ORAS OU My First team

Shooting it straight...good set up or poop?

Note this is a sandstorm team predicated off the sandstorm but also built to survive well without it as I know TTar has many weaknesses and I didnt want to be crippled without my sandbox to play in. My first team I am about to use since I havent played since gen 3 and TTar has always been my fave poke

Leader:
Garchomp/Richard Head- aka tank and chip damage chomp
240 HP/176def/92 speed
Impish nature
Rock helmet
Rough skin

Moveset:
Stealth rock
Toxic
Dragon tail
Earthquake

My leadoff hitter and chip damage machine, I figure since most expect garchomp to be built as a physical blitzer I can use the element of mild surprise to chip a team into oblivion to start a match while he is out by making it so all physical attacks to and from him will double dole rough skin and rock helmet.

By using dragon tail I can easily force a switch out or two into stealth rock to accumulate base 65 damage+STAB+ability and item+stealth rock

Next is Skarmory
252def and HP/4 sp def
Careful nature
Sturdy
Shed shell (to ward off magnezone)

Moveset:
Spikes
Defog
Iron head
Roost

Skarmy is my main wall on this team to act as a buffer to my big weakness to ground and water on a sandstorm team. I include iron head to avoid getting taunt struggled and the rest of his moves are pretty standard.

3rd up and able to switch in at any given moment, the legend, the beast:

TTAR
252 attack/252 speed/ 4 def
Sand stream
Tyranitarite
Adamant nature

Moveset:
Stone edge
Dragon Dance
Pursuit
EQ

Pretty self explanatory: My main mauler who can whip up the sandstorm for my rock and ground guys to hide behind and rack up even more chip damage combined with spikes, stealth rock and garchomps spikey self. Using mega variant to up the ante on attack even more and hopefully get a DD to start sweeping. Also included pursuit over crunch to help counter potential baton passers or ghosts trying to switch out.

Secondary mauler:

Excadrill/Durka Durk (Sandstorm staple)
252 attack/252 speed/4 def
Jolly nature
Air balloon
Sand rush

Moveset:
Swords dance
EQ
Iron head
Rock Slide

Typical TTar pairing, gets sandstorm up and jacks up his special defense and speed to allow him to lay on some heavy physical damage with STAB attacks and gives option to use swords dance on free turns to bump his attack to Uber level when combined with the massive speed boost.

Pivot:
Rotom-w/Washmaballs (sorry ik it isn't forum friendly but thats really what he is named)
252 def/252 HP/4 special D
Levitate
Bold nature
Leftovers

Moveset:
Volt switch
Will-o-wisp
Pain split
Hydro Pump

He works as my pivot into and out of those water and skarmory types that can hurt my team in long run. Levitate allows him to not be super effected like half my team by EQ. Will use to spread status with will-o-wisp and use pain split as needed. He is perfect pivot into my next totally non sandstorm mon.

Lastly my fast firing missile:
Latios
252 speed/252 spec attack/ 4 def
Levitate
Timid nature
Life orb

Moveset:
Roost
Thunderbolt
Psyshock
Draco meteor

Basically my quick pivot with massive special and psyshock to circumvent any special walls. Use life orb to bump up each attack and I plan on pivoting him in and out against my main nemesis: fighting types, water and grass which can all present problems if my ground type sandstormers are in. Thinking about switching roost for hidden power fire if possible considering that he is rather fragile and I am not depending on him lasting long, just to bust out a few massive special attacks although having roost is great for recovery in the sandstorm and with life orb.

Summary:

Hoped to build well rounded team, obviously there is no way to cover EVERY weakness however I do fear scissor as I do not have a great counter to him, which is why I was thinking hidden power fire on latios to make him an all out offensive force. Any critiques are appreciated but TTar is untouchable :p

Have at it!

So my team is perfect? Lol I am really looking forward to input as I missed 4 generations of pokes and I am sure there are counters and other strategeries that I was not thinking of

Just as a preliminary view, your team would appear to be walled by Serperior, as Serperior can do tons of damage to pretty much all your Pokemon. At +2 (after a Leaf Storm basically), Serperior 2HKOs or OHKOs all of your Pokemon, and outspeeds them all, except for Excadrill in the sand (but Excadrill does not OHKO Serperior and is OHKOd by a +2 Leaf Storm). Garchomp is not really necessary because Skarmory can set up SR in addition to spikes, so I would recommend replacing it with Specially Defensive Heatran, although it does give you a large ground weakness besides Skarmory and Rotom.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 188 SpD / 68 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Lava Plume
- Toxic
- Taunt
- Filler (SR if you don't want it on Skarm)

I can do a more in-depth analysis later if you'd like.

Yeah that was the reason I packed latios was to counter grass types with psychic and poss HP fire...serperior has a leg up on skarmory too?
I had really wanted to fit talon flame in somehow but I have been battling offline and like how the team flows so far, but im going through the ever convulted process of signing ups for pokemon accounts left and right all over the internet just to link the stupid user ID in game

Yes, as most variants of Serperior that I've encountered and run carry HP Fire just to hit Steel Types not named Heatran. Serperior can outspeed and possibly OHKO Latios with Dragon Pulse if it is +2 from a Contrary Leaf Storm. I rarely play online just because of the hassle it is to link an account with your game, I usually play on Pokemon Showdown. If you want, I can go super in-depth with your team, but it probably will be the Showdown version of your team and not the Battle Spot one (where perfect Hidden Powers and such are rarer and tiers are not in place), but I'll give it a shot if you'd like :)

Yeah go ahead, I havent played since like 06 so I see these pokes and have no idea what movies they can handle..Mega Lopunny just gave it to me with drain and ice punch spamming in game with the level release. As it is I still cannot login to battle spot, I get all the way to selecting a battle and tells me there is a problem with a poke :( Yet I can trade every single one of them in wonder trade and battle vs selected trainers it makes no sense

Hm seems as if Lopunny is extremely hard to take out, have yet to run into scizor but im wondering what a good counter for these uber fast fighters is

Alright, after doing some research on the Online Battle Spot format, I've found out what I think are the top threats to you're team and some changes that you can make. As requested, I'll leave the Tyranitar set alone.

First off, to help you tank special hits better, and avoid getting swept by Pokemon like Keldeo, I would change out Garchomp for Calm Mind Clefable. CM Clefable allows your team to deal with threats such as Mega-Kangaskhan, Mega-Lopunny, and Mega Salamence, Pokemon who would other wise stop your team right in its tracks. Clefable also walls Pokemon like Keldeo, Manaphy, and can even handle Primal Groudon with the set I've provided. Clefable can also provide valuable Speed control to you're team. Garchomp is replaceable simply because of the fact you have currently Skarmory to take physical hits for you, and set up hazards (but because Battle Spot only allows 3 Pokemon, hazards are a little bit of a waste of turns to set up).

Next, I would strongly recommend replacing Skarmory for Amoonguss. Skamory has its good uses in OU matches, but because Battle Spot only allows 3 Pokemon per match, Amoonguss has more uses than a hazard setter. Besides being able to spam Spore, Amoonguss also gets the phasing move Clear Smog, with can stop set-up sweepers in their tracks. Amoonguss also enjoys the half regenerator core it makes with Rotom. If hazards are extremely important to you, Clefable can run SR. Amoonguss walls Pokemon like Mega-Lopunny, Landorus-T, Azumarill, and other Excadrill.

Per your request, Tyranitar's set stays the same, although there isn't much I would change about it in the first place. Ice Punch can be useful at times, but Talonflame is destroyed by Stone Edge.

Excadrill's set also looks fine, although I find that Life Orb is more useful than Air Balloon. Air Balloon is only really useful for switching into either a choiced Pokemon or really predicting the Earthquake and getting that prediction right. Life Orb + Swords Dance hits extremely hard, and is tough to switch in to.

Rotom-W is a very strong Pokemon in the Battle Spot format, as it can burn a lot of the physical threats such as Mega-Kangaskhan and Mega-Salamence. Pain Split can be useful at times, but I find Protect to be more useful and reliable. Not only does it allow you to stall for more burn damage, it gives you free HP back with Leftovers. Amoonguss appreciated the volt switch that can send it in and the rest of your team appreciates the momentum it provides, such as allowing Tyranitar to set up more Sand once it runs out.

Latios is a wonderful Pokemon to fit onto any team. However, to handle Pokemon like Aegislash and Gardevoir (both Mega and Normal) better, I would run Shadow Ball over Thunderbolt. Shadow Ball also hits Psychic types like Alakazam and other Latis for super-effective damage.

Overall, those are the only changes I would suggest to make your team better, and you don't have to take all (or any) of them into consideration. As long as the battling is fun, its a win in my book. Check out the recommended sets below, and ask me if you have any other questions. Have fun!

If I remember correctly, Pokemon cannot have similar items, so I added a few options for those that can use different items if you think a different Pokemon works better with it.
