ORAS Ubers My First Team - Sweeps for Days!

Hi all

So I've finally decided to try this EV training, competitive malarkey, and just wanted some insight from you fellow Pokéfans. Any constructive criticism will be taken on board and any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind that I'm a relatively new Pokémon player and have only just started learning about EV training, breeding etc.

gengar-mega.gif

Mega Gengar @ Gengarite
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 252 S.Atk / 252 SpD / 4 HP
Hasty Nature
- Dazzling Gleam
- Sludge Bomb
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball

My special sweeper. Amazing speed and special attack make it very hard to survive a hit from a STAB Sludge Bomb or Shadow Ball. My main reason for choosing Gengar is his sweeping capability and the fact that he can OHKO most squishies. I use him mainly to clear or take care of those pesky fairies with Sludge Bomb. (I've tried to teach Sludge Wave to him but it says Unable. This however, says that he can learn it. Can anybody shed some light on the subject please?)

garchomp-f.gif

Garchomp @ Life Orb
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 SpD / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance

My physical sweeper (and my favourite Pokémon). In nearly every battle I've done so far, Garchomp has been the one to win it for me. 1 Sword Dance and I can wave bye bye to even the tankiest of Pokémon with an Outrage or Earthquake. Iron Head is for the fairies of course (gotta have some defence against the buggers). I usually send Chompy out when I know I can safely Sword Dance and set up for an easy sweep.

milotic.gif

Milotic @ Leftovers
Ability: Competitive
EVs: 252 Def / 126 HP / 126 S.Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Toxic
- Recover

My wall/staller. I love my Milotic for one reason, it can tank whatever comes its way. Scald can destroy any physical attacks that it comes across and Ice Beam can destroy dragons, even with it's fairly low special attack. Toxic is for taking out the opponents walls and just generally annoying them. I usually send out my Milotic when I can easily predict what attack is coming next, switch out to Milotic, absorb the blow and inflict it with status problems.

greninja.gif

Greninja @ Focus Sash
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 S.Atk / 252 SpD / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Spikes
- Scald
- Dark Pulse
- Extrasensory

99% of the time, this will be the Pokémon I start out with, for obvious reasons. Spikes gets rid of any Focus Sash users and it just generally good for disrusping the enemies switches. I took Scald over Hydro Pump for reliability and the burn chance. Dark Pulse and Extrasensory are for coverage and with Protean they all do decent damage. Dark Pulse's flinch has saved me a number of times and it's amazing speed ensures I can get at least 1 attack in after using Spikes (thanks to the Focus Sash as well).

breloom.gif

Breloom @ Quick Claw
Ability: Effect Spore
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 SpD / 4 HP
Jolly Nature
- Sky Uppercut
- Seed Bomb
- Spore
- Leech Seed

I wasn't at all sure whether I should use Breloom in my party but after a Spore/Leech Seed combo, it can be very good to annoy the opponent and sleep the sweepers. Sky Uppercut and Seed Bomb are for coverage and have great STAB damage. I don't always need to use him but if I do, I'll send him out to sleep the enemy and deal some good damage. Quick Claw is a bit of a gamble but it really works out when it activates. Effect Spore just gives me an even better change to inflict status problems :D
staraptor.gif

Staraptor @ Choice Band
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 SpD / 4 HP
Lonely Nature
- Brave Bird
- Giga Impact
- Close Combat
- U-Turn

Ah Staraptor. My favourite bird Pokémon, and an amazing sweeper. Brave Bird and Giga Impact deal HUGE damage with the Choice Band and STAB damage. Close Combat also does high damage with U-Turn being used for scouting or if I find myself in an unfavorable match-up when sent out. I mainly use Staraptor for taking out Pokémon that are good against my other sweepers, such as Mega-Sableye and Bisharp.

Well that's that. I hope I adhered to all of the RMT rules properly and I hope to hear from you guys soon :D

Well this team isn't viable in Ubers at all. :(
I can't really think of a better way to put that. Gengar is the only viable Pokemon on your team (Maybe chomp and ninja too, but in ubers they function far differently than in OU) and even then, its moveset is subpar. I couldn't really rate this without completely redoing the team, and honestly it would be easier to start from scratch after having explored some more of the Ubers metagame.
Glad to see you're getting into the metagame though!
I'd recommend checking out the Ubers subforum for more information, as well as dropping by the Ubers room on Pokemon Showdown!
If you need any ideas or starting points, feel free to shoot me a PM.
I wish you well in your future endeavors!

EDIT: HERE'S SOME TIPS FOR YOU TO CONSIDER

Greninja runs exclusively a Toxic Spikes Lead set in Ubers, as the offensive set simply doesn't hold up. Greninja got banned from OU for bering a versatile attacker with attack equal to Deoxys-Attack.
The problem with using offensive Greninja in Ubers is that you're using him in the tier that DEOXYS-ATTACK is in, which boasts higher damage with Psycho boost than greninja ever could, and also has priority in extremespeed, making it a very versatile attacker that almost nothing can safely switch into.

Ho-Oh is your best bet for an offensive flying-type sans Mega salamence. I'd definitely use it before any other bird, and not only is it a phenomenal Choice Band user, it can also afford to make room on its moveset for Sleep Talk, which lets you pivot into Darkrai and then fire away at it with Choice Branded brave Birds and Sacred Fires.

Big threats to the metagame include Primal Groudon, Extreme Speed Arceus, Mega Salamence, and Xerneas, and generally teams should have an answer to each of these things.

If you're really interested in trying out Mega Gengar, i would look into a "TrapTurn team" by pairing it with a Pokemon like Landorus-T, Yveltal or Zekrom (yveltal is the best one for the job) which utilizes U-Turn to safely bring in Mega gengar against pokemon that Gengar can trap and beat 1v1.

First, I would switch out mega gengar's dazzling gleam for destiny bond. Dazzling gleam isn't really needed on mega gengar considering gengar can inflict just almost the same amount of damage with shadow ball or sludge bomb in most cases. If there's ever a pokemon that threatens your team or stacks multiple attack boosters on you, mega gengar could destiny bond and save the entire team.

Typically, garchomp is only used as (an outclassed) mega evolution or as a defensive wall with rocky helmet + rough skin. A better choice for ubers would be a life orb rayquaza. Rayquaza is capable of utterly sweeping entirely unprepared or slow unsashed teams if taken through a surprise switch, but is known to be extremely fragile, as priority tends to kill of rayquaza quickly. Here is a helpful set you could use:

Rayquaza @ Life Orb
Ability: Air Lock
EVs: 252 Atk / 40 SpA / 216 Spe
Naive Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Earthquake
- Dragon Ascent
- Extreme Speed

Milotic also isn't a favorable choice in ubers either, considering it's a UU pokemon and has a relatively low defense stat for a wall. A pokemon that can do similar things (ice beam) and toxic stall other pokemon is lugia. Lugia with multiscale is a persistently annoying wall for most pokemon and is even used at the top ranks of ubers. With whirlwind, lugia also has the capability to set an offensive threat's stats back to zero, something milotic does with haze. Here's a fairly useful set:

Lugia @ Leftovers
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 Spe
Bold Nature
- Roost
- Whirlwind
- Toxic
- Ice Beam

Over staraptor, I'd probably use talonflame since talonflame can do the exact same things starators does but with priority. Staraptor's a pretty slow pokemon and locking it into giga impact isn't the greatest option out there. Since you said staraptor's your favorite bird pokemon, I'll give you two options. One is to keep staraptor, switch giga impact out for double edge, switch its HP EV's for speed EV's, or use talonflame instead. A nice build for talonflame could be used like this:

Talonflame @ Sharp Beak
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Swords Dance
- Roost

For greninja, he's lacking a move to take out grass types and extrasensory isn't the greatest move out there. I highly advise taking out extrasensory for ice beam to a) deal heavy damage on grass types and b) resist grass type damage.

Generally, using pokemon in the uber tier in the ubers metagame will take you a lot further than most OU and other meta teams will, but it's your team and you make the decisions. Good luck ranking up!

Oh god, I thought I'd finally got round all this tier stuff :c So basically, this team isn't viable in any tier because 2 are banned from OU and it's too weak for Ubers?

Thanks for the tips. Question though, how are you supposed to get legendaries with specific EVs/natures if you can't breed them? o:

you don't breed on pokemon showdown

On Pokemon Showdown, everything is basically done for you.
You can choose your natures, EV spreads, moves, and abilities just as if you had bred/Sr'ed them yourself

Wow I feel foolish. I thought it was all done on the DS and I've been breeding my Pokémon for ages to all this xD So everything is done on Showdown?

You just go to the team builder on Pokémon Showdown and put in whatever EV's/IVs you want, and they will automatically adjust :)
