XY OU My First RMT

shellder.gif

Introduction:
As this is my first RMT, there will be some mistakes and I’ll do my best to fix them as the thread goes on. This is also my first competitive OU team; I usually just put teams together randomly and have a couple battles with said teams, so this team might need more than a little improvement. You'll notice there is no team building section, this is because I don't remember enough to make a decent section that I feel would add depth to the rmt.

Little bit about my playstyle:

I tend to play quite offensively with u-turn and volt switch shenanigans to keep pressure on the opponent. That being said, some of my teams tend to be weak to hazards because I switch profusely. My cores are usually constructed of bulky pokemons with attacking potential.

In depth:

Thundurus:

thundurus.gif

T-Dawg (Thundurus) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 92 SpA / 168 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 2 Atk / 30 Def
- Taunt
- Volt Switch
- Thunder Wave
- Hidden Power [Ice]

T-Dawg is my go-to lead with the ability to Volt switch out, taunt to prevent hazards or T-wave if feel the need to. I run the expert belt for added damage (on the super effective hits) without the damage from life orb, paired with HP ice this counter the other Genies and OHKO Garchomp and Salamence. The ev spread is designed to outspeed jolly/timid base 100s with added bulk from the HP evs and the rest was dumped into Sp.Att. for more powerful volt switches. Sadly it gets pretty walled by the likes Quagsire and Mega Venusaur.

Excadrill:

excadrill.gif

Spinny Spin Spin (Excadrill) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Rapid Spin
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide

A pretty standard offensive rapid-spin Excadrill. Originally on the team with a choice scarf and mold breaker for a fast sweeper. I changed the ability and item when I added T-Tar to the team, this was perfect because now the Dragon/Fairy/Steel core is a lot more viable. This is also my fairy killer with a fast stab boosted iron head, as well is dealing with Talonflames (when the sand is up). There isn’t much to say about the evs, being 252 attack and 252 speed for the most speed and power.

Mega-Tyranitar:

tyranitar-mega.gif

Tyranitar @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Pursuit
- Toxic
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock

Tyranitar is one my favourite member of the team because of his sheer power and bulk. T-Tar has a plethora of roles on this team, with pursuit to catch the latioses and latiases when the try to switch out, stealth rocks because with all the switches I pull it forces the opponent to switch as well and who doesn’t like residual damage? Toxic is there for added residual damage and for the mons who like to stall, finally EQ is just there for Heatran. The Evs are yet again 252/252 because I felt a little lazy and I just wanted to maximize his offensive power.

Talonflame:
talonflame.gif

Talonflame @ Life Orb
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 112 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 140 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Overheat
- U-turn

This Talonflame is a mixed-attacking pivot. With overheat to kill Ferrothorns without the recoil/iron barbs/rocky helmet damage, brave bird because stab+gale wings, roost is there to recover damage from rocks when I can force a switch or just recover from the brave bird recoil and last but not least, u-turn is there because it help me maintain offensive pressure or to save my birdie. The evs are to outspeed timid Thunduruses and the rest is in attack and health and 4 is sp.att because overheat.

Dragonite:

dragonite.gif

Dragonite @ Leftovers
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Substitute
- Dragon Claw
- Dragon Dance

The second member of the Dragon/Fairy/Steel core, Dragonite is also a good late game sweeper. With substitute to protect myself while I set up a couple D-Dances and the rest of the moves are just there for stab and priority. Once again evs are just simple 252 attack, 252 speed because that’s what a fast late game sweeper needs. I feel that Dragonite is the most replaceable member of this team although I just have't found a bulky dragon to take his place.

Clefable:

clefable.gif

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
- Moonblast

The final member of the team, Clefable is also the final member of the Dragon/Fairy/Steel core. Clefable is the only pokemon that is dedicated to supporting the team but that’s not the only reason it’s on the team, it’s also on the team because Fairy is one of the best defensive typings in the game and it synergizes quite well with T-Tar. Since it’s immune to any sort of indirect damage, the sandstorm doesn’t affect it nor does toxic and it can swallow any fighting type attacks that would destroy Tyranitar, that being said if T-Tar can poison an pokemon Clefable can come in and wish/protect to stall it out with toxic damage or moonblast for added damage. Heal bell is pretty self-explanatory and Clefable can also pass wishes on to teammates who can’t recover hp on their own.

Threats:
In this section I will include certain pokemon or groups of pokemon that I don't have a reliable way to deal with.

Water & Ground

rotom-wash.gif
,
quagsire-f.gif
,
mamoswine.gif

While playing, I noticed that my team struggles against bulky water types as well as ground types. Especially the three shown above. The answer is quite obvious, I would need to add a grass type. I tried to add Ferro but I didn't know what to replace without losing the replacee's function e.g. If I replace Excadrill, I have no way of getting rid of hazards. Although my Clefable can deal with Quagsire if T-Tar can toxic. The biggest threat to my team is Mamoswine with it's priority Ice shard and decent bulk, it can handle itself against Talonflame's overheat thanks to thick fat and can OHKO with a rockslide/stone edge.

I'm going to start off my suggestions with your mega tyranitar. I think you could utilize mega tyranitar better, so I suggest you change to this:
Tyranitar@tyranitrite
Sandstream
EVs:252 atk 252 spe 4 hp
Natute: jolly/adamant
-dragon dance
-earthquake
-ice punch
-crunch
This is a pretty common tyranitar set, you dragon dance once, then you destroy your opponent. Ice punch will obliterate dragons, crunch is for lati@s and other psychics, and EQ is for everything else. Tyranitar has amazing bulk to start with, so there is no need to invest in it. Now that I mentioned this set, I do not see anything on your team that can counter it, so running superpower on your own ttar might be a good option or going with air balloon on excadrill. As you mentioned that you have trouble with bulky water types, you could switch excadrill for starmie. Aside from rotom-w, not many bulky water types will be able to do much to starmie and starmie has thunderbolt to deal with them. Starmie also has rapid spin and is faster than excadrill when sand is not in play. Also, your dragonite is running substitute, which should be replaced by earthquake or fire punch. This is because sub breaks dragonites multiscale, which is the only reason he is used over other dragons anyway. Your best option would be to ddance with multiscale intact because dragonites lacks the bulk to take hits without multiscale. One last suggestion is that you could run flamethrower on clefable over protect to deal with skarmory and ferrothorn. This also allows you the option to go back to flare blitz on talonflame and regain some bulk with a jolly nature. Hope this helped.

I'm going to start off my suggestions with your mega tyranitar. I think you could utilize mega tyranitar better, so I suggest you change to this:
Tyranitar@tyranitrite
Sandstream
EVs:252 atk 252 spe 4 hp

Mega Ttar should always be jolly no matter what, it needs the speed to outrun a lot of pokes. Stone Edge > Crunch for coverage, the stab is not needed, you hit hard enough already. Move the 4 HP evs to Defense to minimise entry hazard damage. Fire punch is an option over Earthquake if your team needs it.

Change Dragonite's item to a Lum berry to ward off status and replace Substitute with Fire punch or earthquake to avoid being completely walled by any steel type.

Replace Assault Vest on Excadrill to either a Life Orb or Air Balloon.

Nah i think tyranitar is fine. Keep in mind this is not a sweeper tyranitar, more a tank. I might just change pursuit to payback and earthquake to stone-edge to capitalise on his massive attack, otherwise its just a waste giving him a tyranitarite. Defensive heatrans usually carry balloons, and offensive ones wont stay in to t-tar.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I made some pretty drastic changes to the team while maintaining the general feel of the team. I'll do a bunch of testing tonight and post the results of said testing tomorrow.

Major changes to the team:

Made Mega T-Tar a DDance set to still maintain a late game sweeper while still having great bulk & changed Protect to Flamethrower to deal with Ferro+Skarm as WaffleTitan suggested. Kicked Dragonite off the team because I realized Latias was the answer to all my needs, it was bulky enough and still has a good offensive presence.

latias.gif

Latias(F)@Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP/184 SpA/252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
-Recover
-Draco Meteor
-Psychic
-Defog

With the ability to use defog, I could replace Excadrill without losing my only way of getting rid of entry hazards & since T-Tar can now act as a sweeper, I was free to add Ferrothorn to the team.
598.gif

Ferrothorn@Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Atk / 84 Def
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
-Leech Seed
-Gyro Ball
-Power Whip
-Stealth Rock

As mentioned before, with the removal of Dragonite and Excadrill's position being freed up, I could add Ferro to the team. Since T-Tar is now a full on sweeper, I had no way of setting up stealth rocks but now Ferro fills that role as well as helping against stall with his Leech seed and is immune to toxic thanks to his steel typing. He also helps against the bulky water types I mentioned. When I ran Ferro on the earlier version of the team it had lum berry, but I found that I didn't get to use it to ward off a burn that often, and it would get used on a TWave or confusion so I decided to run leftovers for the extra recovery.

So far I'm 7-1 with this version of the team with my rating around 1400.

The team looks pretty good, and I see some of your pokemons are using rare sets, too.

First, running Tyranitar and Multiscale Dragonite in the same team isn't a good idea, since the sandstorm will make Multiscale useless. I think you need to replace Dragonite to something else.
How about running this Kyurem-B? You need something to beat Chansey as well, and this could do.
Kyurem-Black @ Life Orb
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 252 Atk / 56 SpA / 200 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Fusion Bolt
- Ice Beam
- Iron Head
252+ Atk Life Orb Teravolt Kyurem-B Dragon Claw vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 302-356 (47 - 55.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

In my opinion, Latias should only be used on teams that appreciate Healing Wish support. Its defensive defog set is somewhat mediocre, since there are many defoggers those are able to do their jobs. But if it runs offensive, it is outclassed by Latios unless it runs Healing Wish. Since you already have a Wish passer, why don't you run an Offensive Latios with defog?

Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Thunderbolt
- Defog

Come to think of it, having two dragons might not be that great.. You can replace this for some defensive defoggers.

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Impish
Nature
- Leech Seed
- Toxic
- Power Whip
- Stealth Rock
I don't think you need to go offensive for Ferrothorn since the things that you want to beat are already hit pretty hard. Besides, you won't be using Gyro Ball too much since Power Whip usually hits harder.
0 Atk Ferrothorn Power Whip vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire: 396-468 (100.5 - 118.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
People use Ferrothorn for its utility. It doesn't have to hit too hard. You can use Toxic to punish common switch-ins, or you can use Protect instead if you need it.

I think this will be the last update because the team has been working out quite well thanks to all your suggestions :D I have changed Latias for Latios and I'm trying out the Ferro EV spread, but I quite like the extra attack EVs for dealing damage to rotom-w but so far it's done me good.
I would just like to say thanks to everyone for their help :). Time to start my next project of a Kyurem-B & Mega Heracross team.

I say just run LO on your Thundy. Although BoltBeam has perfect neutral coverage it doesn't hit a whole lot super effectively, meaning that most of the time Expert Belt is useless. If you want to still do massive damage, but don't want LO recoil + sandstorm damage, try this:

Code:
Thundurus (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Thunder Wave/Taunt
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]

However, this set is far more offensive and forces you to choose between taunt and t-wave.
