nature
Technician

Spore
Swords Dance
Mach Punch
Bullet Seed

SD Breloom is easily my second favorite Pokemon on this team, all it does is snap necks and cash checks. Mach Punch has that fantastic STAB, and with Technician coming off of 130 base attack, it's going to hurting like hell (eat your heart out Scizor). My first reason for using Breloom: Spore. Simple as that. Spore is an extremely silly move, and turns anything into set up bait for Breloom. And I've been finding that barring Pokemon that resist Mach Punch or are dedicated defenders, I'm getting away with less and less prior damage and just OHKOing even without an SD boost, and it doesn't hurt that fighting is an amazing offensive type. And Bullet Seed on this thing is plain stupid, it gets off way too much damage on various things, even things that resist it. Yea Breloom is just too good.

Forretress (Furytress)
@Leftovers
252 Def 252 HP, 4 Sp.Def
Bold nature
Sturdy

Spikes
Toxic Spikes
Rapid Spin
Volt Switch

Forretress has been doing work, providing me with momentum, setting up and spinning away hazards. It's always nice to Volt Switch on the switch to their Spin-Blocker, and go into something to scare them out. I'm really not sure about Toxic Spikes, because I've never really needed them. I'm really thinking about giving it something like Earthquake or Gyro Ball, because it is slightly annoying when you check Pokemon, yet you can't do anything directly to them. He provides really good defensive synergy with Gastrodon, Forry covers the grass weakness, Gastro covers the fire weakness.

Gastrodon (Maestrodon)
@Leftovers
252 Sp.Def 252 HP, 252 Def
Calm nature
Storm Drain

Scald
Ice Beam
Toxic
Recover

Man is this thing bulky. It takes hits like a beast, can Toxic their face and Recover all day. Gastro really puts in work, especially against those damn dragons that litter the metagame like hippies in Oregon, basically 2KHOing them with Ice Beam. I don't really feel a need to explain how Gastrodon works (or much of my Pokemon in general) because you guys aren't stupid, you know what it does good against and what it does.

Mamoswine (Manny)
@Focus Sash
252 Atk, 252 HP, 4 Spd
Adamant
Thick Fat

Earthquake
Ice Shard
Stealth Rock
Endeavor

Okay, I'm going to be honest here, I fucking love Mamoswine and is my personal favorite on the team. Easily the best thing about it is the Ice Shard, and coming off it's huge ATK stat, it's going to net KO's. Ice Shard is so invaluable, because almost everyone I've played, there is at least one Dragon Pokemon serving a critical sweeping role, and Mamoswine just ruins it's day. Earthquake is there for powerful STAB, Stealth Rocks because rocks, and Endeavor. I barely use Endeavor, but holy shit when I do it WRECKS FACE. Also I love Sash, because it just serves as extra insurance that I don't get swept by anything. You wouldn't believe how many times people send in Pokemon to threaten out my Mamoswine, while I still have my sash intact, and instead of switching out they stay in and try and set up and they got demolished by Earthquake or Ice Shard, and follow up with another Ice Shard. Maybe it's because they're bad players, but eh, what can ya do about that?

Rotom-W (Wash Out)
@Leftovers
184 HP, 4 Def, 144 Sp. Atk, 176 Spd
Modest nature
Levitate

Hydro Pump
Volt Switch
Will-O-Wisp
Pain Split

I just really needed a bulky attacker to take hits and retaliate back, and Rotom-W serves that role beautifully. Hydro Pump for power, Volt Switch because damn momentum is awesome, Will-O-Wisp to laugh at physical sweepers, and Pain Split to live longer.

So yea that's that, I apologize for the lack of depth, but I'm pretty tired and I just need to grind this out and write it. Any type of feedback is appreciated, if you think the team sucks and I suck at the game, go ahead, don't hold back, just make sure you tell me how to not suck. If you think this team rocks, even better. I just want to become a better player really. Thanks!

Welcome to Smogon! If you could use pictures of the Pokemon in your thread, that'd make it look more aesthetically pleasing and alot more people would rate it, because as of now it looks rather bland.

My main concern is how you would counter Tornadus-T Scarfed under rain, as your Mamoswine is pretty much a one-and-done Pokémon. Tornadus tears through Breloom and Infernape like paper, and also your lack of Rock-negation/disposal and ability to control the weather.
This team has the fundamentals for a rain team and could really work like one, but Infernape would get in the way even more than it does now.

I would suggest removing Infernape for a Flying-resist, like Latias, which I know you don't want to use legendaries, but it really doesn't matter. This is OU.

Honestly, I think you could clump the EVs, the nature, the ability, and the item into one line using | and a space to divide between each one. For example *insert evs here* | *insert item here* | *insert nature here* | *insert ability here*.

It would make this much less of an eyesore to read. Also, put a ~ or a - before each move so we can easily see them. this is what infernape would look like after these changes.

Infernape (FuryisGrge) @Choice Scarf
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Speed, 4 Sp. Atk | Naive | Blaze
~Flare Blitz
~Close Combat
~Hidden Power Ice
~U-Turn

Also, i would suggest
. RMTs are all about presentation. If anyone has to strain in the least to understand your RMT, they're not going to read it.

Welcome to Smogon!
