VGC My first VGC team

I resentally wanted to start playing VGC with a friend. i started by making this team and i would like some help with it. i've played a bunch of matches with it, changed it up as needed, and i really like it for my playstyle. here is the team and if you would like to help with it i would be very appreciative

Smeargle @ Focus Sash
Ability: Moody
Level: 50
EVs: 244 HP / 12 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Dark Void
- Helping Hand
- Tailwind

This smeargle set is a great lead with my Xerneas and everyone knows why. i dont always lead with it cause it is very predictable however this set i've changed and ended up with this. i have fake out for turn 1 geomancy on xerneas or to kill a sashed mon when down to thier sash. dark void for obvious reasons. helping hand to allow for xerneas or salamence to destroy lives. then tailwind. the reason i don't have something like spiky shield or follow me is because i see myself using tailwind much more.

Xerneas @ Power Herb
Ability: Fairy Aura
Level: 50
EVs: 60 HP / 192 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Geomancy
- Focus Blast
- Dazzling Gleam
- Protect
My Xerneas set is a common lead and works out very well, with my two attacks being focus blast and dazzling gleam i am able to OHKO things like kangaskhan and salamence, and be able to 2HKO things like scizor and have a BP only do about 60%. i dont like having moonblast here because that limits me being able to hit things like ferothorn and i seem to be clicking it alot. i also like max speed so that i outspeed or speed tie other Xerneas

Groudon-Primal @ Red Orb
Ability: Desolate Land
Level: 50
EVs: 204 HP / 196 Atk / 108 Def
Naughty Nature
- Eruption
- Precipice Blades
- Rock Slide
- Protect
This groudon set is working very well for me with great coverage and alot of OHKO's, that eruption can destroy things like Xerneas if groudon is at full health, the precipice blades is a very good stab and also is a very reliable move to click, along with rock slide to hit things such as crobat.

Salamence-Mega @ Salamencite
Ability: Aerilate
Level: 50
EVs: 60 HP / 228 SpA / 220 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Tailwind
- Draco Meteor
- Protect
This Mence set is a very nice mon to use in order to hit threats with a hard hyper voice, set up tailwind, or drop a draco. this set is pretty standard but i like it alot and it does great things for my team

Kangaskhan-Mega @ Kangaskhanite
Ability: Scrappy
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Atk / 36 Def / 220 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Double-Edge
- Sucker Punch
- Ice Punch
Lets face it, kangaskhan is an amazing pokemon. i dont need to explain this set cause it is self explanitory but i will say that i will usually bring either this or salamence to every match.

Whimsicott @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Prankster
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Encore
- Dazzling Gleam
- Tailwind
- Taunt
And just when you thought i was bringing the big six, i accually originally had talonflame here. however i like whimsicott much more in this. whimsicott xerneas is a lead that i like to do for things such as smeargle leads or perish trappers, this whimsicott can shut down alot of teams and does for me. tailwind to speed me up and taunt/encore to destroy other pokemon

Thanks for reading, if you have anything to say please tell me, have a good day.

hi TTrevor
there's not much to say since this looks like standard big 6 with whimsicott over talonflame, but there are some set optimizations that could be made.

honestly, i dislike smeargle on big 6 for a few reasons. for one, it really limits the teambuilding process in my opinion, as you're left struggling to check primal kyogre, have speed control and a trick room check all in one slot. i'd personally run ferrothorn over smeargle since that greatly increases your match up against rayquaza/kyogre (rayogre) teams, which is one of the most reliable and well known answers to big 6. it also gives you a secondary xerneas check, which lifts some weight off of primal groudon. the spread lives 3 water spouts from primal kyogre from full, which is greatly appreciated. i'd run moonblast over focus blast for a few reasons, despite what you said in the description. moonblast provides incredible power on single targets while also not risking any accuracy on steel-types like ferrothorn which provides almost guaranteed damage for a teammate to finish it off. max special attack is almost mandatory on xerneas since it needs as much power as it can get to clean an opposing team between its STABs.

mega salamence seems to have a strange spread, especially when a 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe one fits just fine. i don't see the point in only speed creeping mega rayquaza when the bulk doesnt really accomplish much otherwise.

same with kang, i don't believe 36 defense does anything for it, a 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe spread is fine. it generally prefers low kick over ice punch to hit bulkier steel-types, like dialga and ferrothorn as well as opposing mega kangaskhan harder than its other attacks.

i'd definitely run a faster primal groudon, espeically since you have eruption. max speed puts you at 142 speed, but you can choose to run naive to hit 156 speed, it's all up to you. you can take from defense and hp. (spread of 28 hp/220 atk/4 def/4 spa/252 spe can work)

i'd run worry seed > dazzling gleam on whimsicott here for a couple of reasons. for one, you have eruption on your primal groudon which makes the reset in weather that worry seed gives greatly appreciated. you can also run a more optimal spread of 252 HP / 196 Def / 60 SpD (found from the sample teams thread here). i'd also try a focus sash on it since you want 2 guaranteed moves and whimsicott seldom gets taunted unless there's a thundurus or another whimsicott on the opposition.

that's about all i could muster on this team. hope the changes have helped you. :)
