Well, I've been battling on Shoddy for a while and trying to formulate a good team and this is the best I've come up with so far. I read all of the required reading, but please, bear with me because this is my first RMT thread. Well, here goes nothing.
Overview:
Azelf @ Focus Sash
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 6 Atk/252 SAtk/252 Spe
Hasty nature (+Spe, -Def)
- Stealth Rock
- Psychic
- Flamethrower
- Explosion
I have seen quite a few different variations of an Azelf lead in my experiences on Shoddy, and I feel that I went with a pretty standard one. I usually set up the Rocks on the first turn, but if something comes out that outspeeds me and will probably Taunt (Aerodactyl, Crobat), I will attack with Psychic. Flamethrower is there to take care of other leads that resist Psychic. I chose Flamethrower over Fire Blast because I'm not a fan of the shaky accuracy, even if it does cost me an OHKO. After the Rocks are up and its HP lowered, I blow up.
Breloom @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 48 HP/252 Atk/208 Spe
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Mach Punch
- Seed Bomb
- Facade
I am a big fan of this Breloom. I've used it in about 10 battles on Shoddy so far and in about 8-9 of them, the opponent has either a.) Switched in something that could absorb sleep, or b.) Used Sleep Talk, expecting the Spore. Both scenarios basically get me a free Swords Dance. I know its like a sin to have a Breloom without Spore, but this set definitely carries a certain element of surprise with it. My main attack is Mach Punch, to make up for its middle of the road speed. Seed Bomb is mainly for Swampert, but works on all of the Bulky Waters, and is a good STAB move. Facade is because of its high power after Poison. I usually bring this thing in either on a free switch or to take an Earthquake aimed at Heatran or a Stone Edge aimed at Gyarados.
Porygon2 @ Leftovers
Ability: Trace
EVs: 252 HP/216 Def/40 SAtk
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Discharge
- Ice Beam
- Toxic
- Recover
I really love using this thing. Its my favorite counter to come of the most common Pokemon, like Gyarados, Salamence, etc. I basically bring it in on anything whose ability, when Traced, will work against them. Discharge and Ice Beam usually OHKO Gyarados and Salamence, respectively. It can take most physical hits with plenty to spare and Recovers up to high health again.
Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 108 HP/156 Atk/144 SpDef/100 Spe
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
So basically, I took the standard BulkyGyara and switched up the EV spread. I have used it on Shoddy and have had a ton of success with it. I try to differentiate it as much as I can from my Kingdra, which is somewhat the reason for the weird EV spread. If I set it up right, this thing can wreak havoc on the opposing team.
Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 6 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
Hasty nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Explosion
- Flamethrower
- Dragon Pulse
- Earth Power
I really like to use Scarftran as a revenge killer. I bring it in after a Pokemon has gone down to finish of the attacker. Flamethrower is my reliable STAB. Dragon Pulse, obviously, is for those pesky Dragons who it otherwise can't touch. Earth Power is for Rocks and Steels, as well as opposing Heatran. Explosion is there for when his job is done, to get a good amount of damage on switch ins.
Raikou @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 6 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
Timid nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Calm Mind
- Extrasensory
In my opinion, Raikou is one of the most underrated Pokemon of this Generation. It is a great special sweeper. Raikou, for me, functions as a late game cleaner. He comes in and takes out all of the Pokemon weakened by the rest of the team. Thunderbolt is for STAB, HP Ice OHKO's most Dragons I face, and Extrasensory is there for a little more power against Fighters. I am very open to swapping out Extrasensory for something else, so if you have any suggestions, feel free to state them.
Well there is my team. As you can see, it is a very offensive team, because I am not a fan of stall. I have used it with success on Shoddy, but i want to make it as strong as it can be. I would go into detail about threats, but I don't know a whole lot about the huge threats in the metagame, since I usually battle in UU. So please I need your help and suggestions. Thank you in advance.
My edits will be in bold.
