Hello everyone reading this! My names Twisted Knight and I'm looking for a little help with my team. After a few weeks of playing with this team I feel as though it's lacking in something but I can't figure it out, so here it goes!
So when I first started building my team I had very little luck before it and my record online consisted of 2-25. Getting very frustrated I decided it was time to build a more competitive team that works better together. After a few days of research and trial and error my team was finally put together. After the few weeks of running the team I finally managed to get to 1600 with a record of 58-56. Not perfect but a work in progress. This is what I have!
Gyarados (F) @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate --> mold breaker (mega)
Evs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Hp
Nature: Adamant
- Dragon Dance
- Ice Fang
- Waterfall
- Earthquake
My team was first created with the all mighty Gyarados. Gyarados just seemed like such a solid counter to the most used pokemon online and my biggest problem the Talonflame. Also having the mega gives me an advantage to making my opponent over predict the mega and go for a resisted u-turn or some common fighting type moves they might carry. Using Ice Fang gives me the chance to OHKO dragon and ground types such as Dragonite and the very used Garchomp. It also hits Venusaur and other grass types for a decent amount. Earthquake with Mold Breaker destroys Gengar and deals good damage to others. Waterfall is her amazing STAB move that can flinch and does so much damage. Also after a few turns of not mega it gives me the advantage of them bringing in an electric type move which takes me to my next pokemon Jolteon.
Sparky (Jolteon) (M) @ choice specs
Ability: Volt Absorb
Evs: 252 Spatk / 252 Spe / 4 Hp
Nature: Modest
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Signal Beam
- Hidden Power (Ice)
Jolteon and Gyarados just feels so natural to me. When I can force the electric moves with Gyarados it allows me to switch to Jolteon to just absorb it. Jolteon also out speeds most of the pokemon it runs up against and can take a hit pretty well. Volt Switch gives me a quick hit and run move that deals STAB damage. Thunderbolt is the STAB move that Jolteon lives by, anything that isn't immune from electric types take a good amount of damage from this. Signal Beam was put here to give me coverage against odd match ups if I cannot switch out like Venusaur, Alakazam, and Cresselia. HP Ice allows me to hit the Garchomp that loves to switch into Jolteon. It also covers Dragonite and ground types that try to do the same thing.
Nidoking (M) @ life orb
Ability: Sheer Force
Evs: 252 Spatk / 252 Spe / 4 Hp
Nature: Modest
- Earth Power
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Fire Blast
Nidoking adds protection from the toxic and thunder waves that are fairly detectable, and even getting hit by a Willow Wisp doesn't take away because I kept him as a special attacker. With his ability to take the electric types and a wide moveset he can force a switch and potentially get a OHKO out of it. Earth Power is an incredible STAB that can hurt anything that doesn't fly or stay off the ground, giving way to predict the flying types someone may have which is why I added Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt can hit the weaknesses that Nidoking has that Earth Power doesn't already cover. Ice Beam is packed for the extra coverage on dragons and flying types that might want to try and set up or switch into Nidoking. Fire Blast in the last slot was put here because of a lack of fire type in my party honestly, and with Scizor running around I decided it would be a good last slot move. Also with his weakness to ground also being around Gyarados can switch in to take the earthquake and force a switch or go for a finishing blow.
Skarmory (F) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
Evs: 252 Def / 252 Hp / 4 Spdef
Nature: Impish
- Roost
- Whirlwind
- Brave Bird
- Stealth Rocks
Skarmory was added not only for the second coverage on earthquake but he also has the rocks set up, and with a rocky helmet attached a mega kangaskhan will take serious damage when hitting it. Other physical attackers are walled by Skarmory and just take damage from the helmet. Brave Bird is the STAB move that can deal a good amount of damage to just about anything that doesn't resist flying, and keeps Skarmory from being Taunted into a switch out. It also doesn't have much to throw back. Whirlwind keeps the set up away, and gives extra Steal Rocks damage.
Breloom (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Technician
Evs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Hp
Nature: Adamant
- Bullet Seed
- Spore
- Mach Punch
- Stone Edge
Breloom is one tough pokemon. He likes to dish out a technician Mach punch or go for a spore when the other person doesn't have any grass pokemon left. Breloom deals a heck of a lot of damage to most of the pokemon that people bring. Bullet Seed is in my opinion an amazing move for when your opponent has a ghost type and you fear the switch in because when it can hit all 5 the damage can be more than enough to make them regret the switch. In the last slot Stone Edge can take out the complete check Talonflame and other flying and rock types that want to try and get Breloom. He can also take an electric move very well for a good switch in from Gyarados or even a fighting type for when I mega.
Dracula (Gothitelle) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Shadowtag
Evs: 252 Spatk / 252 Spe / 4 Hp
Nature: Modest
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic
- Hidden Power (Fire)
- Trick
The last slot in my team was tough to choose but I decided to put the Shadow Tag Gothitelle in the team. He can trick items away and lock opponents into moves with choice specs and can take a hit pretty well. When used right he can Trick the opponents support pokemon into only being able to do 1 move which can be very useful with klefki and other support types. Psychic is his STAB move that allows him to deal decent damage on what he traps in battle which can include pokemon like slowbro or tangela with regenerator and stop them before they can switch out and keep healing. I added HP Fire for hitting some steel types like Aegislash and Scizor.
Please let me know what you think of my team. I'm open to other pokemon suggestions and other moves. Again this is my first real competitive team so I'll appreciate any feed back. Thanks a lot for reading this and any help you may provide!
