XY OU My First RMT. Not Really Too Much of a Theme???

Hi guys. I think I might have done an RMT before but if so, I don't remember it. So this is the first, or the "first," or whatever. Anyway, I've got a team I cobbled together that I've been using to dip my feet into the competitive scene, and I have been enjoying moderate success with it on the bottom rungs on the ladder, I'd say winning 80-90% of my games. Since this team's conception, little modifications have been made, and I hope you guys can change that. Thanks in advance!

Changes that I think I'm going to keep will be in bold.

Now excuse me while I take a few minutes to find images, since it wouldn't be a proper RMT without one...

Alright!!! Here's the team:

greninja.gif

Greninja
@ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Ice Beam
- Hydro Pump
- Shadow Sneak
- U-turn

Why- Here's what I like a lead to be: (maybe it's not what a lead should be, but keep in mind I have no idea what I'm doing) a versatile attacker that can hit fast and hard but also can get the hell out if it needs to. Well, Greninja seemed like a solid, dependable choice. Why the EVs? Don't ask me. I just clicked the teambuilder's recommendation.

Description- Ice Beam and Hydro Pump seemed pretty standard to me, added Shadow Sneak because of the sexy, delicious priority. As for the U-turn, refer to the aforementioned "get the hell out if it needs to-" and generally it hits fast enough to get that free switch. As for the Expert Belt? Don't ask me.

excadrill.gif

Excadrill
@ Air Balloon
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin

Why- Excadrill was actually the pokemon I decided to build this team on, not sure how that turned out, but whatever. Anyway, you got that classic Sand Rush Excadrill (is it really that classic? Who knows?) I've never really used this pokemon before so I thought I might build a team on it.

Description- I think this set seems pretty standard. Rapid Spin seems pretty self explanatory, etc., etc. Air Balloon? Maybe there's a better alternative. It's been working decently enough for me, but maybe it's not the best item, haven't been running into that many Earthquakes.

tyranitar-mega.gif

Tyranitar (Mega)
@ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch

Why- This was the second pokemon I added to my team, obviously I need a way to bring out sandstorm if I'm going to make use of Sand Rush.

Description- Not much to say here. I like Stealth Rock on Tyranitar because all the pros tellin me that's the way to go. I feel, however, that I am not utilizing to its fullest, and have played several matches with Tyranitar as the lead, but not really noticing any discernible effect.

amoonguss.gif

Amoonguss
@ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
- Clear Smog
- Sludge Bomb
- Giga Drain
- Spore

Why- Amoonguss is my bae. Maybe there are other pokemon more useful than this guy, but he's worked pretty well for me. Basically has a primary role as a pivot (am I even using that word correctly) by forcing some annoying pokemon to switch out using Spore.

Description- But that's not all! Giga Drain + Regenerator basically means that Amoonguss stays alive forever (ok maybe not) and Clear Smog is used to get rid of those pesky sweepers (like Scolipede?) I've tried Foul Play on this guy too, but it just wasn't doing it for me. Also seems like a pretty effective counter to Azumarill, does that even count for anything
talonflame.gif

Talonflame
@ Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Aerial Ace

Why- This guy does work. Sure, I'll be the first to admit that U-turn is pretty dumb (?) on a Choice Band Talonflame. But this bird is fast. Deadly. The top predator.

Description- Obviously Brave Bird and Flare Blitz is the way to go. Not sure what I'm doing with Roost and U-turn on a Choice set, again. But Talonflame is pretty reliable at its job, which is killing.

magnezone.gif

Magnezone
@ Air Balloon
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Magnet Rise
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Volt Switch

Why- Steel types are all the rage in OU, or something like that. Magnet Pull and HP Fire are the tricks of the trade to get rid of those pesky Steels. Again, is Choice Scarf the way to go? Hasn't hindered it too much.

Description- Thunderbolt and Flash Cannon are the stabs, and HP Fire is that steel killer. Volt Switch is to get in, kill a gyarados or something, and then get out.

So that's the team. It's been working pretty decently for me, but I think there are a lot of things that can be improved (EV, held items, everything else) so if you're still reading this, thank you for putting up with my juvenile attitude and terrible teambuilding skills. Good night.

i have had run magnezone in the past but not with full speed EV's or a choice scarf. seems too restrictive to put one, like if you finish killing a steel-type with HP Fire and he brings a fairy or water type, you give your opponent a free turn.

always seen Magnezone as something pretty slow anyways.

Here is a cool set for Magnezone:
Magnezone @ Air Balloon
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 172 HP / 252 SpA / 84 Spe
Modest Nature
- Magnet Rise
- Hidden Power Fire
- Flash Cannon
- Volt Switch

what you do is you switch in on excadrill's earthquake, use magnet rise as he tries to pop your balloon and then laught at him while you tries to kill you with rock slide.

tyranitar-mega.gif

Tyranitar @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Fire Punch/Ice Punch > Stealth Rock

Haven't you ever been in the situation where you've set up your Mega-Tyranitar and someone brings in a Gliscor/Ferrothorn/Skarmory forcing you to switch and allowing them a few free turns because you either get killed of from an Earthquake/Power Whip or you get Whirlwind out. Fire Punch or Ice Punch, depending on which one you choose serve as nice coverage against those Pokemon and doesn't force you to waste turn setting up. The hard part is choosing which elemental punch you rather pick. You have Ice for Pokemon such as Gliscor and Landorus or Fire for Skarmory and Ferrothorn. I find myself playing battles and wishing I had the other elemental punch from the one I have on at the moment.

I'd say Magnezone deals with the Steel types quite well so Ice Punch if your preferred choice.

greninja.gif

Greninja @ Life Orb
Ability: Protean
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Ice Beam
- Hydro Pump
- Dark Pulse
- U-turn

Life Orb allows you to get much more power of with the certified chance that you'll actually be taking out the Pokemon. Effective without having to lock yourself into anything, it is the most damage that you could be doing. Dark Pulse allows you to hit multiple things in the tier hard without forcing yourself to switch out using U-turn incase of hazards. Such Pokemon include Mew, Slowbro, Gengar and more.

Thanks for your help, guys. Dark Pulse does let me muscle past a bunch of threats without resorting to ttar, but I feel like I'm not utilizing dragon dance as much.

Also, in response to the previous guys, Magnet Rise has been helping out, and I think that choice scarf was really limiting to magnezone.

Currently testing a bit more.

Its best to try and get the U-turn on something which Tyranitar can scare, therefore allowing a free Dragon Dance and Mega Evolve.

I have tested Greninja with Dark Pulse, and without Shadow Sneak, I find myself at an incredible loss to fighting types (Keldeo, Focus blast etc.) with two thirds of my team weak. Without Shadow Sneak how can I pull off a decent defense?

Dark Pulse on Greninja is useless after the ban of Aegislash. Give Extrasensory > Dark Pulse.

252 SpA Life Orb Protean Greninja Extrasensory vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Keldeo: 315-374 (97.5 - 115.7%)
252 SpA Life Orb Protean Greninja Extrasensory vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Conkeldurr: 276-328 (66.6 - 79.2%)
252 SpA Life Orb Protean Greninja Extrasensory vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mega Venusaur: 250-296 (68.6 - 81.3%)

another gimmicky yet cool set for greninja is subliechi and water shuriken with torrent and rain dance = 5x multiplier on water moves

You should swap your momoentum murdering amoonguss for stealth rock offensive celebi as it checks what you need it to and gives you the precious rocks. This enable you to run godly dd ttar. Also props for using shadow sneak on ninja becuase your team gets rekt by mach punch.

Celebi @ Life Orb/leftiz
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 220 HP / 252 SpA / 36 Spe
Modest Nature
- Giga Drain
- Psychic
- Stealth Rock
- Recover/Earthpower

I'll try Extrasensory > Dark Pulse, but I might revert back to Shadow Sneak, I am unsure. I'll also try HP Fire > U-turn.

I get that amoonguss stops my momentum cold, but it has the bulk to take several hits and then switch out and heal with Regenerator. Not only that but amoonguss stops setup sweepers like belly drum azu and baton pass scolipede. But I will try Celebi.
