My First Team After One Round of Tutoring!

During this round, I was only able to have about three mini-lessons with my tutor RB Golbat. However, we were able to conjure up a team and it doesn't seem to be working too poorly. The main idea here is to use Jirachi to set up SR and T-wave, Blissey to drop wishes here and there while walling s-atks, and for the two Spec'd Dragons to nuke things to clear up a sweep for Gallade. Starmie is for spinning, obviously.

Jirachi @ Leftovers ** Chronos
Trait: Serene Grace
EVs: 240 HP / 56 Atk / 76 Def / 136 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Fire Punch
- Iron Head
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave

This little fellow is here to set up stealth rock. Fire Punch is for Scizors that think they can mess with me, and I try to Thunder Wave things as much as possible so that my Choice Pokemon outspeed stuff.

Blissey (F) @ Leftovers ** Kongba
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Def / 80 SAtk / 176 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Protect
- Seismic Toss
- Wish

My really lacks self-recovering moves, so in came Blissey. Seismic toss is for consistent damage to special attackers, and it has a lot more pp than Ice Beam.

Starmie @ Leftovers ** Cosmos
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 160 HP / 40 Def / 216 Spd / 92 SAtk
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Rapid Spin
- Recover
- Surf
- Thunderbolt

Standard spinning set, with Defensive EV investments so that I can switch in more easily on Gyrados. The EV investments also help me take un-stab'd attacks more easily, and recover them off.

Latias (F) @ Choice Specs ** Lily
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Pulse
- Surf
- Trick

Choice Specs user #1. With Trick, I can also screw over unsuspecting Blisseys, which also buys me set up turns, as they will be locked into one move if they try to heal themselves.

Salamence (M) @ Choice Specs ** Baizy
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Spd / 252 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Pulse
- Flamethrower
- Hydro Pump

Choice Specs user #2. The idea here is that after seeing my Latias Choice spec'd, people shouldn't expect this guy to be as well. Especially since they'll be using practically the same moves. There were several instances where i got a surprise ko with Draco Meteor because of this.

Gallade (M) @ Salac Berry ** Blaze
Trait: Steadfast
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 SDef
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Night Slash
- Substitute
- Swords Dance

The pokemon that I TRIED to build my team around. I've always liked Gallade, and it looks pretty badass too :) Originally, I had a choice band on this, but felt that having three choice'd pokemon was a bit of an overkill. Thus I switched to the sub/salac version. I try to switch this in after i've taken out things like zapdos that resist my stab move, usually by predicting a special tank switch-in using one of my choice-spec'd pokemon.

Your team has a huge problem with Blissey. It walls all of your Pokemon, bar Gallade and he is not a great switch in. For starters, you can replace SpecsMence with DD Mence.

Salamence @ Leftovers
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 84 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spe
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Roost / Stone Edge

This can help with Lucario, who can probably take out most of your team if it is Jolly and has Ice Punch. You reach 307 Spe, and with Stone Edge you can take out Zapdos who may be troublesome for Gallade.

Try Stone Edge, instead of Night Slash if you are really worried about Zapdos. You lose coverage on Cressalia, but gain coverage on Zapdos, Salamence, and Gyarados which can be very helpful.

You only have 1 SR weak, 2 resists, and 2 immune to spikes. I don't really think you need Starmie, and it could probably be replaced by something more helpful. For instance, a Gyarados will help against enemy Gyarados and Blissey too.

I suggest standard Gyarados with Leftovers, but I always like to replace Earthquake with Bounce. It is extremely helpful for Celebi, Breloom, etc.

Switching Specsmence for DD mence will help alot (seeing as how Draco meteor gets weaker and weaker as it's used more, making specs not as useful with it.) Your team lacks a real way to deal with opposing dragons (after you've already used draco meteor even 1 time, they will take the hit with 25%+ and then kill you with outrage when they outspeed you.

Try Stone Edge, instead of Night Slash if you are really worried about Zapdos. You lose coverage on Cressalia, but gain coverage on Zapdos, Salamence, and Gyarados which can be very helpful.

Coverage on cress is too helpful to let down. If you switch out starmie to something that covers this, like my swampert does with ice beam and HP elec, then you don't have to replace it, and you can keep your well-needed cress coverage.

You only have 1 SR weak, 2 resists, and 2 immune to spikes. I don't really think you need Starmie, and it could probably be replaced by something more helpful. For instance, a Gyarados will help against enemy Gyarados and Blissey too.

I like this idea of swapping starmie as rapid spin really isn't helpful since most resist and most are immune. since only 1 is weak to SR you don't have to worry alot about spinning them away, because they arern't going to be that bad. Instead of Gyarados, though, put like a swampert with Brick Break (for gay blisseys that come in and attempt to wall.) Ice beam (good coverage for nasty flying/dragon types.) HP Electric (Covers gyara with a 2KO, since it sets up the first turn and gets hammered, then you survive the waterfall, and destroy it afterwards, should you not flinch.)

I suggest standard Gyarados with Leftovers, but I always like to replace Earthquake with Bounce. It is extremely helpful for Celebi, Breloom, etc.

But, with Bounce being a 2-turn move, they always switch, even if they've set up, to a pokemon that resists bounce. They never stay in on it unless they have like mean look passed or something. Bad idea = Yes.

Comments & Changed in Red.

Why Brick Break on Swampert when its Earthquake already dishes out same damage as SE Brick Break? Or do you mean to help with dual screen issues?

Yeah, Brick Break Swampert is a bit pathetic.

I think you'd actually be better off with a MixMence rather than DDMence, as a wall breaker is something you lack. But even with two Choice Specs users, I can see what your game plan might be:

- Latias Tricks Specs to Blissey.
- Switch to Jirachi for the incoming Ice Beam or to scout their next move.
- If you're lucky, you might get a free switch to Gallade so you can set up.
- Jirachi can then Thunder Wave something first.

I think you have a bit of a Weavile weak as well, with no safe switch-in to Night Slash. Jirachi can deal with it for a while, but repeated hits, or a timely critical hit could be costly. But if it's the Swords Dance Life Orb version you may be able to wear it down through its own recoil and Stealth Rock damage.

I don't like your teams lack of priority (or general revenge killing methods) though, as something like Dragon Dance Salamence could eventually have its way with you as well. You rely on Jirachi a lot, and you can probably now see why so many teams carry more than one Steel-type.

Choice Band Scizor could also give you trouble, most people would expect Jirachi to have a way at hurting Scizor, and Scizor will usually U-turn anyway, dealing heavy damage to Jirachi. Starmie is pretty much bait for Scizor to come in and Pursuit, once you can't get rid of Stealth Rock, Scizor can basically power through your sweepers with Bullet Punch. Salamence does have Intimidate, but they'll just switch out after the Attack drop anyway.

So, MixMence. It's your choice as to whether you want to keep Starmie first of all. I agree with the above posters that you don't desperately need Rapid Spin, but it is a help to reduce Scizor's threat to your team (ironically). Both versions of Salamence with mixed offensive move-sets can work for you. Life Orb or Choice Scarf, so I'd suggest taking a look at the analysis and tesing out both in place of SpecsMence to see how you go on.

Are there any Pokémon you do tend to have a lot of trouble with?

I can see the idea of using two specs users as surprise factor, but i can't see how it works.

on mence i suggest another set, heck any set, but this one might work for you:

Salamence @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk/176 Spd/80 SAtk
Naughty nature (+Atk, -SDef)
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Fire Blast
- Hydro Pump

Its a revenge killer, and mix-wall breaker, just gives your team alot of speed.

Hope I helped and good luck with the team =)
