My team hates hazards [UU RMT]

Okay guys, I'm from the Pokecommunity Forums and I'm fairly new to competitive battling. This is my 3rd attempt at UU as my first to attempts have failed miserably. I wouldn't be bothering with UU, but I have some friends that only do UU so I desperately need a team for wifi. So here's what I've got, please bare with me as I'm completely new to this and am bound to make many mistakes.

Froslass (F) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Snow Cloak
EVs: 224 HP/ 252 Def/ 32 Spe
Timid nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Spikes
- Taunt
- Pain Split
- Ice Beam

My lead has changed several times. I first used Omastar, but then I started feeling that I was trying to do too many things with it that it lost it's efficiency. After Omastar, I decided to use Ambipom which I didn't feel to comfortable using. I decided to bring back Froslass from one of my failed UU teams as it was able to get the job done. Basically I set up 3 layers of Spikes. If I think my opponent will try to set up hazards, I Taunt them first and then set up Spikes. I threw Ice Beam on there for a STAB attack so I could take out some leads (i.e. Donphan). Once Froslass's job is done, she Destiny Bond's and takes one of my opponents Pokemon with her. She also serves as a Spin Blocker if she manages to survive the first threat.

rhyperior.png

Rhyperior (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Solid Rock
Nature: Impish (+ Def, -SpA)
EVs: 244 HP /184 Def / 80 SpD
- Earthquake
- Rock Blast
- Megahorn
- Stealth Rock

This position has changed many times as well. I started off with a Mismagius to be my Spin Blocker, but when I brought in Froslass as my lead I switched this spot to Spiritomb. Both Mismagius and Spiritomb failed this team so I chose Rhyperior. Rhyperior first sets up Stealth Rock. I usually send him out after Venusaur puts on of my opponents Pokemon to sleep so that Rhyperior can easily set up the rocks. I then proceed to use either Megahorn (for Dark, Psychic types), Stone Edge (for Flying types), or Earthquake (for Rock, Steel, Fire types).

gallade.png

Gallade (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Steadfast
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Shadow Sneak
- Psycho Cut

This is the star of the team. I've had him since I first made the team and has proven to be a beast once he sets up. After setting up I can pretty much take out most Pokemon. A +2 Shadow Sneak is able to KO most Psychic and Ghost types. +2 Close Combat takes out most Rock, Ice, and Steel types. +2 Psycho Cut completely decimates Fighting and Poison types. There isn't much to say about this guy, it's pretty basic.

venusaur.png

Venusaur (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant nature (+Atk, - SpA)
- Power Whip
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance
- Sleep Power

I use to have MixTile in this spot. But I decided to use Venusaur because he can absorb Toxic Spikes. The idea here is that I Sleep Powder on the switch. After that I try to Swords Dance up. After one Swords Dance, I can take out most things with Power Whip except Flying and Fire Types. Earthquake can take out Poison types a lot easier after one Swords Dance. Again, there isn't much to say about this it's pretty simple.

blastoise.png

Blastoise @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Atk)
EV's: 252 HP / 236 Def / 20 Spe
Moveset:
- Surf
- Foresight
- Rapid Spin
- Ice Beam

I originally had Hitmontop in this spot. But I opted for Blastoise since my team really needed a bulky water. Blastoise is also my Spinner. I gave him Foresight so I can still spin on Ghosts and rid the field of hazards that my team just hates. Surf is a really power STAB, however I may go for Hydro Pump because of the extra power. Ice Beam is there for coverage and can put a dent in Grass types that are slower than Blastoise.

OR

milotic.png

Milotic (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Marvel Scale
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Atk)
EV's: 148 HP / 252 Def / 108 SpA
- Hypnosis
- Recover
- Surf
- Ice Beam

Milotic basically does the same job as Blastoise but does not spin away entry hazards. I chose Milotic because it is bulkier and has a recovery option allowing it to stay in play longer. There isn't much to say about why I chose Milotic, the better defenses just seem more appealing to me. With higher defenses, I am able to increase some of my attacking power and be a somewhat of a threat to some Pokemon. I'm not entirely sure on which to choose, Milotic or Blastoise. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me decide.

blaziken.png

Blaziken @ Choice Scarf
Nature: Mild
Ability: Blaze
EV's: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Moveset:
~ Vacuum Wave
~ Fire Blast
~ Stone Edge
~ Superpower

I use to have Weezing in this spot, but he wasn't doing much for my team. I decided to toss Blaziken in here for some priority with Vacuum Wave. Fire Blast helps me take out Grass types and Registeel who completely walls my team. Stone Edge comes in handy against Flying types that threaten Gallade and Venusaur. I chose to use Superpower because of its high base power which can help take out Ice types.

Well that's my team. Please rate guys, and I'm sorry if I made any mistakes on here. While you are rating please keep in mind that I'm new to competitive battling and that I plan on taking this team Wifi to battle with friends so getting the correct Hidden Power for a Pokemon is problematic for me. Anyways, let the rating begin!

Hey there, just to tell you swords dance is a +2 not a +1, because +1 is what you have on Gallade. Also maybe try Shadow Sneak over Ice Punch on Gallade? It hits Ghosts like Mismagius, Froslass, Drifblim, and Psychics like Uxie, Espeon, Mesprit, Gardevoir, Claydol, and especially Alakazam. Alakazam could hurt some of your team. Psychicing Blaziken, while taking a Vaccum Wave. Psychic Venusaur, and HP Fire Froslass. Shadow Sneak provides a 2nd priority move on your team, which is good. Also Vaccum Wave and Shadow Sneak has unresisted coverage.

Also why does your Venusaur have 80 SpeA EV's? It doesn't have any special moves. So i recommend putting those EVs into speed or Hp.

All in all a nice UU team.

Oops, I accidently put +1 and not +2. Thanks for the corrections.

Looks like I messed up here to, Venusaur currently has max Speed and Attack EV's.

I'm not completely sure about replacing Ice Punch with Shadow Sneak, I'd like some more feedback before I make a decision.

I don't have time to do a complete rate right now, but the lack of a spinblocker is something that really bothers me. IMO you should try Heysup's Prolass spread: 224 HP/ 252 Def/ 32 Spe, so that it can survive longer and act as a spinblocker throughout the match.

I'm actually considering on replacing Froslass and Rhyperior and coming up with a lead that sets up Stealth Rock and Spikes, and a much better Spin Blocker. Any ideas?
I've made so many changes to this team, I just can't seem to get it right.

hello sceptile,

By the looks of your team, your going to want those Spikes to get down at least two times so your team can pose on teams by making them think twice when double switching. Reverting Froslass to a slightly more bulkier version would do this: 224 HP/ 252 Def/ 32 Spe with a Timid nature and Pain Split over Destiny Bond really works well for this team. This version of Froslass can get at least 2 layers of Spikes down on many leads. Spikes will help many of your guys sweep.

Two of your largest threat by far is Dragon Dance Feraligatr and Life Orb Moltres. Feraligatr can threaten Rhyperior and I doubt you want to risk staying in as Rhyperior is a vital member on your team (checking Honchkrow and Swellow). Molres can come in on anything after something dies and can literally destroy your entire team. Blastoise is not a good check because it doesn't have a reliable recovery move to handle it. Air Slash + Hidden Power Grass threaten Blastoise if you mispredict. One way to handle these threats is the addition of Milotic aka "the glue" on many teams. Milotic is one of the best walls in the UU tier as it boasts good bulk on both ends. Thankfully Milotic saves you from these threats. Milotic with 252 HP / 252 Def / 6 SpD with a Bold Nature and the movesets Surf / Hidden Power Grass / Recover / Haze should suffice. Feraligatr will never beat Milotic with Haze and Hidden Power Grass 3HKOs it. Moltres can't beat it unless Milotic's HP is reduced severely. Overall, Milotic is the best bulky water at the moment, as the loss of Rapid Spin is not that significant as your team isn't really weak to it.

A couple of things your unsure of: Shadow Sneak over Ice Punch is the best option on Gallade. Checks faster threats, mostly Mismagius and Rotom. Also Adamant nature is not good on Venusaur, as a metagame filled with base 80's will really force you to switch out. Jolly nature ensures you speed-tie or outpace base 80's and most importantly - outpace Jolly Honchkrow. Jolly nature ultimately reduces your prediction game.

As for other options, Hidden Power Grass over Stone Edge might be the better option on Blaziken. This allows you to 2HKo Slowbro on the spot instead of switching to Venusaur to take the hit. Venusaur could suffer a huge chunk of its health if the foes Slowbro uses Psychic. Slowbro coming in on Fire Blast will always die from Hidden Power Grass the following turn. This way, this reduces your prediction game. Stone Edge really only hits Altaria, who is currently non-existent. Slowbro is far more used and hitting it is better. Besides, Altaria is checked by Rhyperior. overall gl.

Thank you for your extensive rate. I will go with Shadow Sneak >> Ice Punch for Gallade, and Jolly >> Adamant for Venusaur.

I'm a bit iffy about using Froslass, is there a better lead that can set up both rocks and spikes? I feel that I am wasting a slot on my team by having Froslass set up spikes and Rhyperior set up rocks.

I will take your advice and replace Blastoise with Milotic. You mentioned Hidden Power [Grass] >> Stone Edge for Blaziken, the only problem is that I plan on using this team mostly on Wifi and getting the right Hidden Power is a difficult task. That is why I chose Stone Edge over Hidden Power [Grass].

Rhyperior is a keeper. Stops Flying-type threats mainly Honchkrow and Swellow. If you were seeking for something that could Spike and Stealth Rock then Omastar would do the job. However, it doesn't fit the team otherwise a large number of changes would be needed. Stick to Froslass / Rhyperior imo and try the "prolass" EV spread, it is really good.

Okay, thanks.
So how would I typically use Froslass? Taunt if I think they will try to set up hazards, or otherwise start setting up Spikes. Pain Split when I'm low on health, and switch in on Spinners?

Also, I'm still looking for an alternative to Hidden Power Grass for Blaziken.

Your team is pretty rain dance weak, except maybe Venasaur, but its not a reliable counter. I'd suggest replacing Blaziken maybe with Toxicroak to sponge those water attacks. You can give that Vaccum Wave if you want the priority.

I'm not worried about Rain Dance teams since I'll mostly be using this on Wifi to battle some friends, and not many of then have RD teams.

Hey guys, if I used the Sleep Support set for Milotic, would it work well with the team? I'd like to replace Blastoise with Milotic because of the extra bulk and ability to recover.

No should make it Sleep powder because you can have atleast 1 turn to setup swords dance when it doesn't miss.

Then just replace hypnosis and put toxic for toxic stalling for the Milotic, the low accuracy for hypnosis is unreliable.

And why would you want to put toxic for Venasaur?

Just tested out all the suggestions given, and so far the team has been doing really well. I've had a few losses which I think is due to me being new to competitive battling. The only major problem this team has is when it's fighting against StallRein. Other than that, no problems at all.
