My first shot at this: Please RMT

Well, a few weeks ago, I got really bored and stumbled back to pokemon for a bit, so I thought I would try my hand at the competetive scene, something I have never done in any pokemon game before. So, with the help of Smogon and Serebii, I came up with a team (and I hope you guys don't mind if its not too original, I'm just testing the waters):

Ninjask @ Focus Band
Nature: Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
Ability: Speed Boost

Moveset:
>Substitute
>Baton Pass
>Swords Dance
>Aerial Ace

EVs: 176 HP / 252 Atk / 80 Spe

He's in here to scout out their starter and Baton Pass the Speed Boosts and Swords Dances to Tyranitar. Aerial Ace works if I want to switch him in to take out Heracross (I know its not much of a counter, but its something).

Tyranitar @ Life Orb
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SpA)
Ability: Sand Stream

Moveset:
>Dragon Dance
>Earthquake
>Stone Edge
>Taunt

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

My main physical sweeper, Dragon Dance makes it an easier job, Stone Edge for STAB and Taunt to keep him from being statused. Pretty much the basic set. He also sets up sandstorm.

Lucario @ Choice Specs
Nature: Modest (+SpA, -Atk)
Ability: Inner Focus

Moveset:
>Aura Shpere
>Vacuum Wave
>Dragon Pulse
>Shadow Ball / Dark Pulse (I am really not sure which, any opinions?)

EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

For some reason I really like the appeal of Lucario as a special sweeper, so I'm going to try it out. I know that Steadfast is just a tad better than Inner Focus, but it took me forever just to get a Modest one, so thats how its gonna stay. I'm in between on Shadow Ball and Dark Pulse, not sure if I need flinching or better coverage of Heracross.

Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Nature: Impish (+Def, -SpA)
Ability: Sand Stream

Moveset:
>Earthquake
>Ice Fang
>Roar
>Slack Off

EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe

My Physical Wall, really appeals to me, too. As far as I know it takes hits like a pro, and can also sets up sandstorm for me.

Milotic @ Leftovers
Nature: Modest (+SpA, -Atk)
Ability: Marvel Scale

Moveset:
>Surf
>Ice Beam
>Rest
>Sleep Talk

EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 SpA

My Special Wall. I like Rest + Sleep Talk better than Hypnosis + Recover for her because of Marvel Scale, and that it absorbs sleep for sleep clause. I like convenient things like that, and it seems to be a better wall that way.

Foretress @ Shed Shell
Nature: Relaxed
Ability: Sturdy

Moveset:
>Explosion (was always on there, just typo)
>Rapid Spin
>Gyro Ball
>Spikes / Stealth Rock (also not sure about this)

EVs: 252 HP / 162 Atk / 96 Def

My Spiker (or Stealth Rocker). Pretty standard, spikes, Gyro Balls if he needs to, and explodes when he is in trouble. I'm not sure what to go with, they seem pretty much the same (except Stealth Rock kills flying better). Also is it better to stack spikes the three times or just once?

Also, I plan on raising a Garchomp as another Physical Sweeper, and if anything doesn't work out on this team I could swap him in.

Garchomp @ Life Orb
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Sand Veil

Moveset:
>Swords Dance
>Earthquake
>Dargon Claw
>Fire Fang

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

Fits right into the sandstorm theme with Sand Veil, and so I have heard is a fearsome sweeper. I considered using Brightpowder for him, but I would rather be notorious for other things besides using a cheap item.

None of these are set in stone, and save Ninjask (who is lvl 26) and Foretress (still trying to breed a Relaxed one) they are level one or two for now, so changes can be made easily. And... I don't mind at all if you tear me apart, it can only help me learn!

Thanks for reading!

I honestly don't like the Ninjask there. The last thing you want is more chances for Skarmory to annoy you as a whole. What I'd rather do is switch off the team to make it more balanced (and OU).

First off, we can use Bronzong in that Ninjask slot. The sleep is always useful, as well as having a sturdy Garchomp counter as well, as you can never have too many of those. Stealth Rock on here would be fine.

We'll keep Hippowdon and Milotic as the respective walls, and Garchomp as the main sweeper, next to Lucario. Now we're going to have some harmful Zapdos problems, so sadly, the best way we could go here is Blissey jsut to cover that, and every other special attacker, since Azelf and Togekiss and the likes could be ridiculously annoying.

I'd also probably slap Hidden Power Electric over Ice Beam on Milotic instead, as you'll have Bronzong+Hippowdon to help out with Garchomp enough, but not really any Gyarados counters.

Ninjask doesn't need fovus sash because of Substitute. And its rather pointless if you want to bring him in later. So go with Lefties.

I don't see much point of having Hippowdon and T-tar on the same team. Tyranitar is really overrated in my opinion and the DD version isn't so great.

Put Shadow ball on Lucario.

Forrtress needs explosion. Thats all he really has aside from Gyro ball and earthquake. I'd give him Stealth rock (dominates over spikes), gyro ball, explosion, rapid spin. Aside from ninjask, this team isn't very weak to stealth rock, so rapid spin could be switched for something else. So can gyro ball, but a taunt would then mean suicide or a switch.

Sandstorm negates Milotic's leftover recovery so Recover might be a little helpful and it gives you a gaurantee hit (unlike sleeptalk, where you could accidentally use rest). Its not a big deal though.

Switch T-tar with grachomp. He's way better. You may want to consider switching fire fang with fireblast just to easily kill those skarmory, but with life orb, you may be able to 2HKO them.

Mixnape will kill your team if it has HP Ice. Scarfchomp is a notable counter, but then you loose garchomp's ability to freely attack and easily counter skarmory.

Would Tyranitar work better Choice Banded? Replacing Taunt and Dragon Dance with Crunch and Pursuit? The reason I even say this is because he is by far my favorite pokemon.

So Bronzong over Ninjask as a lead, how about a moveset like this:

dpmfa437.png

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Nature: Sassy
Ability: Levitate

Moveset:
>Stealth Rock
>Hypnosis
>Explosion
>Light Screen

EVs: 252 HP / 128 Atk / 128 SpD

But I wonder if I would even need Foretress, since this would set up Stealth Rock, and my team really doesn't need Rapid Spin (as FlygonRuler said). If I don't need him I could use Garchomp and Tyranitar, or like you said possibly Blissey.

I also am looking into Dusknoir, it seems he has pretty high defenses, and Pain Split seems awesome...

Yeah, IMO, not EVERY team needs Garchomp in it. CB Tyranitar would be pretty good, Pursuit is so useful, and his enourmous special defense helps him get in a few times.

Seeing as you want Milotic instead of Blissey in here, I think the Careful Tyranitar EV spread would be better for you. Being able to remove non HP Fighting Azelf/Porygon-Z and Gengar would be really useful, as Milotic won't want to be taking boosted Grass Knots and Thunderbolts.

I think you'll be OK with Infernape to be honest. If it has HP Ice, it won't have Nasty Plot, so Milotic can take it on. However, I would give Milotic a bit more special defense... it's not your physical wall, Hippowdon is. I think avoiding a 2HKO from Close Combat is enough.

Yeah im not sure why I didn't think of using CB on Tyranitar until now... And I have nothing against Blissey, I actually like it, just Milotic seemed neat at the time, I have no problem raising a Blissey instead (the Feebas is still sitting at lvl one because I want to refine this team before I raise it, no use in making mistakes).

In a side note, is there any way to make your pokemon have a certain type of HP? I know its based off a long and complicated equation starting with your IVs, but IVs seem pretty random to me, which is why I'm really not bothering with them for this team right now since I am confused by them...
