Hey guys this is Bone Dragon here with my very first RMT. This is my second UU Team that I've created, but the first one was a fail considering that was when I was fairly new to battling. Anyway, without further ado, let's take a look!
At a Glance...
Team Building Process
So when I've made teams in the past, I always forget to put a lead in because I think that they're not important (which I now realize they are), and next thing you know, I have a full team made, but no lead. So this time, I decided to start making my team with a lead. I wanted to use Fake Out, and Ambipom has the most powerful Fake Out in the game, so my first member was set.
Since Ambipom is so frail, I wanted someone to take all kinds of hits for him, and who else to turn to but my favorite UU wall of all time, Registeel! With his 150 bases defenses and a great devensive typing, it was quite easy to pick him. :)
I next wanted to have a nice special sweeper, and preferrably someone who has good synergy with Registeel. With Mismagius getting Nasty Plot from HG/SS, I decided to go with her. I had created my own bulky-ish sweeper set, and I thought it would work nicely, so tried her out.
I noticed now that I had a fire weakness, so I wanted a nice bulky water type. I have no idea why I chose this poke, there are plenty more bulky than him, but I guess I also wanted it to be able to do some nice damage. I am really considering getting a different poke for this role, but for now, it's Azumarill.
Alright, so I noticed, even though I have no Stealth Rock weakness per se, I thought it would still be a problem for my team since I really have no reliable recovery (so far it has not affected me that much). So I thought of a spinner. I really liked Claydol since he takes little to no damage from entry hazards, and can Shadow Ball any ghosts that try to get in my way. Thus my penultimate member is set!
And here's where I got stuck. I sort of had a team-builder's block. I wanted another special sweeper, but I was not sure who. The day I saw Porygon-Z come down to UU, I knew he was the one.
A Closer Look...
Ambipom(Poke Poke)@Life Orb
Evs: 6 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
Adamant Nature
Ability: Techician
-Fake Out
-Return
-Low Kick
-Payback
Ambipom is an amazing lead. His Fake Out is the most powerful one in the game (who doesn't love free damage?), he has a pretty good attack stat. He has Life Orb to boost his attacks and Technician to boost his lower power moves. Return is nice for a stab attack (I picked it over Double Hit because I prefer the 10% accuracy boost over the 3 base power boost, and I don't really find the need to break subs very often) and Low Kick hits the rocks and steels that like to resist my normal moves (Registeel anyone?). Payback decimates Froslass, who I seem to encounter about 70% of the time, no joke, and any other ghosts who get in my way. Unfortunately, he dies to most attacks, super-effective or not.
Possible Changes...
Payback for Pursuit because I can hit opponents fleeing from Fake Out (which happens a lot) and will still 2HKO Froslass.
I really don't mind Life Orb, because as I said, most attacks OHKO me anyway, and I like the 10% more power.
Registeel(Magnus)@Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP/170 Atk/88 Def
Impish Nature
Ability: Clear Body
-Stealth Rock
-Thunder Wave
-Iron Head
-Earthquake
Ah, how I love this guy. I really don't need that much invested to take hits well, which his attack is so high. Stealth Rock is a staple on every good team, Thunder Wave is so helpful since some of my guys aren't the fastest in the world. Iron Head is for STAB and Earthquake gets good type coverage with it. This guy usually stays around most of the match, and his Thunder Wave is ridiculously helpful. Sometimes I can just sit there, TWave things as they come in, and if they're weaker, just KO them with my attack, and repeat.
Possible Changes:
Stealth Rock (only if I put it on someone else, which I am considering) for Explosion or Ice Punch. Ice Punch would be ridiculously helpful against Venusaur (more on that later) and stuff like that. I'm not a big fan of Explosion because I feel I use it too early and don't wait for when I really need it.
Mismagius(Violet)@Leftovers
EVs: 160 HP/130 SpA/220 Spe
Timid Nature
Ability: Levitate
-Nasty Plot
-Shadow Ball
-Hidden Power [Fighting]
-Thunderbolt
Missy is a beast. She can deal out tons of damage, and take a few hits too. Shadow Ball is for obvious STAB and it gets perfect coverage with HP Fighting. Thunderbolt takes out any bulky waters that wanna get in my way. It was originally Pain Split (which is why I called it a bulky-ish sweeper), but I rarely used it and when I did, it didn't help much. I preferred getting more super-effective hits on pokes to assist my sweep (and I didn't have anything to hit waters for super effective damage. Whoops.). The HP EVs give me a little more bulk, and I don't really need that much investment in SpA since I have Nasty Plot.
Possible Changes...
None, aside from that I changed Pain Split to Thunderbolt
Azumarill(Golden Egg)@Choice Band
EVs: 240 HP/252 Atk/16 Spe
Adamant Nature
Ability: Huge Power
-Aqua Jet
-Waterfall
-Ice Punch
-Double-Edge
Ah, good ol' CB Azumarill, how he dents teams. With Huge Power and a Choice Band, he can punch holes in anything that does resist him. Aqua Jet is a wonderful priority move and Waterfall is just for STAB. Ice Punch gets great coverage with water and Double-Edge is nice to hit bulky waters for neutral damage.
Possible Changes...
None at the moment, though Brick Break or Superpower could be thrown in there, though I haven't ever had the need for them.
Claydol(D0nt P33k!)@Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP/144 Def/114 SpA
Bold Nature
Ability: Levitate
-Rapid Spin
-Shadow Ball
-Psychic
-Earth Power
Claydol is an amazing spinner. Too bad I've only used it like three times. He's usually just under too much pressure, and needs to either finish the opponent off with a real attack, or get the heck out of there. Or sometimes my opponent doesn't even get a chance to set it up (which I suppose is even better). Shadow Ball is to hit spinblockers (2HKOs Rotom, does squat to Missy), Psychic and Earth Power are great STABs. Psychic may now seem that useful, but it is for hitting things like Hitmonlee, Hariyama, and Venusaur (again, more on him later). Earth Power can hit so many things for super effective, its not even funny.
Possible Changes...
Rapid Spin to something else. Like I said, it really doesn't effect my team that much, and I rarely get to use it. I was thinking something like Stealth Rock then I can give Registeel another attack, but I think Registeel is better at getting them up anyway. Really not sure, need help on this.
EDIT: I have changed Claydol for Rotom because I don't need a spinner and Claydol is pretty useless on my team.
Rotom@Choice Specs
EVs: 6 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe
Timid Nature
Ability: Levitate
-Shadow Ball
-Thunderbolt
-Hidden Power [Ice]
-Trick
Thunderbolt really helps against Milotic and Feraligatr, but HP Ice does only about 65% to Venusaur. Maybe I should switch to a different Hidden Power, or just get a new poke altogether.
Porygon-Z(Aflac)@Choice Scarf
EVs: 32HP/252 SpA/224 Spe
Modest Nature
Ability: Adaptability
-Tri Attack
-Hidden Power [Fighting]
-Dark Pulse
-Trick
How I love Scarfed P-Z. Tri Attack combined with max attack and Adaptability will do a number on anything that doesn't resist it. HP Fighting is good for type coverage, as is Dark Pulse. Dark Pulse beats Shadow Ball because it can flinch, and I don't need it to hit Gallade anymore. Trick is just amazing. Pokes come in and think they can wall me, and then they're scarfed. Plus he's pretty fast without it (90 base speed isn't too bad). He doesn't need max speed EVs because with 224 and a scarf, he can outspeed the whole tier (or at least what he needs to outspeed)
Possible Changes...
Maybe changing Trick to another attack move like TBolt or Ice Beam, but I think Trick is more useful.
Threat List
(to be expanded later; I'm not very good at this part)
Feraligatr: Only one I encountered had a Liechi Berry and Sub/DD/Waterfall/Flail and it swept my entire team. I assume other ones will be a problem too. *shrug*
Venusaur: This guy just screws my team over. Especially the new Swords Dance/Power Whip/EQ/Sleep Powder ones. The usual way I take them down is by making good predictions with Azumarill or by TWaving with Registeel and then taking it out with Azumarill or Claydol (Psychic is a 2HKO, good for if it's already weakened). Ice Punch on Registeel would really help with this.
Cresselia: Mainly the Calm Mind ones. Those things sweep my entire team, there's nothing I can do about it. Other ones can be taken down by P-Z or something like that.
Milotic: I can't get much damage on this thing and if I do, it usually just recovers. Azumarill and P-Z can 2HKO if they're locked into Double-Edge or Tri Attack (respectively), but it can still stall me out. Can really dent my team with its high special attack.
Sceptile: The SubSeed set ruins me. The best I can try to do is Trick it, but it usually has a sub up. This guy pretty much sweeps my whole team with SubSeed
So there you have it, my very first RMT. I really hope you guys liked it and please reply, I appreciate all of your constructive criticism! Thank you!
