My somewhat successful bulky-type SUN team

So this is my first RMT so be kind, I've been a memeber here for months so I thought I should finally post something here.

Anyway, this is my unorthadox sun team, I've actually been having some success, and have been refining it over and over for months, put things in, take things out etc. The reason I call it unorthadox is because of the pokemon I use. I wanted to make a team without the usual whorey OU pokemon, so I tried out all these and actually had success! But still there are flaws so I'am hoping someone will give me some feedback

Ninetales (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Drought
EVs: 252 HP / 240 SDef / 16 Spd
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Confuse Ray
- Fire Blast
- Will-O-Wisp

First off, I'm not sure how to insert images, so i apoligise for that. [EDIT] thanks birkal!
Initially, this team was wall/stall based, but this team evolved, it seemed to get more offensive. But yet my ninetales has remained in a specially bulky set. Due to the sun, politoads cant really do a lot to her, especially when I start to set up calm minds. Will-o-wisp to shut down physical attackers, Confuse ray for switch ins and fire blast for attacks.
if it wasnt for ninetales being neccisary on sun teams, i probably wouldnt use her.
[EDIT] ive taken into account the suggestions made, but with all the ninetales ste ive run, this has had the most success. it doesnt look it but is is actually successful. it usually burns and/or confuses something and gets the hell out, or earthquake bait with tyranitar and haxourus etc for jumpuff to encore + subseed i really should of explained all of this in more depth. sorry for my noobiness :p

Victreebel (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 128 Atk / 128 SAtk / 252 Spd
Rash Nature (+SAtk, -SDef)
- Sleep Powder
- Growth
- Weather Ball
- Leaf Blade

Victreebel is really what i built this team around. I try to get rid of the things that resist its attacks, such as heatran, who completely walls it, i then proceed to set up. Chansey is great to set up on, it really cant touch it. Not only does victreebel or in this case mixtreebel, serve as my mixed sweeper, its also my wall breaker (except for heatran, more on that later), giving the assumption of either special or physical, my opponent will switch in accordingly, Growth or sleep powder on the switch, then proceed to sweep, setting up more growths where i can and sweep with leafblade or weatherball, which becomes a base 100 fire type move in the sun, will then destroy ferrothorns and scizors. what doesnt resist is often destroyed.
[EDIT] reason for victreebel over venusaur: weatherball. and a lesser extent, leafblade. i have never seen a mixed venusaur, and unless my sah is broken, weatherball will kill. also on a note i should of included, victreebel is my late game sweeper. there have been times where victreebel got an easy start of game sweep, but it is used primarily for late game sweeping

051.gif

Dugtrio (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Arena Trap
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Sucker Punch
- Reversal
- Stone Edge

Dugdrio serves is a superb revenge killer, and as someone using weather, its imperitive that i win the weather wars. It was designed for getting rid of tyranitars, and also heatrans and terrakions. Earthquake for obvious reasons, stone edge for coverage. suckerpunch for priority and finally reversal as an attack for heaps of damage when d3 is brought down to the sash. a jolly nature guarantees that it can outspeed tyranitar even after a dragon dance.
[EDIT] duggie is important for this team to work effectively and to help setting up victreebel. i forgot to mention i can store easy KOs on jolteon, volcarona (assuming stone edge hits of course). reversal is for when tyranitar actually attacks on a switch ans sashes me as an earthquake just wont OHKO, but a reversal will. also will on a blissy, and does a nice chunk on skarmory. once the main threats are gone, dugdrio isnt really needed any more, but still is nice for dealing damage every now and then.

189.gif

Jumpluff (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Stun Spore
- Leech Seed
- Encore
- Substitute

Jumpluff may just be the second most annoying pokemon around, just after sableye. with a base 110 speed, doubled in the sun, it outspees everything.
Jumpluff is the fastest Subseeder out there, and even when faced with steel types, it can still mess with them with encore and stun spore. Basicly, this pokemon is great for forcing switches when i want a safe switch in. [EDIT] stun spore over reflect. paralasis is the main status on this team and spreading it is essential. will'o'wisp is great for shutting down a powerful pokemon but paralasis is better IMO, slowing down everything is great. seriously.
with using ninetales as earthquake fodder, i switch into jumpluff, and unless you're a mamoswine (who barely anyone actually uses) i will encore you into oblivion. switch or not i dont care. i will sub, then seed and stun whenever i have too. seiously, paralysing ground types and jolteon is just so satisfying. jumpluff is great for wearing down my opponents, which helps with a bulky team. and im not surprised when atleast every pokemon on my opponetnts team has had trollpluff get to it.
reason for jumpluff over whimsicott is levitate. having a grpund immunity is a good thing. plus i like jumpuff better than whimsicott :3

233.gif

Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Trait: Trace
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Recover
- Thunder Wave

Porygon2, or as i like to call it, dragonite killer! it also destroys gyarados, gliscor, salamences and the occasional haxorus too. but my favourite thing is destroying dragonites!
tracing the multiscale is one of my favourite things to do!
Thunderwave is to cripple all those Dragon dancers, so that i have can always recover when i need to. I went with Boltbeam over triattack because P2 really doesnt need STAB. honestly boltbeam is just better and for some reason no-one expects it/ Icebeam for dragons, gliscor, landorus and venusaur, and other grass types and thunderbolt for gyarados, politoad, and starmie and other bulky waters of coarse (except of coarse for gastrodon, taken care of by victreebel). honestly, i dont see why this thing isnt OU, i found it just counters dragonites sooooooo easily! one of the best counters! despite no special defence investment, thanks to eviolite and natural bulk, it can still take those hits.
[EDIT] Porygon2 really is the back bone of this team. and i really on it alot. i try my best to conserve it. you'd be surprised how much synergy jumpluff and P2 have with each other at times. both being able to set up for the other. jumpluff encoring things for it, P2 luring moves like disable and fighting type moves.

[EDIT:] celebi sucks on this team. like magic leopard said, fire rips through it. so i replaced it with this, who by the way, is often my MVP...

230.gif

Kingdra (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 100 HP / 252 SAtk / 156 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Hydro Pump
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Ok, after looking over my team and testing and re-testing pokemon i came up with this. Kindra surprises me in how well it does in a sun team. take out its only weakness, dragons (aside from the lati's porygon does that nicely) and it does well. i like its natural bulk, but i improved on that a bit because i rely on its semi unique typing to resist water, ecspecially in rain. we'll get to that soon.
I decided to go special over physical because it gets more coverage really, plus no one suspects it, and i cannot count the number of times people have switched in thier ferrothorns, fortresses and scizors on it, only to be greatly surpises by HP fire.
Substitute is there for safety really. i sub on switches and asses from there.
Dragon pulse is there for un-affected-by-weather move, and also works well against dragons, because usualy they switch into kindra, by then ive subbed and i get a nice, strong STAB free hit on them.
now hydro pump is for when rain is up. swift swim is banned on rain teams, but not sun teams, and using my opponets weather against them is amazing. in some battles, its best i DONT get sun back up, and just keep rain up for kingra. fun fact, a rain boosted hydro pump will also OHKO most scizors, who switch in in an effort to wall in the rain. and the x4 restiance to water is beautiful, and even better because i dont get hindered by scald burns! :D
lastly, with kindra's rain and sun designed moveset, it can take out tyranitar, politoad, ninetales AND abomasnow on the rare occasion its seen. Kindra is often my lead when facing weather.

after all this editing my type weakness are:
2 pokemon weak to fire, water, ice (one being x4 weak), flying and rock.
1 pokemon weak grass, fighting, poison, ground, psychic and dragon.

with flying, psychic, dragon ghost and dark being the only type i my team does not resist or have an imunity to. none of them (aside from dragon) are super common attaking types, and only 2 pokemon actually being weak to them (flying and psychic)

also with your critiques taken into account: heatran adds a groud and fight weakness, which i do not apreciate. and adds a 3rd stealth rock weakness. plus i have porygon for dragons, aswell at landourus, gliscor and gyrados, which unfortunately heatran doesnt do well against. and with celebi gone, my fire weakness is down to 2 pokemon. and with the addition of kindra, i can shrug off fire attacks. fire is not a type i like to repeat on a team due to water, rock ground and stealth rock being on every team.

donphan is a good choice though. rapid spin is something my team can greatly benefit from. aswell as stealth rock. but i see trapping as higher priority than getting rid of stealth rocks. :/ its a hard choice, but im sticking with dugtrio.

and lilligant does not get growth. and has a mediocre attack stat and im looking for a mixed attacker. and this team is more special than physical so having a mixed attacker is better than mono special, considereing i already have ninetales , porygon2 and kingra.

i welcome all constructive crtisism, so please give it. i know my team doesnt handle flying types and the Lati's. and i would love someone suggsting changes please! thanks in advance.

[EDIT] Try this out on Pokemon online and tell me how it works! i want to know how well you can utilise it, and maybe tell me a new stratergy!

Hi there, welcome to the RMT thread. As no-one else seems to have looked yet, i'll have a go at suggesting some other options.

First of all, I would recommend changing Ninetales's set: The strange calm mind mono-attacking set that you have suggested here puzzles me as to its effectiveness: Ninetales operates much better (and should be used as if you intend to keep her alive against other weather teams) as either a hit-and-run attacker, or a bulky spread. As such, I would suggest looking at the smogon on-site analysis of Ninetales located here, and deciding which suits your manner of play style: www.smogon.com/bw/pokemon/ninetales

Now onto the biggest issue. Your entire team depends almost completely on Porygon 2's walling capabilities to stop fire type monsters from plowing through your team: An offensive Volcarona set of Fire blast/ Bug buzz/ Hidden Power Ground/Quiver Dance will RIP through your team in a flash if carrying either a lum or chesto-rest, outspeeding dugtrio after 1 QD and victreebel after 2, and being able to take a hit from any pokemon on your team and proceed to wreck the rest. You might think that actually your focus sashes will save you, but in reality, 99% of teams have stealth rock on their team, and after a few QD's Volcarona will shrug off any attacks.
For this reason, I suggest a Heatran that carries either a balloon or a shuca berry, which can deal with a plethora of common fire type pokemon (such as Scarfed Darmanitan or Victini, another huge weakness), and yet still take a hit from volcarona and either phaze it out or hit back with a boosted fire blast. Not only this, but it can also set up those all important stealth rocks which your team needs so much. I would suggest putting heatran in place of jumpluff, victreebel or celebi, simply because of your huge fire weakness.
Remember that annoying weakness to Staraptor and Tornadus? Yeah, well worry no more. Heatran would also help enormously in walling the Lati twins, in particular a specially defensive set which I would suggest over the one listed here if you intend to use Donphan too.

Heatran @ Air balloon/Shuca berry
Modest / Timid
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
~ Fire Blast
~ Earth Power
~ Hidden Power Ice / Hidden Power Rock
~ Stealth Rock

Another pokemon you may consider swapping out with is a Donphan. This would also allow you to set up stealth rocks AND keep focus sashes intact on your team, whilst giving the team some much needed physical bulk as a whole, being able to deal with threats such as DD-Gyarados by phasing them out once set-up. Donphan can also deal with a non-choiced staraptor, being abe to tank both Brave Bird and CC.
Donphan would also have good synergy with Duggy, as he can take out the annoying ghosts (i.e. Jellicent) that stop Donphan from spinning opposing rocks.

Donphan @ Lefties
Impish
252 Hp / 4 Atk / 252 Def
~ Rapid Spin
~ Stealth Rock
~ Earthquake / Head Smash
~ Toxic / Roar / Knock Off

And finally, you may want to consider if running these suggested above to use a unique Lilligant set that I have used with considerable success as a powerful revenge killer and offensive pivot. With a great base special attack and blistering speed in the sun, lilligant would be a great substitute for scarf celebi's rather lacking offensive presence, and mantains the ability to switch moves.

Lilligant @ Life Orb
Chlorophyll
Modest
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
~ Quiver Dance / Healing Wish
~ Sleep Powder
~ Solar Beam / Leaf Storm / Giga Drain
~ Hidden Power Fire / Hidden Power Ice / Hidden Power Rock

As you can see, Lilligants set can be tweaked exactly as you want it to be: the choice of Leaf Storm grants you immediate power for revenge killing capabilities at the cost of negating quiver dance boosts and so reducing sweeping potential. Healing wish over quiver dance is suggested if you take this root, because of the fact that it can give near-dead teammates a free full restore, such as porygon 2, and bring Donphan back up to Sturdy, which can be gamechanging in application. On the other hand, if going on the sweeper route, Solar beam is an extremely powerful, if unreliable, option over Giga Drain, acting as the kind of midway between LS's power and GD's reliability and health restore.
For the hidden power, I would actually suggest HP rock as your first choice, because of its ability to hit dragons and volcarona (another revenge killer).

I like the team though, and don't feel as though the team needs my suggestions: I'm just trying to patch up some of the gaping holes in team synergy and prevent the using of pokemon that are severely outclassed in what they do (I.e. Jumpluff by Whimsicott). Other than that, great job!

maye you should change Victreebel for Venusaur as he has better stats overall, a good set would be:

Venusaur @ Life Orb
Chlorophyll
4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spd
-Growth
-SolarBeam
-Hidden Power Fire
-Sleep Powder
With this one you can also make a mixed set if you like, abuse sun and reaches higher speed stats than Vic and has the same typing

Also, Ninetales is way better with a Sunny Day set because she has not enough raw power, try this set:

Ninetales @ Leftovers, Air Balloon
Drought
EVs: 128 HP / 252 SpA / 20 SpD / 108 Spe
Modest Nature (+SpA, -Atk)
- Sunny Day
- Fire Blast
- Solarbeam
- Will-O-Wisp
Sunny Day will allow you to keep the sun when the opponent change to it's eather starter, Sunny Day on the switch and you're set. The choice between Air Balloon and Leftovers is your

Replace one of your team members for a Donphan Spinner also :)

While I am not much of a team rater, post images by using
tags! Just place your image link right in between those bracketed tags and you should be good to go. If you're still confused, quote this post, and check out how I posted the following image of Rotom:

479.gif

Furthermore, you can find a great compilation of BW sprites here. Like the above posters have recommended, I'd also say that adding a spinner to your team is a good idea; both Ninetales and Jumpluff are weak to Stealth Rock. Best of luck.

Even though I don't specialize in OU, I can see a few weaknesses. As magic leopard stated, you do not have any pokemon to set up the ever so important stealth rocks. Without stealth rocks, they would always get free switch-ins which is hard to win weather wars. You have to make them pay for repeatedly switching. Also, with SR, it puts a major dent on volcarona, salamence and dnite. Also, you're running two focus sash users and without a spinner, it completely wastes an item slot. A spinner would be very useful for dugtrio to come in and revenge kill. The best bet would be Donphan or Forretress.

Your team is also pretty offensive compared to a lot of sandstall or rain teams. You can't depend on winning the weather war all the time and you have two very sun dependent pokemons. Without the sun, you'll have almost no way of dealing with steel types. What would help is replacing Jumpluff with a Heatran+air balloon as that gives you SR and a strong stab fire. Also, this team also has a problem against dragons. If Dnite gets a DD off or moxiescarfsalamence with sleep clause in effect, there's nothing to stop it. A steel type would definitely help.

How do you win battles if 5 Pokémons of your team hate Stealth Rock and you have no spinner? Even Porygon2 relies on Multiscale to beat Dragonite. If you can't put a spinner on your team, then try to remove your SR weakness.

magic_leopard's Heatran would check almost everything Porygon2 checks. A Sun team with only one true abuser? That's pointless. Heatran would love to spam Fire Blasts in the Sun. He would also deal with Lati@s.

Whimsicott is simply better than Jumpluff. It's not immune to Earthquakes, but still resists them.

You should try a Special set on Victreebel instead of that Mixed set. Blissey can't wall the Special set anyway, so you don't need Leaf Blade. IMO, what makes Victreebel better than Venusaur is Giga Drain. With Giga Drain and 301 HP, you can set up 3 Growths while Blissey brings you down to 1 HP with Seismic Toss and kill her with a +6 LO Giga Drain and start the sweep. Way better than rely on a Focus Sash that leaves you exposed to Priority Moves and may not even work.

Also, what kind of player sends in Scizor to wall a Kingdra in the Rain? Kingdra isn't immune to Scald burns either, and Heatran isn't weak to Stealth Rock nor Ground-type moves when using an Air Balloon...

@brutalitops: i have mentioned that dnite does not pose a problem to my team. my porygon easily takes care of that, and salamence. steel types are not effective in sun, except heatran of coarse.

and with out the sun steel isnt a huge problem. they are either weak to fire or ground, in which i have ninetales, victreebel and kindra with a fire attack and dugdrio for gound. dugdrio is the one who takes out steels like jirachi heatran and metagross, while the rest can take out ferrothorn, scizor and fortress, who usually switch in on victreebel not expecting weatherball for somereason. and its really only victreebel that relies on sun, jumpluff is fast with and without it.

@JGSabino: only 2 pokemon are actuall weak to stealthrock, and the others dont really care about it at all.

i have tried heatran on this team when it first started, and i felt it wasnt cut out for the job. im trying to limit thee ammount of fire types on this team when possible. but heatran can step up to dragons aswell as you maythink. alot of salamences and haxoruses carry brick break and earthquake. earthquake is the scary part. and heatran doesnt have recover and boltbeam. it really doesnt have what im looking for.

i have found mixtreebel o be more succesfull with me, but i do like your special suggestion. ill take that into account.

and a person switches in a scizor to wall a kindra when they expect an outrage...
and i never said kingdra was immune to scald burns, i said they dont affect kindra, as it is a special kingdra.
with heatran, an air baloon is a one time item, that prevents the use of leftovers. P2 atleast can use recover. and i just prefer jumpluff over whimsicott. whimsicott is great, but i think jumpluff is better IMO
