So this is a new team I made on PO and have had a lot of success with. My intention is to bring it to the next VGCs, barring any rules that disallow DW abilities or what not. My previous team was a Terrakion-Whimsicott Combo, but I found that it was so common that most people had counters for it. Also, Trick Room teams became incredibly annoying with Whimsicott unable to learn Beat Up and Encore together. As a result, I came up with this team, which essentially goes by the same concept of boosting Hitmonlee. Though it's not quite as strong, I've found it more effective because people don't see it coming. Also, I don't know why sprites aren't showing up, I tried to add them :(
Hitmonlee (M) @ Lum Berry Trait: Unburden
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Fake Out
The Centerpiece of the team is Hitmonlee with his new Dream World Ability, Unburden. On the first turn, Lee Fakes Out one of the opponents, incapacitating it for that turn, while Whimsicott Swaggers him, activating the Lum Berry, and doubling his speed and Attack in one turn. I then proceed to sweep.
Whimsicott (F) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Swagger
- Taunt
- Helping Hand
- Encore
One of my favorite pokemon with the ability Prankster and the movepool to use it. Priority Taunt and Encore are great, Swagger I already mentioned, and Helping Hand to Boost Hitmonlee's attacks even more.
Rotom-W @ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunderbolt
- Pain Split
A rather standard Rotom-W. He usually goes in after Whimsicott after he takes enough EQs, I'd like it if he were faster, but the lock in feature of a Choice Scarf would do more bad than good, especially since I'm already running a Choice Band Scizor. I run life Orb over Leftovers for some crazy power that people usually don't see coming and can heal off damage with Pain Split. I also love Pain Split because in the rare situation where he's at pretty decent HP, he can Pain Split with his ally if the ally's survival is more important than his in that situation.
Dragonite (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Outrage
- ExtremeSpeed
- Rock Slide
- Fire Punch
Just another pokemon I've found to be very effective. I love having priority on my team wherever I can, so Extremespeed is perfect for that. I've found Outrage's power to be helpful over Dragon Claw despite the inability to choose a target because Rotom-W, Hitmonlee, and Heatran are all faster and can take out one target, while Dragonite hits the second. It sounds weird, but it works. Multiscale lets hit take hits, even ice types, like a boss and leftovers help get him back to full health to do it again if possible. Also, I bet that picture is the cutest thing you've seen all day!
Heatran (M) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Heat Wave
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Dragon Pulse
The newest addition to my team here, hasn't quite proven he's up to snuff with the rest of it, but has definitely shown promise. I removed a Charge Beam Meloetta for it, on the grounds that Meloetta was going to be too hard to get or unreleased for the VGCs. So i thought of this guy right here as an alternative, as a better switch in to fire-type attacks on Scizor than Rotom-W. Heat Wave is his most consistent move, while Dragon Pulse hits everything but steels, and Fire, Ground, and Fighting can hit all those. Air Balloon is to dodge Hitmonlee and Dragonite's Earthquakes. While he is a little slow and I do miss the powerful Psychic I had to hit Fighting Types with in Meloetta, I think Heatran will fit into this team just fine.
Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Superpower
- Pursuit
I don't think there's a decent trainer out there who doesn't know what this guys can do. Despite my tendency to lean away from Choice items, Scizor has changes my mind with how powerful he can be. Technician boots everything but Superpower, making them all incredibly powerful moves, especially when i get things like Alakazam, Gardevoir, Gengar, and Jellicent on switches with pursuit. Espeon gives me this guy trouble, not because he can kill me, but because I don't know whether to use Bullet Punch, Bug Bite, or Pursuit, which will all come AT LEAST very close to a OHKO. He's amazing, enough said. And Heatran, Dragonite, and Rotom all resist or are immune to fire type attacks, making switching part of his game.
So that's my team.
Rate, Comment, tell me what you think.
I'd really appreciate any help you can give.
Also, can you answer a couple questions for me?
1. What are the odds that Protect succeeds twice in a row?
2. On PO, when i use Swagger on Hitmonlee with a Magic Mirror Espeon on the field, it bounces it back. Does that happen in the real games too or do I have to attack the opposing side?
Thanks :)
