Alooooooha!
Coming at you live from Hawaii. Here's my very first RMT! I'm very interested in improving my team-building and battling skills, so please share any ideas or insights that you may have. On to the team:
Gengar @ Life Orb/Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Timid
EVs: Sp. Atk 252/Sp. Def 4/Spd 252
-Will-O-Wisp
-Substitute
-Hex
-Sludge Wave
The star of the team. Hex Gengar catches opponents completely off guard, and fires off a massive 130 base power Hex when its opponent is afflicted with a status condition. Will-O-Wisp allows Gengar to spread status on its own. I opted for Substitute here instead of Taunt: I noticed that Gengar lacked opportunities to set up a burn on physical attackers, so I aim for a Sub on predicted switches then go for the burn. Hex is obviously my main attack. Sludge Wave gives my coverage against fairies as well as a strong STAB against several Pokemon.
Thundurus @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Hasty
EVs: Atk 4/Sp. Atk 252/Spd 252
-Thunder Wave
-Thunderbolt
-Knock Off
-HP Ice
Thundurus is a perfect partner for Gengar, a one of the easiest ways to spread status around and force switches. Prankster T-Wave annoys the opponent and can cripple faster threats in the early or middle stages of a battle. Thunderbolt is a powerful and obligatory STAB attack. Knock Off punishes opponents for attempting to switch into ground types or other Electric types, and HP Ice provides great coverage.
Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Bold
EVs: HP 240/Def 92/Sp. Atk 172/Sp.Def 4
-Hydro Pump
-Volt Switch
-Will-O-Wisp
-Pain Split
Specially Defensive Heatran is one of the biggest threats to my team. With this EV spread, Rotom is able to score a guaranteed 2HKO on Heatran with Hydro Pump. Its other EVs allow it to switch in on some attacks and become an offensive pivot woth Volt Switch. Will-O-Wisp spreads even more status conditions around, and Pain Split is there for recovery - though Chesto-Resto might make more sense.
Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
Nature: Jolly
EVs: HP 40/Atk 252/Spd 216
-U-Turn
-Bullet Punch
-Submission
-Swords Dance
Scizor is Rotom's VoltTurn partner, and a powerful one at that. It's able to outspeed Jolly Bisharp and most Heatran with these speed EVs, with the rest going into Attack and HP. Bullet Punch is a powerful priority move that can revenge kill weakened 'mons. Submission is there to Hit Chansey and Blissey, and Swords Dance can give me a boost for late game sweeps or higher damage with U-Turn on the way out.
Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
Nature: Impish
EVs: HP 252/Atk 24/Def 212/Sp. Def 20
-Stealth Rock
-Earthquake
-Dragon Tail
-Toxic
The team's Stealth Rock supplier, and surprise physical tank. The given EV spread gives Garchomp great bulk, allows it to OHKO Bisharp with Earthquake every time, and reduces Thundurus T's chances of an OHKO with HP Ice to about 43 percent. Dragon Tail phases pokemon out, and Toxic is there to wear down opponents and provide more status support for Gengar's Hex.
Clefable @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
Nature: Modest
EVs: HP 248/Sp. Atk 252/Sp. Def 8
-Calm Mind
-Moonblast
-Flamethrower
-Soft-Boiled
My team was against Mega Sableye, so Magic Guard Clefable was the natural answer. Calm Mind bolsters Clefable's special stats, allowing it to both withstand special attacks with greater ease as well as dish out moderately strong attacks of its own after a few boosts. Moonblast is a must with any Clefable, as it is its most reliable STAB move. Soft-Boiled is essential for reliably replenishing Clefable's health. Flamethrower does well in damaging most Steel-types; for instance, after a single boost, it OHKOes Mega Scizor, Ferrothorn, and Skarmory.
That's it for the team. I look forward to your input! Thanks everyone.
