My first shot at stall. :) [OU RMT]

THE TEAM:

Hello Smogon. This would be my first RMT (and post). I've been playing Shoddy Battle for quite some time now. I can play decently, but I think I don't build good teams. In reality, I tend to play aggressively, whether it be Pokemon or any other game. But, I got tired of the same play style over and over again. Thus, I played around with a stall team. I tried it for a around a month and it has performed averagely.

hippowdon.png

Hippowdon@Leftovers
252 HP/168 Def/ 88SpD
Impish
-Earthquake
-Slack Off
-Stealth Rock
-Roar

Hippowdon starts the game nicely by laying down SR and providing constant Sandstorm damage, which breaks the sashes of leads like Azelf, Roserade and Infernape. Slack Off is there to recover any damage dealt to him if ever he survives early game. Earthquake is there to provide him an attacking move that comes with STAB. I opt for Roar is to stack up residual damage and the ability to scout for potential threats. I chose Hippowdon as my lead because its sheer bulk almost ensures it gets the SR down, it initiates Sandstorm and it doesn't mind switching into rocks repeatedly.

rotomheat.png

Rotom-h@Leftovers
252 HP/120 Def/136 SpD
Bold
-Rest
-Sleep Talk
-Discharge
-Will-O-Wisp

My status absorber and spin blocker. It's the typical RestTalk Rotom. Rest
is its main form of recovery. Sleep Talk so it's not entirely useless when asleep. Discharge is Rotom's mode of attacking. Deals solid damage against Starmie and Tentacruel, two very common spinners who would want to spin my entry hazards away. Will-O-Wisp is there to disable Mence, Scizor, Tyranitar and Gyarados who would otherwise present a threat to my team if given the chance to setup.

gliscor.png

Gliscor@Leftovers <Sand Veil>
252 HP/40 Def/216 Spe
Jolly
-Earthquake
-Taunt
-Roost
-U-turn

Gliscor is my insurance against teams who would stall as well. EQ for STAB damage. Taunt shuts down Blissey, Skarmory, Forretress and other defensive Pokemons. Roost is to recover damage and to prolong its survivability. U-turn is there to scout an opponent's team and to maintain the momentum in my favor.

blissey.png

Blissey@Leftovers <Natural Cure>
24 Hp/252 Def/232 SpD
-Wish
-Protect
-Flamethrower
-Toxic

My Special Wall. Wish and Protect works in tandem to keep my favorite Pokemon healthy. Wish can also be passed to teammates in case of emergencies. Flamethrower is there so i have a move when facing Gengar. Toxic is there to spread statuses to flying Pokes who would be otherwise immune to Toxic Spikes. The bad part is is that this set leaves me helpless against Heatran.

skarmory.png

Skarmory@Leftovers <Keen Eye>
252 HP/4 Def/252 SpD
Impish
-Brave Bird
-Roost
-Spikes
-Whirlwind

My Physical Wall, Spiker and PHazer. I went for a more specially defensive spread for Skarmory mainly because it had a hard time against some strong special attackers. Brave Bird is there so I have an option to attack against the likes of Gyarados, who would have a bit of trouble to KO Skarmory, even with 1 DD under its belt. Roost to recover damage. Spikes is there for the ever so useful residual damage it brings when I force switches. Whirlwind is there for PHazing reasons.

tentacruel.png

Tentacruel@Leftovers <Liquid Ooze>
252 HP/120 Def/136 SpD
Calm
-Toxic Spikes
-Rapid Spin
-HP Electric
-Surf

My spinner, my ToxicSpiker, and it absorbs Toxic Spikes that are laid on my field as well. Toxic Spikes to quickly stall my opponents. It also helps aganist opposing stall. Rapid Spin to keep my field clear. HP Electric and Surf are my attacking options. Tentacruel also does well against Special moves.

I am very open to any suggestion that will make my team better. I will try out most of the suggestions as a sign of courtesy to the people who bothered to help me out and rate my team. :) THANK YOU!

If i were you i would'nt use stall in this metagame, in my experience it just doesnt work as well there are far too many trickers, LO and Salamences, bulky offense seems like a much better path to go down. Of couse if your name is IPl than you use stall and against all odds win.

Anyway on to the team. This team like other stall teams has a lot of problems but hopefully i can alleviate some of these in my rate. The main problem i see is with CM Wish Jirachi and Crocune or just CM rest variant. Although skarmory phazes the latter to some extent they will likely have the support or the momentum to mitigate this.

Gliscor is currently your anti stall pokemon but it also has a similar role interms of what it counters to Hippowdon and Skarmory. For these reason i suggest you use to help you with Suicune in particular as well as Jirachi a Cradily. Cradily with SS support turns into a monster special wall who can easily stop dead all attemps of a Crocune. It also has the wonderful suction cups so it makes the perfect anti stall pokemon as it is impervious to PHazing. This is the set i suggest you use:

Cradily @ Leftovers
Careful
252hp/252sp.def/4def
Curse/Swords Dance
Rock Slide
Seed Bomd/EQ
Recover

Ive seen this used to great success on stall teams and i urge you try it in place of gliscor. Depending on what you find more of a set use EQ or Seed Bomb, i reccomend EQ as it proveds excellent coverage with Rock moves but the choice is yours.

And now for a couple of nitpicks. Rotom needs a set chage.

This is what i propose:

Rotom-h@Leftovers
252 HP/252 Def/
Bold
-Rest
-Sleep Talk
-Thunderbolt
-Reflect

Rotom needs all the defense it can get you already have Blissey and now Cradily to do special walling leave this to them. Thunderbolt's extra damage is simply more useful when you are trying to whittle the opponent down. You should definitely consider it over dicharge which half the time wont paralyze as you'll have Toxic Spikes out anyway. Finally Refect over Will O Wisp for similar reasons, and of course it can't miss.

Blissey. Use Seismic Toss over Flamethrower the reliabilty is a must. WHen you look at it flamethrower isnt that helpful it hits basically just Scizor and Lucario which you both have answers for. It also hits Gengar which Cradily laughs at so overall i think this chage is well worth making.

Tentacruel is a pretty awful pokemon and it defintely wont be doing much spinning. If you do use it consider using rest over HP electric just to keep it alive and therefore continue stalling with toxic. Again I've seen the effectiveness of this on numerous occasions.

I hope this helps and look forward to any feedback you have.

Quite good stall team.
You can keep your moves on blissey ,Flamethrower will hit gengar and steel switchins as well as breloom hard. Toxic will handle most CMers.
On tentacruel you should use Black Sludge over Leftovers because It has the same effect for you but your opponent won't like to be tricked a Sludge. Thus Tenta can be your Trick absorber. You should also drop HP electric because most Gyara carry Earthquake anyway. You could use Sludge Bomb to get a poison or Knock off. Knock off will get rid of scarfs of ghost switch ins and so they won't be able to trick it to you. Also some sweepers become much less threatening without their choice band or life orb.
I would consider changing Discharge to Thunderbolt on Rotom because it always ohkos even bulky gyarados and just packs more power. If you like the Paralysis, you can also keep Discharge.
The rest is fine I think.
Good team. Good Luck with it.

@iKitsune - Thanks. :) I have tried out the Cradily set. It works fine.. Around the same level of success as my Gliscor. I've heard of Bulky Offense but never really tried it out. What are Pokemons that are good in that kind of team?

@LFC Rulez - Will change Discharge and HP Electric. Thanks! :)

You will love to try RestTalk Cradily with Curse,It is very hard to take down with SS support. Here is the set:

346.png

Cradily @Leftovers
Ability:Suction Cups
252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Def
Nature:Careful
-Rest
-Sleep Talk
-Curse
-Rock Slide

In sandstorm,Cradily reach a sky high special defence of 516 and with it's unique ability suction cups,It cannot be phazed,It can defeated by haze and encore but hey who use that in OU (we were talking about pokes such as milotic and clefable here). You can alternate between curse and rest until you reach +6 and then sweep.I have tested this once and it can even turn 4-1 into 0-1.
Btw I think you don't really need Tentacruel suppor because most of your team don't mind entry hazard,so I recommend replace it with Scarflatias, this is because your team seems to have no answer to DDmence or Mixmence (DDmence carry Fire Blast so Skarm can't do much) and Scarflatias can KO with Draco Meteor,It's also your answer to almost all kind of DD pokes and with trick, can help you beat stall

380.png

Latias @Choice Scarf
Ability:Levitate
252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Nature:Timid
-Draco Meteor
-Thunderbolt
-Surf
-Trick

Hope this helped,GL! :)

Did you test out my other suggestions? If so how did they work for you?

Typically Bulky offense consists of either a toxic spiker or a spiker, Roserade or Forry/Skarmory. Then if toxic spikes is chosen pokemon like CM Suicune is used CM Jirachi. If Spikes is used then anything from DD Salamence to LO Heatran, both usually have TTar for SS and its defensive capability. These are not concrete rules merely examples of what I have seen used. The main difference between this and stall is that it can put pressure on the opponent whereas stall, particuarly against good players is just set up bait. I could go into more detail but your best bet is to look in the RMT archive, RMT forum itself and practise playing it yourself.

Stall can work, it works especially well in the lower ratings but you will have a rough time at the top in my experience.

Edit: @ZapdosBlitz He needs tentacruel for Toxic Spikes and his team needs its absorptive capabilities if the afforementioned threat is used against it. Whatever team you play with Salamence is always a threat. The best bet for stall is just to play around it. DD Mence is somewhat checked by the combination of Hippow and Skarm who can Phaze it until it is too weak. MixMence is actually quite nicely countered by Cradily who can Rock Slide it and shrug off DM. Finally your Cradily set does not give him a counter to Jirachi a pokemon who could really trouble him yes it is cool but its not going to be as effective.

You will love to try RestTalk Cradily with Curse,It is very hard to take down with SS support. Here is the set:

346.png

Cradily @Leftovers
Ability:Suction Cups
252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Def
Nature:Careful
-Rest
-Sleep Talk
-Curse
-Rock Slide

I'd suggest this but have Seed Bomb instead of Curse.

I'd suggest this but have Seed Bomb instead of Curse.

With Seed Bomb, Cradily is set-up bait. Curse allows Cradily to set up opposite other stat-uppers if need be, hit things hard with Rock Slide, and improve its defense for stalling. Curse is the whole point of CroDily.

Magnezone + CroCune = Game Over

Once Magnezone takes out Skarmory CroCune can set up on any one your pokemon except possibly Rotom-H and sweep you. I suggest giving Skarmory a Shed Bell instead of Leftovers. With his high Defense you don't have to worry about taking that much damage and you already have Roost as well. With Shed Bell you can escape from Magnezone and go to Blissey getting a wish up or Toxic on the switch ruining whatever pokemon comes out next.

I am not the "Master of Stall", But I do see a few things that can be added to help your team.

Skarmory is your team's only Steel type. This means that you have only one Dragon Resist. However, you chose to forgo Shed Shell in place of Leftovers on Skarmory. This means that whenever a Magnezone (9.94% appearance rate) comes along, Skarmory will be good as dead. Now, with Skarmory gone, Salamence will become a major threat, the only Pokemon who can survive a +1 Lo Jolly Outrage is Hippowdon. Now, there are two things you can do to amend this threat. If you enjoy the recovery that Leftovers brings you, You should consider changing Hippowdon's Earthquake to Ice Fang. This will help you deal with both Salamence and Lead Gligar, who will taunt you and otherwise make your life miserable. Or, you could change Leftovers to Shed Shell on Skarmory, allowing him to escape from Magnezone's clasp. If you do this, consider changing Brave Bird to Drill Peck to conserve HP.
