Hello everyone and welcome to my first team post. I am very interested to hear what everyone here thinks of my team. Firstly I would like to point out that i am very new to competetive battling, so any advice on making the team better is much appreciated. This is a UU/NU team as from what pokemon I have seen in the tier, these are my favourites. (sorry about no pictures, dont really know how to do this well)
The lead:
Pokemon - Mespirit @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 hp, 252 speed, 252 attack
Nature: Jolly
Moves:
- Trick
- Stealth rock
- Toxic
- U-Turn
This is a similar but slightly different set to what ive seen on smogon, as I like some originality. Basically the idea of this set is too cripple any slow leads you see, or people who are planning on setting up rocks. Stealth rocks is for the switch that the choice scarf will often force. Toxic is on there to break some of those walls who after Mespirit has tricked, thinks they can wall it. Finally U-Turn is there so for one thing a taunter can't ruin me, secondly anything that i dont want to give a scarf to, i can get a quick U-turn to give me the advantage.
The Sweepers
Pokemon - Sceptile @ Life Orb
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 4 hp, 252 speed, 252 Special Attack
Nature: Timid
Moves:
- Leaf Storm
- Dragon pulse
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power Fire
This is the all out special sweeper of the team, dealing massive amounts of damage in just one attack. Leaf Storm is for the powerful STAB and with overgrow, is a force to be reckoned with. Focust blast is also a powerful move for taking out steel and normal types. Dragon pulse is really there for the coverage, and combined with Focus Blast gives perfect neutral coverage. Finally Hidden power fire was more of a filler. I just wanted to see its type and it turned out fire, which can take out many threats if i dont want to rely on focus blast, as it often misses. Also it can help if i use it in a future OU team, against the ever common forretress/scizor. Its high speed also helps revenge killing other worn down enemy pokemon. I chose life orb as I think it can often be better than specs, as i like to change moves, and helps me get into overgrow range.
Pokemon - Primeape @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 4 hp, 252 speed, 252 attack
Nature: Jolly
Moves:
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Earthquae
- U-Turn
The physical sweeper of the team, and often the late game sweeper. He is a great pokemon in my opinion and can do some great damage. First of all If i see a lead which is likely to use a sleep inducing move, it gives his a perfect free switch in due to his ability. The Choice scraf is there as Primeape does lack some speed, and this rectifies the problem. Close combat is there for a powerful punch in STAB form. Stone edge and Earthquake are there for coverage, against flyers/poison types respectively. Finally U-turn is there to make a quick get away if Primeape cant quite handle something.
The Walls / Bulky ones
Pokemon - Arcanine @ Lum Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 192 hp, 64 speed, 252 attack
Nature: Adamant
Moves:
- Overheat
- Extremespeed
- Toxic
- Fire fang
Ok a few things about my Arcanine. I know it has Fire fang instead of the much prefered flare-blitz, but i did not realise it was a breeding move, so for now it has to stay until i breed a new one. It can act as a lead if I dont feel like using Mespirit as one, as it has the capabilities to be a great anti-lead. Overheat is on there for alot of power, as although there is no special attack investment, it can still deal serious damage, to pokemon who are much more physically based such as steelix. Extremespeed is there purely for priority/revenge killing capabilities. Toxic is to were down some walla that i may find harder to counter, and also I have found does a great job at phyching out sucker punch users. Fire fang is there for main STAB move mainly for after overheat has lowered stats. Lum does a great job as you can switch in on a status, and people often like statusing arcanines.
Pokemon - Slowbro @ Leftovers
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 252 hp, 252 defense, 4 special attack
Nature: Bold
Moves:
- Psycic
- Surf
- Calm mind
- Slack off
The idea with slowbro is rather simple, take the physical hits like a champ, and then attempt to set up calm minds to ward off special attackers trying to take advantage of slowbro being alot more physically bulky. Slack off is a great recovery move, especially since often after setting up some calm minds, you will have taken some damage. Slowbros stabs combine to create a perfect neutral coverage, which is pretty good, and they can do serious damage after a calm mind or 2.
Pokemon - Muk @ Black sludge
Ability: Sticky hold
EVs: 252 hp, 152 special defense, 100 attack
Nature: Sassy
Moves:
- Explosion
- Poison Jab
- Payback
- Acid Armour
Ok so we arrive at the specially defensive pile of goo that is known as Muk. The Evs were carefully considered as i wanted Muk to be able to do some sort of damage, whilst keeping alot of Special Bulk. Acid Armour is used as a quick way to sky rocket your defences to make Muk an absolute Beast. Posion jab is you main attacking move using Muks STAB. Payback is there to cover the ghost/psycic type swith ins, who often do well against Muk. Finally Explosion is there to go out with a B00M if all else fails, and pretty much is garuanteed to get the Job done with the extra attack Evs.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
So here is my team =). I would love to know what everyone thinks and how i can improve the team, or if there is any really obvious weakness i seemed to have missed. Also a note, try not to suggest hidden power watever as a suggestion, because i really dont like breeding for hours and hours. Thank you for taking your time to read this.
