Hello everyone, I'm going to get Pokemon X soon, and I'd like to build a competitive OU team. I've played Pokemon before, but I never played competitively, so this is my first team.
First of all, I have to say that I don't like playing legendaries, so I built my team without them.
Tyranitar @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Stone Edge
- Payback
Tyranitar is one of the Pokemon this team is based on. In my battles on Pokemon Showdown, I usually use him as a lead, setting up Stealth Rock early and possibly forcing a switch. Toxic is there for defensive Pokemon who cannot do much to a Special Defensive Tyranitar. Payback is great for killing Latios and other Psychic Pokemon who don't expect that much damage from a Defensive Tyranitar.
Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Synthesis
- Leech Seed
Mega Venusaur is the other wall of this team. He can survive very well against Physical Attackers using Leech Seed and Synthesis. He's also the best Pokemon in this team against Fairies, as he can drain their life with Leech Seed and then kill them with Sludge Bomb. However, I had problems against Clefable, as she was almost unkillable after two Calm Minds using Soft-Boiled.
Talonflame @ Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Steel Wing
Really good Physical Sweeper, can OHKO any Pokemon weak to Fire and Flying. U-Turn is there for scouting (I use Talonflame as a Lead sometimes) and for predicted counters (Tyranitar). Steel Wing is good to kill Fairies, as it's the only SuperEffective move in my team besides Sludge Bomb.
Starmie @ Life Orb
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Rapid Spin
Having Talonflame, I needed a Rapid Spinner, and I choose Starmie because of it's excellent coverage and the ability to sweep with Hydro Pump. Good Pokemon overall, but it can be easily killed if hit by a priority move. I use Thunderbolt instead of Psyshock for coverage, as I have Psychic STAB move on Alakazam.
Alakazam @ Focus Sash
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Thunder Wave
I choose Alakazam because I needed a Revenge Killer. He has good coverage and can support the team using Thunder Wave on a fast Pokemon to let the others outspeed it. I use Focus Blast because I don't have a single Fighting move in my team, and it has performed well for now, being a viable option for killing Steel types like Heatran.
Garchomp @ Lum Berry
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Fang
Garchomp is my Wallbreaker. He can set up his Dragon Dance and OHKO-2HKO most Pokemon in OU. I've chosen Dragon Claw over Outrage because I didn't want to get walled by Fairy Types without the possibility to switch out. Fire Fang is good for Ferrothorn and Skarmory if Talonflame has been taken down or if Stealth Rock is up and I can't remove it safely.
Since this is my first team, I'd like to read every possible suggestion to make it work better. You can even tell me that I don't know anything about this game and that I built a really bad team, I'm here to learn and I'll accept every comment in order to improve my teambuilding skill and my knowledge.
