My OU Team

The reason for starting my team.

Well, I am a new member to smogon and competitive battling. I have been waiting for a Battle 101 round to begin so I can learn from the best about Competitive Battling. I thought instead of reading other peoples teams and comments Why don't I learn from the mistakes that I have made in building my team instead of sitting doing nothing and waiting for a Battle 101 round to begin.

The reason for choosing each poke

Well my lead pokemon, I didn't want to start it off with my usual Aerodactyl but I still needed a fast and sometimes surprising poke - This is when Gliscor came into mind.

477.png

So now that I have got a Gliscor I needed to cover the obvious threat of the ice moves. But this pokemon had to also withstand water moves. A Starmie came into mind.

So I now will have a Rapid spin Starmie and a lead Gliscor. Now what do I do with the electric, grass, ghost and dark moves that will be targeted at starmie? None other than a Magnezone

So now I have a poke that will handle with practically all my above weaknesses. But what do I do with the fire and Ground moves?

For Fire: I have a Kindra with 4x resistance to fire. My Kingdra is the main attacker on my team.

So what do I do with the ground?
A Salamence fights in nicely.

Well with my dual dragon's I need to cover my rather large Dragon weakness for this I would use my Scizor.

An in-depth view of my team

477.png

Gliscor (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sandveil
EVs: 204 HP / 52 Atk / 252 Speed
Jolly Nature (+Speed and -Sp.Atk)
Moves;
Stealth Rock
Earthquake
Taunt
Roost - thinking of replacing this with Ice fang.
Set analysis

Well, I needed a good SR user besides an Aerodactyl I chose this Gliscor set to be a lead.

He will set up SR and taunt any other leads that speed stat is less than 317.

Earthquake is used to as his STAB attack.

Roost provides my Gliscor to recover health when able (Predictions and other obvious stages such as a rapid spin). I have thaught about changing roost with Ice fang because of Gliscor not being the main man in the team and the money leads that are immune to earthquake (Aerodactyl, Uxie and some dragons that are their to set up free DDancers on SR users) this will hit them for super and ultra effective damage.

EVs

Well I needed a Gliscor that can outspeed, take a few hits and still be a threat to other pokes so I decided to use 216 EV's in speed to get to 308 speed stat which is rather quick, 88 Atk EV's to get to 248 atk so it can be a threat to a surprised trainer. Well in order to take hits i feel his HP must be increased by 204 EV's thus his HP will be 342.

Starmie @ Leftovers
Ablity: Natural Cure
EVs: 136 HP / 156 Def / 216 Speed
Timid Nature (+Speed, - Atk)
Moves:
Rapid Spin
Recover
Surf
Thunderbolt

Set analysis

Rapid spin is there to clear any entrance hazards that will hinder my team to do well

Recover is well kinda obvious it has the sole purpose to heal starmie

Surf is my Starmie’s STAB attack and it can deal with a Heatran that can be threatening if Kingdra is knocked out

Thunderbolt is to strike down empoleons, Gyarados and any other types of water pokemon (except Water/Ground)

EVs

216 Speed EVs are their to outspeed any other opponents with less than a speed stat of 352
The other EVs are there so that my Starmie can take hits.

467.png

Manezone @ Leftovers
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 40 Atk / 216 Speed / 252 Sp.Atk
Naive Nature (+Speed, - Sp.Def)
Moves:
Explosion
Substitute
Thunderbolt
Hidden Power (Grass)

Set analysis

Thunderbolt is my Magnezone’s STAB attack that can inflict damage to everything except ground types who I would just sub out to my Starmie or Kingdra

Hidden Power grass allows me to hit ground types.

Substitute is there for my Magnezone to be able to take an EQ from a pokemon

Explosion provides my Magnezon with the ability to take out other threats that could threaten my team (A salamence or Dragonite using DDance to set up on my slower Magnezone)

EVs

The reason that I have put 40 EV’s into my Atk stat is to provide my explosion with a bit more power.
216 Speed EV’s are there just to up my Magnezone’s speed stat so it can outspeed other ‘slower’ pokmeon. The 252 Sp.Atk EV’s are there to allow my Thunderbolt to have more zap in it and because Magnezones Sp.Atk stat is higher than his atk stat.

230.png

Kingra @ Leftovers
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP ; 252 Attk ; 252 Speed
Adament Nature (+Atk, -Sp,Atk)
Moves:
Substitute
Dragon Dance
Waterfall
Outrage

Set Analysis

I feel that Kingdra is possibly the best substitute user the game. I say this because he has only 1 weakness of the Dragon type. Thus kingdra can often pull of a quick substitute when there is a switch or he can dragon dance.

Some Calculations showing the advantage of managing 1 DDance
Waterfall: power of 80 because it is a water move Kingdra receives a STAB
80 * 1.5 = 120
So with a DDance up Waterfall now has:
1.5 * 120 = 180 power
Damage that Kingdra can do is
180 * 317 (His Atk Stat) = 57 060
However this 57 060 must be divided by the target foe’s [defence stat * (2 if not very effective or 4 if extremely not very effective)]

Outrage: Power of 120 it receives a STAB bonus and a DDance power up
120 * 1.5 * 1.5 = 270 power
270 * 317 = 85 590
However this 85 590 must be divided by the target foe’s [defence stat * (2 if not very effective or 4 if extremely not very effective)]

EVs

Well since my Kingdra was going to Dragon Dance it would be only viable to max out his attack and speed stats the rest I put into his HP.

248.png

Tyranitar @ Expert Belt
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 48Atk / 208 Speed / 252 Sp.Atk
Naive Nature (+Speed, -Sp.Def)
Moves:
Flamethrower
Ice Beam
Dark Pulse
Superpower

Set Analysis

I already have 2 physical attackers in my team (Scizor and Kingdra) having a third would just be silly because if a pokemon is able to max their defence stat I wouldn’t do very well. This is when Scarloc alerted me to the mixtar set: Flamethrower (for Scizor's and forretress) Ice Beam (for any dragons, Gliscors or flying poke's), Dark Pulse (To hit any spin blockers - and any other ghost pokemon) Superpower (for any other T-tar or dark pokemon)

The special attacks in this set allow me to hit most types for supereffective damage and will do increased damge thanks to Expert Belt
EVs

Although this set is a standerd set on smogon I will explain why the EVs are where they are. 48 Attack EVs allows my T-tar's superpower to easily OHKO an opponenets T-tar. the 208 Speed EVs is to increase my speed and hopefully outspeed other poke's. The 252 Sp.A EV's is becuase my T-tar's set is mainly to hit other pokes for super effective and the 252 EVs are there to Max out my SpA stat.

212.png

Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EV's: 252 Atk; 248 HP ; 8 Speed
Adament Nature (+Atk, - Sp.Atk)
Moves:
Pursuit
Bullet Punch
Superpower
U-Turn

Set Analysis

I decided that Scizor would be the next best physical attacker to put into my team and because it works well to cover Kingdra’s threat and for Kingdra to resist any fire moves aimed at Scizor.

This set is mainly designed to really put in the late game sweep because many of the opposing teams pokes will have taken damage by my poke’s or SR damage.

With my Scizor holding CB it is really a force to be reckoned with.

Here are reason’s why:

1.) Bullet Punch has a Power of 40 but with the STAB, Technician and CB boost it will have a power of 40* 1.5 * 1.5 * 1.5 = 135 power. This will be a total damage (without taking the other pokemon’s defence into account) of 135 * 394 = 53190
2.) U-turn which allows my scizor to sub out on my first turn to my kingdra and have inflicted a decent amount of damage. U-turn power of 70 * CB * STAB * 394 = 62 055
3.) Superpower is there to handle any other Scizor’s or dark types that could threaten my Starmie.
4.) Pursuit allows me to hit fleeing enemies for double damage and have CB increase and a technician boost.
a. 40 Base power *1.5 *1.5 * 394 * 2 = 70 920 without the opponents pokemons defence into account
EVs

Well since this is a physical moveset I would need to max my Scizors attack. I put nearly all the remainding EVs in HP for longetivity and put 8 Speed EV’s to outspeed any other Scizors that havn’t increased their speed stat at all.

Hello

Gliscor appreciates max speed, so I suggest 252 EV's in Spe. Take those Ev's from attack. Gliscor will still have enough power to take out pokemon as Lucario and Tyranitar with Earthquake (although the latter one not in one hit).

your team is good but stall teams can really hurt it, especilly ones that have an infernape at the end to clean off the game. your main attackers(scizor, mence and kingdra and starmie) have no resistances to stealth rock and spikes (mence does but SR hurts). this means you key attackers will be hurt when switching in so you have to have starmie coming in soon after all hazards are down then repid spinning. however you need something to stop rotom from blocking spin, t-tar. replace t-tar over mence for thre reasons
1)you need to hit ghosts other wise your team becomes too weak)
2) mence will be leaving uber soon or (has a chance too) so another mixed sweeper is needed.
3)tar comes with more bulk. your team is pretty fragile and a good t-tar of flygon can hurt this team alot.
