My First Team

Hi guys, I'm new to competitive pokemon and honestly I'm pretty bad at it. I put together this team so that every attack would have something to resist it and that was it. I'm not very good at team synergy and don't know enough of the meta-game to be able to tell if I have bad weaknesses to certain species.

Sylveon @ Light Clay
Ability: Cute Charm
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature ( -Atk, +SDef )
- Yawn
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Psyshock

I use her as a dual screen lead mostly, and also sometimes I bring her out on Outrages, Yawn is there to phaze pokemon trying to setup, Psyshock is rarely useful v_v. Of all my pokemon I feel like Sylveon is the most deadweight, but I don't really know what to replace her with.

Dragonite @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 4HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature ( +Atk, -SAtk )
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Fire Punch
- Roost

Theoretically a setup sweeper, but boy am I bad at preparing sweeps. I use her mostly to take down steels and other dragons. I try not to pull her out until towards the end of the battle when it's easier to sweep but oftentimes everything will already be mostly dead.

Gengar @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature ( +Spd, -Atk )
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power (Fire)

I use her for coverage against.... anything weak to ghost, poison, fighting, or fire. I've found her to be fairly reliable, if a bit frail. Sometimes she just gets killed too easily though. That's probably just me being bad at switch-ins though. I feel like Gengar isn't a good counter even though I keep using her like one.

Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248HP / 252 Atk / 8 SDef
Adamant Nature ( +Atk, -SAtk )
- U-Turn
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
- Quick Attack

I used to play a baton pass team so sometimes I miss being able to Iron Defense and Roost and tank all physical attacks like they were nothing... Quick attack seems like a waste of a move since I in particular never seem to know when a good time to use it would be... But the other moves are cool. Being able to break through special walls is nice though.

Rotom-W @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Hardy Nature ( I guess I forgot to give this guy a nature )
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Rest

Volt Switch and Hydro Pump being my only water type and electric type attacks have proven to be really useful in terms of overall coverage. I guess since I have Volt Switch I should be doing a VoltTurn thing with Scizor? I dunno how that works though. I use Will-O-Wisp to help with people walling me. Rest is nice. I wish I had more pokemon that could heal honestly.

Garchomp @ Garchompite
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 16 Atk / 252 SAtk / 240 Spd
Hasty Nature ( +Spd, -Def )
- Swords Dance
- Draco Meteor
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

Garchomp is a pokemon I added on to deal with electric and rock attacks and for no other reason. As a result I think he's kind of redundant since with Dragonite this gives me two weaknesses to dragon slayers. And I barely ever see rock attackers anyway. Sometimes she's good for getting rid of other Dragons with Draco Meteor, and Stone Edge is my only rock type attack on the team. But I feel like I just switch into her whenever I don't want Dragonite to die yet.

Notes on my team overall from playing:
- It seems kind of bad against stall teams, especially status teams. I can't really tell if that's because I'm inexperienced or if my team is bad.
- It also seems bad against teams with lots of dragons, since the only things I have to hit them with are other dragons.
- Overall my team feels like it has a lot of redundant coverage. I don't really have a good answer for water types, especially ones neutral to Volt Turn, the aforementioned dragons, or psychic types after Gengar goes down (which is usually quickly.) Also sometimes I'll switch into fire types with Rotom, they'll get me with a grass type move and I won't have anything else.

First off, I personally don't like Slyveon as a screen lead but I can see it working. I would recommend replacing Physhock with hyper voice and changing the ablity to pixelate. If you are doing this not on a battle simulator then you can probaly run moonblast and keep cute charm. for scizor I would replace quick attack with knock off since it is a very powerful move that even removes items from your opponents pokemon. Hopefully this helps if you have some other questions feel free to pm me and I will try to answer them.
