My n00b Team (Dates back to release of D/P)

This is the team I've had for a couple years now. I've won many battles with it, but I have a feeling it has flaws here and there, so I'd like it to be rated by the experts. Just to let you know, my original strategy back then was every man/woman/thing for him/her/itself, so that may be the reason why my team doesn't have great synergy.

Electivire "All-out Suicide Starter" (♂)
Adamant @ Muscle Band/Expert Belt
Ability: Motor Drive (No DUH!!)
252 Attack/252 Speed/ 6 HP
-Earthquake
-Ice Punch
-Fire Punch
-Thunder Punch

Ah, the common staple Electivire. I decided to throw Fire Punch in there to hit Pokémon like Scizor and Heracross harder. Of course, without Cross Chop, that leaves me with nothing to annihilate Blissey, Snorlax and other Normal and Dark types, so I know there's a problem there. I also chose Muscle Band for those times when I can't land a super effective hit on a Pokémon, although Expert Belt and Cross Chop are way better than what I currently have. The EV spread is the classic 252/252. Again, this was in my n00b years where I didn't know much about EV spreads.

BLISSEY-1.jpg

Blissey "The Aromatherapist" (♀)
Calm @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
252 HP/252 Sp. Defense/6 Defense
-Seismic Toss
-Aromatherapy
-Toxic
-Softboiled

Blissey, Blissey, Blissey... This thing hits Max HP and Max Sp. Defense, the perfect special wall. I'm really starting to think this thing's not living up to its full potential. So far, I have almost never used Aromatherapy, so I'm beginning to think it's a waste of a move slot. Seismic Toss is there to break fragile Substitutes and Toxic is there for well... Toxicity. Softboiled is a selfish means of recovery, so I'm beginning to think Wish should be there instead. This Special Skyscraper is just plain slaughtered by Gengar (I can't do SHIT to it), so there's an obvious flaw. Really need to work on her.

dusknoir.png

Dusknoir "The Shadow" (♂)
Impish @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
252 Defence/252 something/6 something
-Shadow Sneak
-Fire Punch
-Will-O-Wisp
-Pain Split

I forgot the EV spread for this guy. Dusknoir is my physical wall. Shadow Sneak is there to make up for its abysmal Speed. Fire Punch is there for the Normal types I can't hit with Shadow Sneak and for its type coverage. If this guy's a physical wall, Will-O-Wisp is there to make its job much easier, reducing the Attack stat of the broiled opponent. Pain Split is a 2-for-1 deal. It can heal Dusknoir and deal damage in the process. I don't think there's much wrong with this guy, except the EV spread.

yanmega.png

Yanmega "The Blue Dragonfly" (♀)
Naive @ Wise Glasses
Ability: Tinted Lens (I couldn't get Speed Boost T^T)
252 Speed/252 Special Attack/ 6 Defense (Sensing a pattern here?)
-Psychic
-Bug Buzz
-AncientPower
-Air Slash

This one has a moveset a 10-year-old would apply on it. I got this blue (yes, it's Shiny) girl in a trade, so there wasn't much I could do about it. I decide I could give her a shot at glory, so eh, what the hell. I prefer Wise Glasses over Choice Specs because I don't like to be forced to switch all the time. I prefer move freedom. The moves, like I said, are the ones a little kid would want to put on any Pokémon for the "awesome type coverage." Obviously, my Yanmega fails. It needs to be worked on, but hey, it was, is, and will be my first team. Go easy on me D=

Shiny_absol_by_CombuskensFlame.png.jpg

Absol "AKA Razr" (♀)
Adamant @ Scope Lens
Ability: Super Luck
252 Attack/ 252 Speed/ 6 something
-Swords Dance
-Psycho Cut
-Night Slash
-X-Scissor

Razr, the Shiny Absol. I basically want to set up a Swords Dance with her, but her fragility can mean her doom. She's all about Critical Hits. Psycho Cut, Night Slash and X-Scissor were the first moves with high critical-hit ratios to come to mind. I wouldn't really say she's great, but she sometimes helps me out when Electivire is down and out. With her out on the field, it's really just a game of chance: Land a critical hit and be one step closer to success or fail epicly and drive yourself into your own doom. Scope Lens + Super Luck + high critical-hit ratio moves should land critical hits a decent amount of times, no?

porygonZ.png

Porygon-Z "1337" (No Gender)
Timid @ Silk Scarf
Ability: Adaptability
252 Speed/ 252 Special Attack/ 6 HP
-Nasty Plot
-Tri Attack
-Dark Pulse
-Ice Beam

This guy/girl/thing is my all-out Special Attacker. Throw up a Nasty Plot and just hurl STAB/Silked/Adapted/Boosted Tri Attacks at anything that doesn't resist it. It's fragility could be a problem. Nasty Plot at the wrong time and it could be this thing's one way ticket to digital hell. Dark Pulse hits Ghosts and Ice Beam hits a variety of Pokémon. I'd say this thing can do its job very well once it manages to set up.

I'd like some feedback on this team. I know it's not the greatest, but again, I made it when Diamond and Pearl were barely released. It was during my n00b days so please don't flame me horribly if you must.

Hi.

First off, I'm going to give you +cool points for using Absol. She's a badass Pokemon, and she's really underused.

Secondly, E-Vire in the current metagame isn't exactly the greatest lead in the world. As a fellow Electivire user, I'd suggest switching him with Yanmega. Electivire isn't fast enough to keep up with current OU leads, and he isn't setting up anything for your team. Give Yanmega SR over AncientPower, and you've got a fast lead that sets up entry hazards. :D Also, try giving Electivire a Jolly nature. This will let you outspeed Salamence and other OU nasties that give Electivire trouble, and he can OHKO them back. :] Get rid of Fire Punch for Cross Chop, it isn't nessecary.

If you insist on using a Blissey (ew), give it 252 EV's in Defense. Seriously, not having to worry about weak physical attacks is a total relief.

I'll add more to this later.

If Yanmega learned Stealth Rock, it would be the most popular lead right now. But it doesn't.
Every thing else you said was right.

Physical Electivire is for noobs. Real battlers use Mixed Electivire

Electivire @Expert Belt
Mild Nature
36 Atk / 252 SpA / 220 Spd
-Thunderbolt
-Flamethrower
-Cross Chop
-Hidden Power Ice/Grass

You see, most things in OU are physically defensive, so Electivire should attack from the special side. For example, Electivire can never OHKO Skarmory with Thunderpunch. But it will always OHKO with Thunderbolt. It can never 2HKO defensive Celebi with Ice Punch. But it will always 2HKO with Flamethrower.

Fellow Absol lover, I salute you.

I'm interested in the SpecialVire now. Makes perfect sense. Except, getting the right HP might be a problem for me; I don't work well with IV's. As for Blissey, I realize the huge mistake there. Back to the lab again.

Generally in OU, Blissey needs to be able to take attrition damage from physical sources; that's why the most common spread has 252 Def, but a Calm Nature (to focus on Special Defense as a role).

Electivire is pretty much the worst thing imaginable for a lead. MixVire is a still-underrated threat in the current metagame, but he works primarily as a sweeper and best when surprising the opponent to get a Motor Drive boost.

The implication then is that you want a strong Flying or Water-type that draws out electric attacks that you can switch into, that you don't have at the moment. Vaporeon, Gyarados, Togekiss, Empoleon, etc. can all fill this role.

As far as leads go, you basically have to be doing one or more of a few particular things in OU with your lead:

- Set up Stealth Rocks (or Spikes/Toxic Spikes, depending on your team) as assuredly as possible.
- Kill your opponent's lead before they set up their own entry hazards.
- Cripple one or more opposing pokemon, especially the lead, to prevent them from setting up hazards to open a hole to set up yourself (e.g. Trick leads).

You have no entry hazards, which is a MAJOR drawback to your team; Stealth Rock will typically deal about 200% of your opponent's health total (of 600%) per game if they're not removed.

Hello,got your PM.

As most have said,Electrivire is better off as an attacker than an "All-Out suicide lead".If you want a Suicide lead , try something who can lay out entry hazards that your team lacks(Azelf and Aerodacatyl to name a few).Looking at the team you have a minor Sword Dance Lucario weakness,Sure you have Yanmega but Stealth Rock can take its toll. The only one that can really take it on is Dusknoir.

If your choosing to keep Electrivire then i reccomend Gilscor over yanmega to combat your Lucario weakness.

Gliscor@Leftovers
Ability:Sand Veil
Evs:252 HP/40 Atk/216 Spd
Nature:Jolly
-Earthquake
-Taunt
-Roost
-Stealth Rock
----
Jolly allows you to outspeed all Lucarios apart from the rare Choice Scarf Lucario.Gliscor can also set up Stealth Rocks which can be a great assist in scoring certain 1HKOs.

thats all i can suggest for now, good luck!
