My First Team Ever!

Hello, members of Smogon, I am Westwind. I have been lurking for a while now, and have tried to learn as much as I can. SO far, I have one team. This is only Dream World for one ability. Here it is:

Artisi (Smeargle) (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Own Tempo
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Spore
- Spikes
- U-turn
- Stealth Rock

I am loving this lead so far. He's saved me in a few sticky situations. He has worked in most of the battles that I have had. Spore, to be able to set up with no worries, set-up Spikes and Stealth Rocks, and then Spore when it wakes up for a safe entry for my sweeper. Then, once it is asleep, U-turn in to a sweeper. The standard set for a Smeargle.

Lucky (Blissey) (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Healer
EVs: 80 HP / 176 SDef / 252 Def
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Seismic Toss
- Heal Bell
- Softboiled
- Toxic
During the big team change, I decided that I needed a special wall, as I had Forretress. I switched Chansey to Blissey, because of its massive health, special defense, and ability to hold Leftovers. Lucky heals my team, and can also annoy with Toxic. Seismic Toss is here so that Blissey isn't Taunt bait.

Sir (Serperior) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Contrary
EVs: 20 HP / 252 SAtk / 236 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Leaf Storm
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Hidden Power [Ice]

I love this guy. Serpirior is one of the best starters in the game, with Contrary. It turns the usually hindering Leaf Storm into on of the best moves. It raises his Special Attack to insanely huge levels, meaning that he doesn't need a boosting move. I use Leech Seed to heal him, and then set up a Sub. Anything that resists Leaf Storm will have to take a Hidden Power Ice.

Terror (Heatran) @ Life Orb
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 HP / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Flame Charge
- Earth Power
- Dragon Pulse

Put simply, I love Heatran. It pretty much destroys all of Serpirior's counters. Steel types? Meet Heatran's Fire Blast. Flame Charge to take out Focus Sashers, and to raise Heatran's sub-par speed. Earth Power and Dragon Pulse are for coverage. Over the short time I have used him, I have learned that he is a complete beast.

Techtive (Forretress) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Atk / 144 Def
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Gyro Ball
- Explosion

Forettress, that odd looking bagworm that walls the crap out of any physical attacker. Toxic Spikes is to poison, and Rapid Spin is to clear the way for Serpirior. He has Gyro Ball to make use of his decent attack, Steel typing, and his terrible speed. Explosion is to go out with a bang.

Trixie (Whimsicott) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 12 HP / 248 Def / 248 SDef
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Taunt
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Encore

Whimsicott's only role in my team is to annoy the other team. Taunt to not let them set up, and she uses Leech Seed and Substitute to stall out. Encore to supply even more annoyence.

Well, that is my team. Please criticise, but remember that this is my first team. Thanks!

It looks pretty good, but you seem to have a large reliance on boosting moves. Try not to rely to much on boosting moves, or else you might get screwed by taunt or haze like I have before. Also, I suggest replacing your Chansey's refresh with softboiled, since heal bell can do the same thing as refresh.

The biggest issue I have with this team is it tends to leaning towards a hyper offensive strategy but with a few support Pokemon thrown in for what is supposed to be good measure. If I were you, I would look at which of your sweepers you believe to be most effective and the design the rest of the team around eliminating it's counters.

Some of your sets don't make a huge deal of sense as well. Dragon is obviously good for coverage, but when Fighting/Dark offers very little in the way of hard counters, why is Scrafty not running Fighting STAB?

I understand that this is your first team so it may be worth having a look at some good 5th Gen teams and seeing what sort of strategies are working in the current metagame. Borrow a successful team and get a handle on what works and what doesn't.
