ORAS OU My First RMT : OU TEAM III [codename] MEGA RAFFLESIA

Hello everyone! The Pokemon Engineer here! After witnessing a player sticking it out with an amazing Mega-Venusaur, I was introduced to the walling powers of this flower-bearing reptilian.

Inspired by the mega evolution of the Seed Pokemon, I decided to revolve a team around Mega Venusaur. Without delay, I present: OU TEAM III [codename] MEGA RAFFLESIA!

I decided to have a balanced team for this particular team and my format goes as so:
Physical Attacker
Special Attacker
Physical Wall
Special Wall
Utility/Cleric
Scarfer

The Teambuilding Process

Ah, the limelight shines on this Kanto Starter. So, Venusaur has the amazing ability of Thick Fat, weakening its fire and ice weaknesses. However, Venusaur is still susceptible to psychic and flying types. Thus, Heatran was a great teammate for Venusaur by creating a sort of defensive core.

After adding OU's most effective Pokemon into the mix, Heatran and Mega Venusaur cover each other's weak points: Heatran takes care of Pokemon like Talonflame, Latios, Scizor and Gengar for Mega Venusaur and in turn Mega Venusaur takes care of Keldeo, Rotom-Wash, and Azumarill. However, Heatran factors in a really bad fighting weakness but to the Lava Dome Pokemon's rescue comes along Clefable.

036.png

Clefable can take on fighting types that come Heatran's way as well as taking on most Pokemon that run Earthquake and are weak to fairy-type moves. This Pokemon also appreciates getting steel and poison types out of the picture and Heatran does this marvellously by resisting steel and immune to poison. Speaking of immunities, an attacker that loves Clef's immunity to dragon-types is Latios.

Latios has a great role in this team by hitting hard and switching out from super-effective foes into resistances and immunities. Latios sees a priority Ice Shard and I can switch to either Mega Venusaur (yes after mega) or Heatran. Scarfed Dragons aren't a problem for Latios cause a switch to Clefable would be made. Heatran has a nasty ground weakness and Latios covers that with Levitate. Chesnaught can pose a huge problem to Mega Venusaur and sometimes Heatran yet Latios doesn't mind wrecking Chesnaught with a few psychic attacks.

Just to add another core, I brought Azumarill in this team to form a Grass/Fire/Water core with Heatran and Mega Venusaur. I also added Azumarill in need of a dedicated Physical Attacker and is close to balancing my team.

Based Staraptor comes to balance the team. I use Staraptor as a Scarfed Lead and Scouter and it tears apart a good amount of defensive Pokemon and common leads like Garchomp and Terrakion. At the mention of Garchomp, stealth rocks can pose a problem to Staraptor, so Latios's Defog comes in handy.

Physical Wall

Mega Rafflesia (Venusaur-Mega) @ Venusaurite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Synthesis
- Leech Seed
Giga Drain is my one of two STAB moves and is handy on keeping it up and about. Sludge Bomb is the last of two STAB moves that can hit dragons and other most other poison neutral Pokemon. Synthesis is Venusaur's best and reliable recovery move sadly and Leech Seed is used to phaze Setup-Sweeper and Pokemon hiding in Substitutes. 252 EVs in HP, 240 in Physical Defense, and a Bold Nature (-Atk, +Def) are essential for a defensive Venusaur. The remaining 16 EVs are put in Speed to outspeed slow Pokemon that are weak to its moves.

Special Wall/Hazarder

Heatflan (Heatran) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 192 SpD / 68 Spe
Calm Nature
-
Lava Plume
- Toxic
- Taunt
-
Stealth Rock
Leftovers increases Heatran's longevity and Flash Fire is good ability to pivot fire-type moves into for increased fire type move damage on my front. Lava Plume is a STAB move that I run on Heatran, one reason being is to get rid of Steel Types and has a great chance of burning Pokemon.
0 SpA Heatran Lava Plume vs. 248 HP / 176 SpD Mega Scizor: 372-436 (108.4 - 127.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO.
Toxic is important for wearing down walls and constant recovery. Taunt is useful for stopping walls in their tracks, like Mandibuzz and Calm Mind Clefable. Stealth Rocks is ideal for luring in spinners and dealing damage. 248 EVs in HP, 192 Special Defense, and a Calm Nature (-Atk, +Sp-Def) is important for a Special Defensive 'Mon like Heatran and lets it deal with Mega Manectric. The remaining 68 EVs go into Speed to outrun Mandibuzz and Suicune.

Utility/Cleric

da face of mercy? (Clefable) @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Moonblast
- Heal Bell
- Wish
- Protect

Leftovers increases Clefable's battling lifespan and its ability Unaware makes it extremely useful when facing a set-up sweeper. Moonblast is Clef's go-to STAB move, and because of its amazing bulk: Heal Bell, Wish and Protect make Clef the ideal cleric. Standard EVs are 248 HP, 252 Defense, and the remaining 8 in Special Defense. 248 HP is for the unlikely event of switching on an entry hazard, preferably Rocks. Back to Clef's bulk, it can take a variety of hits and still last.
252 SpA Raikou Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Clefable: 147-174 (37.3 - 44.1%) -- 100% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Solar Beam vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Clefable: 165-195 (41.8 - 49.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Special Attacker

w8? do u see it? (Latios) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
-
Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Defog
Latios's life orb boosts all his attacks by 30% making him a hard hitter:
252 SpA Life Orb Latios Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-T: 333-394 (104.3 - 123.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO.
Levitate is great for pivoting from Heatran to evade ground-type attacks aimed at Heatran. Draco Meteor is an amazing STAB move but the sharp Special Attack recoil forces me to switch out. Psyshock is another great STAB move to use where it takes care of non-psychic-resistant Pokemon with low physical defense. Hidden Power Fire is a way to get rid of Pokemon Like Scizor and Ferrothorn and Defog gets rid of hazard like HP Fire gets rid of Scizor and Ferrothorn. Latios's full Special Attack and Speed investment and a plus speed nature outspeeds a: Specs Keldeo, Life Orb Terrakion, 252+ Mega Pinsir, and Garchomp. The extra 4 EVs go to Special Defense.

Physical Wall

Torrent (Azumarill) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Knock Off
Assault Vest (boosts SpD by 50%) Azumarill works amazingly as an offensive special def. tank and Huge Power makes everything even more better. Play Rough and Waterfall are its main and spectacular physical STAB moves with great coverage and power. Aqua Jet, Azumarill's priority STAB boosted move helps out in sticky Landorus-T situations (after Azu comes in so no intimidate shenanigans) by forcing a switch-out or a 2HKO:
252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Waterfall vs. 0 HP / 24 Def Landorus-T: 338-398 (105.9 - 124.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Knock Off is Azu's final move which is great for coverage and crippling walls like Chansey and Skarmory. This 240 HP/16 SpD EV defense spread allows Azumarill to slide right through most Special Attackers and obliterate them with a full EVs in Attack and a plus attack nature.
252+ SpA Alakazam Psychic vs. 240 HP / 16 SpD Assault Vest Azumarill: 132-156 (32.9 - 38.9%) -- 99.5% chance to 3HKO

Physical Scarfer
SQUAWK! (Staraptor) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Double-Edge
- Close Combat
- U-turn
With an ability like Reckless with raises the power of recoil moves and a Choice Scarf for an item, Staraptor has quickly become a fast and dangerous wallbreaker. Brave Bird and Double-Edge are two STAB and Reckless boosted moves. Brave Bird being the one STAB move with the best coverage and Double-Edge being on the safe, neutral side. Close Combat is for powerful coverage against rock and steel types and U-Turn is for scouting and pivoting. The Maximum Attack and Speed EVs truly make Staraptor a threat and factoring in the Choice Scarf multiplier, Staraptor can outspeed: Talonflame, Diggersby, and Mega Pidgeot. The extra 4 EVs then go into Defense.

Thanks in advance for the help and for reading :D

Great looking team. I would suggest running EQ or HP Fighting over Hidden power fire on Latios as you need a way to deal with heatran on it and you can already beet steel types with your own heatran.

EDIT
Plus they would help you beet Bisharp on the switch ;)

This team has-- count em-- 0 win conditions.
This team has-- count em-- 0 Talonflame counters.

I will start with the Talonflame thing. Give Heatran Stone Edge or Ancient Power (over Toxic). Both allow you to hit Talonflame, but there are issues with both moves.
-Stone Edge's Accuracy will sometimes cost you the game.
-Stone Edge does not do too well against a Bulk Up flame that has already gotten a boost up.
-Stone Edge DOES have a higher chance to crit hax.
-Stone Edge beats SpDef variants, easily.
-You may keep your Timid nature.
________________________________________________________________________________________
-Ancientpower can be PP stalled by SpDef flame. Taunting would work though.
-Ancientpower has a chance to raise ALL stats by 1 stage.
-Acientpower will never miss, bar Protect and Two-Turn Moves (please, do not point out an additional method, he gets it.)
-Ancientpower takes still beats normal talonflame, which is more common anyway.

Next, you need a set-up sweeper, and its easier if it acts as one of your attackers. Latios cannot set-up very well, but you happen to have one of the best cleaners in the current meta. You have azumarril, and by changing its set, you can give yourself a way to easily clean up games.

Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 92 HP / 252 Atk / 164 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Knock Off

Lastly, make sure all special attackers have 0 Attack IVs, to protect against confusion hax and Foul Play damage.

^ yeah I just tried testing his team and round 1 got swept by talonflame. Didn't catch that right away. Also may I suggest trying
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD
Calm Nature
- Moonlight
- Thunderbolt
- Moonblast
- Calm Mind/Heal Bell

1. It can be your win condition if you run calm mind
2. Help you beet manaphy as unboosted thunderbolt does 33.9-40.5% to tail glow manaphy. You will be immune to its stat boost.
3. This can help you put out some damage on bulk up Talonflame which Heatran cannot always handle
4. You smack Life Orb Tornadus-T with a surprise 2hitko which otherwise would give Mega Ven and Heatran core problems
5. Surprise things like Taunt+DD Gyarados which otherwise could put in some work on your team mid game

Hey there, pretty cool team!
In addition to the advice given by the above raters, I would start by replacing Staraptor, since Staraptor has little to no place on a balanced build given that it lacks the bulk needed to switch into threats, and thus isn't very useful here. EQ Mega-Metagross right now slaughters most of the team on the spot, so I would try and cover that weakness with Defensive Landorus-T:
Landorus-Therian (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 8 SpD / 8 Spe
Impish Nature
- U-turn
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock/Knock Off
Defensive Landorus-T helps mitigate the Talonflame weakness, offers good bulk to the team, and can check Mega-Metagross well - U-Turn also allows it to pivot into another team-member and thus gain momentum.

Another change that I feel could work is replacing Latios with Latias, since the support Latias can offer balanced teams in terms of superior bulk and Healing Wish makes it a better choice for the team over Latios - you could use a set like the one below, which can offer some good support if needed while also maintaining some firepower.
Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Healing Wish

I also feel that having both Azumarill and Clefable on the same team may be slightly redundant, since two Fairy-types will lead to multiple common weaknesses while also offering little more in terms of resists - given the lack of win conditions on the team, I would suggest replacing Azumarill with SubCM Keldeo, which can be devastating if given the chance to set-up, while also appreciating the support from M-Venu and Latias, with the set as follows:
Keldeo @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Secret Sword

Best of luck!

Yeah, I can see how Talonflame is a huge threat: i'll try using Ancientpower on Heatran as well as Set-Up Azumarill. A different moveset for Clefable should do well, and Latias over Latios can seem very helpful due to that extra bulk. I'll test out the team soon. Thanks so much :D
