ORAS OU My First RMT post

This is my first RMT here on Smogon, I've been playing on showdown for a while with moderate success (1700 Peek). I always come here looking for cool team ideas or unique sets to run with, but lately I've been trying to build my own from scratch. So far I have come up with a few good cores but my favorite so far is Mega-Houndoom, and Gengar, but my team still feels like it could be improved on which is why I'm posting here. But without further ado here's the team.

Houndoom @ Houndoomite
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: Hasty
- Fire Blast
- Dark Pulse
- Sludge Bomb
- Sucker Punch

I decided on Mega-Doom as the star of my team Mostly due to the Aegislash test going on right now it resists both of its stabs hits hard and fast with a nice base 145 Special attack, a usable 90 base attack for stab sucker punch, and a nice speed Tier sitting at base 115. I chose to run Fire blast over flamethrower because the extra power is nice, Dark Pulse for stab, Sludge Bomb for hitting Azu on the switch and anything else that resists my STAB, and Sucker Punch is for catching faster pokes off guard or weekend mons that come in for the revenge kill.

Gengar @ Life Orb
Ability: levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252
Nature: Timid
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast
- Substitute

Ahhh Gengar still in OU after all these years, and for a good reason too!! I picked Gengar as the second part of my core because it pairs really well together with Doom. Doom is immune to psychic and out speeds the most common users (lati@s) witch Gengar ties with, and doom also resists Ghost. Gar is immune to fighting and ground both of which Doom is weak to, so they round out each others weakness pretty well. Shadow Ball and Focus blast have amazing coverage, while sludge wave is there for fairies and its not stopped by bulletproof, and sub to give me some free attacks and absorbing sucker punches.

chesnaught.gif

Chesnaught @ Leftovers
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Drain Punch
- Wood Hammer/Seed Bomb/Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Spiky Shield

The next poke Is Chesnaught who i chose as a mega-lopuny check and water resist, Because keldeo and Bunny run through my core. He provides Leech Seed support and can threaten out common checks like driller, T-Tar. Drain punch is for recovery while Wood Hammer is preferred over seed bomb for the extra power, and spikes are kinda counter-productive because i have a defoger. Spiky shield rounds out the set giving me extra recovery plus chip damage.

rotom-wash.gif

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split

Rotom Rounds Out the FWG Core along with Chess and Doom and acts as my bird check at the same time. The 44 speed lets it hit 219 letting it Outspeed max speed jolly Azu which smacks my team after a Belly drum so the speed Creep lets me get a off a will-o or volt switch without taking too much damage. The moveset is standard rotom, Hydro for stab, volt switch for gaining momentum, Wisp to cripple physical threats, and pain split for recovery

latias.gif

Latias (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Healing Wish

Latias is my defoger/rapid spinner on the team, while also providing Healing wish Support to bring back any crippled mon. 72 HP Evs lets Latias avoid the 2HKO from Life Orb Thundurus's Hidden Power Ice without Stealth Rock damage and also hits a Life Orb number. Subsequently, the remaining 184 Special Attack EVs guarantee the OHKO on Landorus after Stealth Rock damage.

garchomp-f.gif

Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail
- Swords Dance Fire Blast
- Stealth Rock

Defensive Garchomp is my main utility mon providing stealth rocks, lots of residual damage with Rough Skin and Rocky Helmet, Phasing with dragon tail, and setting up on stall with SD. the given spread allows garchomp to survive HP Ice from mixed Lando-I so it can reliably set up rocks, while 96 speed allows garchomp to Speed creep on things out speeding max speed Base 70's.

importable (tanks Team Pokepals :] )

Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 Spe

Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

On Gengar I would run Will O Wisp > Substitute because there's no reason to sacrifice more HP, and Will O Wisp lets you cripple physical threats like Bisharp. I really like the Mega Houndoom set, especially Sucker Punch because no one expects it. On Garchomp I would go Fire Blast > Swords Dance because you can hit Ferrothorn for some major damage, and there isn't too much of a need to set up with tank chomp because his main role is to take hits, lay out rocks, and phaze opponents out. Here is the importable and for the buttons, above the 1st line (in this case Houndoom@Houndoomite) you put bracket hide= and then the name with a bracket to close it. On the last line you add a [/ hide and then close brackets (no space between/ and hide btw) Hope this helps. Don't forget to add a peak, and replays would be awesome!

Alright, firstly, you add an importable in the most simple way possible like this:

Open Showdown > Click on 'Teambuilder' > Click on the desired team > Click on the button 'Import/Export' next to your team name > Copy paste what's inside!

I know that Team Pokepals already explained it, but I still find it rather incomplete since the importable seems to be full of holes that you originally added in your team descriptions (The first half of the team specifically).

Team Pokepals has given a good description of changes, but there is one that I'd like to add. I would suggest Houndoom's nature to be Naive over Hasty because it will reduce its vulnerability to priority and the only special priority is Vacuum Wave that is only seen on the rare Lucario's even rarer special set, which Sucker Punch won't save you from most of the time. However, I would like to disagree with Will-O-Wisp > Substitute because Rotom-W can already spread burns and Substitute helps ease prediction with Gengar, allowing for it to use the appropriate coverage move on the switch-in.

This team looks like It struggles with stall. I suggest adding taunt onto Gengar for sub. Or drop Rotom-W for Mixed Thundy, Which can also serve as a bird check and really demolish stall.

Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 64 Atk / 192 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Knock Off
- Grass Knot
- Superpower

This set really decimates stall. Knock off to get rid of Chansey's eviolite. If they are careless enough to switch in on Thundy. Superpower to finish off the chansey(Also hits Tran, Ttar, Excadrill etc) And Grass knot which deals with Quagsire, which is commonly found on stall.

The last move is entirely up to you, I can see how Sub helps, but I think its a great option once Gengar's checks are gone because Life Orb really limits you. That was my main concern with Sub, but Taunt and Will O Wisp are also great options.

I was actually trying to come up with a replacement for Rotom as it really didn't fit the team too well, and ill definatly try taunt on gengar
