Other Metagames My poison monotype

This is my idea for a Poison type monotype. It is a first draft, so please don't judge it yet, rather tell me how to improve it.

File:089Muk.png

Sgt. Sludge- Muk Toxic Orb
Ability: Sticky Hold
HP 4, ATK 104, DEF 200, SpDEF 200
Nature: Impish

Moves:
Disable
Toxic
Fire punch
Poison Jab

reason: Muk is my wall. He is there to suck up damage while infecting all of their pokemon, so I gave him high defense / Special defense and toxic to drain people. Toxic Orb will heal him, and sticky hold means that no annoying knock off will stop that. Also, being poison type, he only has three issues- and fire punch can take away steel, meaning only psychic and ground can hurt this guy. Also, disable means that if you see a spammy one-shotter coming, block 'em out!

File:073Tentacruel.png

Squiddy- Tentacruel @Assault Vest
Ability: Liquid Ooze
HP 4, DEF 252, SpDEF 252
Nature: Bold

Moves:
Scald
Sludge Bomb
Ice Beam
Rapid spin

Poison has no offensive capability. However, it has incredible defense and few weaknesses, with the most irritating status effect alive. Tentacruel is yet another wall, to suck up damage while using an array of different typed moves to gain an advantage over most enemies. Also, rapid spin can clear stone edge or some other trolly set-up. And, for any who wonder, Liquid Ooze IS deliberate, I didn't forget Rain dish. It's just that sometimes, when you have drainage scrubs hiding behind leech seed, it's nice to turn it against them.

File:454Toxicroak.png

Le Frog- Toxicroak @ Choice Band
Ability: Anticipation
HP 100, 108 ATK, 100 DEF, 100 SpDEF, 100 SpD
Nature: Jolly

Moves:
Drain Punch
Return
Knock off
Thunder punch

Haha, you thought i'd give you no attackers? Nope, not that generic or evil. Toxicroak is a sweeper, with different moves and types to cover a lot of ground with boosted attack that is already high along with significant speed and some durability. While I know that it's easy to kill him, that's why he has anticipation- he can tell if they have anything good against him, so you can swap him out. This has the duel effect of making him a good entry pokemon, as he can check if they are intending to sweep you, and deal the pain at the same time.

File:003Venusaur.png

Botany 101- Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Overgrow
HP 108, 50 ATK, 150 DEF, 50 SpATK, 150 SpDEF
Nature: Relaxed

Moves:
Earthquake
Leech Seed
Giga Drain
Synthesis

I understand the hypocracy, with me complaining about drainers earlier. But at the end of the day, it works. And Venusaur is one of the best in his league at it. Leech seed along with high defenses is good enough BEFORE Giga drain and earthquake. The attacks are almost unneccesary once the seeds are in and the Synthesis flowing. Only issue is, he doesn't take that many different types well. Luckily, Mega venusaur's Thick fat cancels out two different weaknesses ,at least to a degree- Ice and Fire, which will still hurt, but definetly won't one shot you.

File:452Drapion.png

Ugly Bug- Drapion @ Razor Claw
Ability: Keen Eye
HP 4, ATK 252, SpD 252
Nature: Jolly

Moves:
Swords Dance
Night slash
X- Scissor
Fire fang

Yeah, I know. He's generic and obvious. But, he's also dark type, And on my first run through, psychic types stomped my entire team. So Drapion is especially valuable, with a counter to almost all of Poison's weaknesses, and the speed, attack and near-undodgeableness to back it all up. Plus, lots of crits. We love the crits in da hood.

034Nidoking.png

Drill Sgt- Nidoking @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Poison Point
HP 108, ATK 100, DEF 150, SpDEF 150
Nature: Careful

Moves:
Dragon Tail
Earthquake
Power-up Punch
Roar

So this is basically the beefcake of the team. I considered Dragalga, but Nidoking has better statistics on the whole and, to settle it mentaly, looks cooler. I mean, this brute is a killing machine. 170 ATK UNBOOSTED, this guy can OHKO almost anything. The scarf lets him move first 90% of the time, and the swapping moves mean that any potential threaght is destroyed instantly. Enjoy the team.

If you're gonna use a monotype team (please dont) use mono flying the main problem with this team is SD landorus 6-0s your team a way you could fix this is run scarfer with ice beam but if the landorus sets up a substitute the game is over
Thanks for the advice but this team has beat Landorus repeatedly with only one pokemon.

Hi, ngl your poison team is kinda far from optimal and certain statements combined with extremely strange ev spreads and sets make this team weak to common pokemon that really reks this team and make me slightly question your grasp of the metagame :s

Muk - is really bad, toxic orb poisons users (the item im assuming you meant is black sludge), and even with defensive evs muk is just bad. There are two ways to go with in replacing muk, either making a more defensive or offensive team:
If you want a nice check to physical attackers and will o wisp/haze user try out Weezing, if you want another physical attacker try Scolipede, as both of these pokemon help a lot.
Sets:
Scolipede @ Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Megahorn
- Protect
- Earthquake / Swords Dance / Baton Pass
- Rock Slide / Substitute
Megahorn Scolipede gives poison a chance vs psychic as megahorn heavily dents most things while +2 can potentially sweep, overall scolipede really helps and will help vs scarf pokemon in general.
Weezing @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpDef
Bold Nature
- Sludge Bomb
- Haze / Flamethrower
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
Weezing is a great physical wall and forms a nice core with tentacruel and mega venusaur and drapion/skuntank thats hard to break, sludge bomb prevents you from being taunt fodder and haze resets boosts while flamethrower hits things like scizor and ferrothorn, wisp burns the physical attackers your countering and pain split is recovery.

Tentacruel - AV does nothing as its good spdef is good and losing out on status moves sucks. Replace ice beam and sludge gomb with toxic spikes and acid spray and change the ev spread with 24 speed and the rest in hp and spdef. You can also use scald / acid spray / rest / sleep talk to beat msab 1v1. The item should be black sludge.

Toxicroak - Can be good but band is just kinda strange when it gets swords dance. If you want to keep it use life orb with max speed and attack and gunk shot / sucker punch / swords dance / drain punch with ice punch as an option if you want coverage. However I would replace it with crobat or gengar as they both add another ground immunity and can provide a lot more support, crobat can be defog / brave bird / roost / u turn with rocky helmet and gengar can run stallbreaking taunt / shadowball / sludge wave / dgleam or focus miss or replace taunt with coverage and run an all out attacker with either lorb or sash.

Venusaur - Good, just change the ability to chlory to help with mchar y and use either defensive or offensive ev spread

Drapion - should be running pursuit and battle armor with sludge, sd / pursuit / koff / filler should be fine for now with max def

Physical scarf nidoking, with 2 -priority attacks? If you want nidoking use lorb sheer force with max special attack and speed with earth power and sludge wave and coverage.

Tl;dr
Replace muk with scolipede or weezing
Use sludge scald / acid spray / rest / sleep talk or scald / acid spray / tspikes / rspin for tentacruel
Use the sd sweeping toxicroak set or replace it with crobat or gengar
Change overgrow to chlory on venusaur
Use lorb nidoking
Add pursuit at least on drapion
FIX YOUR EV SPREDS ;w;

Also make sure to just run things by the monotype room if you need advice on sets and spreads, and check out the monotype resource thread which includes a viability rankings to give an idea on whats viable and take a look at www.monotypeps.weebly.com/sprite-gallery.html to get an idea of what to prepare for in the metagame.

Gl with your team :s
Thanks for the advise but all of my decisions here were to make is seem different.
Muk IS a good pysical wall, as learnt through experience, as most don't use psychic or ground that often and he can deal with steel. It is true though, I meant to use black sludge.
Tentacruel needs ice beam to take dragons and ground types with water resistances (just saying, you never know) and I considered Acid spray but Sludge bomb seemed more effective for my approach.
Nidoking I understand, but the Scarf is the only thing that keeps him as a good sweeper as well as a solid defense, as he NEEDS to hit first before Alakazam or the likes one shot him. Going to change Roar though, he has dragon tail.
I HATE life orb, it kills my pokemon with their own attacks.
Drapion is only there to counter Psychics, otherwise Beedrill would be in his place. He has no defensive properties to me.
The EV spreads out to cover everything rather than one quality, so no specific one has a set weakness.

Thanks for the advice, but everything I did had consideration behind it. This team had many test runs to get to were it is now.

Hi there bubblesdabear!~ From what I'm seeing, your team is a bit all over the place (looking at your EV investment and move choices), it is quite weak to fast pokemon since you lack speed investment on the Pokemon that you want to be fast and you don't have many answers to physically defensive walls. Additionally, the only Pokemon with Poison type moves are your walls (muk and tentacruel) which is concerning since your main attackers are missing out on stab-moves they can use. I agree with most of the changes presented by SubMindRaikou so I will not addressing those.

Toxicroak-
I would recommend changing the EVs to 252 Att / 4 SpD / 252 Spe, change the Ability to Dry Skin, and also change return to sucker punch and thunderpunch to poison jab / gunk shot.
Toxicroak already has bad defenses and investing EVs into def and spd didn't change much since it basically still gets KO-ed from Earthquake and Psychic from mons with no SpA investment. Speed is important since Toxicroak has a decent base speed and having the extra speed will allow it to outspeed threatening mons such as Mamoswine, Chandelure, and regular Gardevoir. Dry Skin basically allows you to wall bulky Water-types since it can switch in to Scalds, which makes Thunderpunch unnecessary. Lastly, Poison Jab replaces Thunderpunch so Toxicroak has a secondary stab move and Sucker Punch will knock out unsuspecting, squishy Psychic types that would otherwise wall Toxicroak. Choice Band is iffy on Toxicroak since it already gets Swords Dance (but whatever floats your boat)

Nidoking-
I would change Nidoking into a Special Attacker since your team stands at 5 physical and 1 special attacker currently.
Nidoking @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 Def / 252 Spa / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Sludge Bomb
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam
- Superpower / Thunderbolt

So this set utilizes Nidoking's already high Att stat while also having access to a lot of coverage moves as well. Currently, your Nidoking does not outspeed Alakazam (or the likes) and does not hit very hard considering you don't have much attack investment, also Power-up-punch and choice scarf is a weird combo. This set allows Nidoking to be a specially attacking wall breaker-ish (due to sheer force) and also deals with some special walls with Superpower (Chansey and Umbreon come to mind). The EV spread and Scarf allow Nidoking to outspeeds almost every unboosted mon while hitting quite hard.

Also, change your EV spread, they are weird (unless you can justify them somehow). Also consider (or at least try out) the changes presented by SubMindRaikou since they could improve your team. If you don't like them, after trying them, you can easily throw them out.

hopefully this helped, good luck~

Thank you for the advice, it is much appreciated. However, just so this doesn't bug me later, I do have a counter to walls, in the form of spamming toxic on them until they run out of cures.
