My Third Team! OU Sun!

Hi! Welcome to my Third RMT! Here I will be showing my new OU Sun team that I made. I know that it will need improvements because its only my third team so I am a noob.

Team Building Process!

Obviously all Sun teams start with Ninetales.

I always wanted to try Infernape on a Sun team, so I added him. I was thinking about Darmanitan but Darmanitan needs Choice Scarf or it gets out sped by a lot of the metagame so I went for Infernape because it doesn't need Scarf.

So far I had Infernape and Ninetales. Once before I was wrecked by a Charizard on an Opponents Sun team, so I wanted to try it on mine.

Team so far: Ninetales, Infernape, Charizard

Then I wanted 2 Chlorophyll sweepers because they are so effective with the sun up. I wanted one Special Sweeper and one Physical sweeper. I went with Venusaur and Sawsbuck.

Team so far: Ninetales, Infernape, Charizard, Sawsbuck, Venusaur.

Sun teams hate hazards (mainly Stealth Rocks) so I needed a Spinner for the last spot. I went with Donphan because he has really high Defense. He also learns Roar so it basically gives me a free win against Baton Pass teams because I can just Roar them out when they are boosting even when they are behind a Substitute.

The Team!: Ninetales, Infernape, Charizard, Sawsbuck, Venusaur and Donphan!

UPDATE: Charizard has been changed to Gothitelle. Donphan has been changed to Forretress.

The Team!

Ninetales!

Ninetales @ Leftovers
Trait: Drought
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 Spe
Calm Nature
- Flamethrower
- Will-O-Wisp
- Substitute
- Hypnosis

This is a Defensive set to help me win the weather war. Will-O-Wisp lands burns on Physical threats. Substitute is because its bulky so I think it helps a lot especially when I force a switch and use it. Flamethrower is so I am not completely shut down by Taunt and Its STAB + Boosted by Sun. I prefer it over Fire Blast because of the Accuracy. Hypnosis, even though it misses, helps when I force a switch and whoever they switch to gets hit by the Hypnosis and then I can get a free Sub or switch out.

Infernape!

395.png

Infernape @ Choice Band
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Flare Blitz
- Stone Edge
- U-turn

This guy is an absolute BEAST! I love Infernape because of its 120 BP Dual STABs. I especially like Flare Blitz because its boosted by Sun even though he takes Recoil. Stone Edge is so it can KO anything that resists its Dual STABs like Dragonite. U-Turn is for Scouting. The Choice Band makes him hit harder and 120 BP STAB Sun boosted Choice Band boosted Flare Blitz will do a massive chunk to anything that doesn't resist it.

Gothitelle

606.png

Gothitelle @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Shadow Tag
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Trick

Gothitelle is a BEAST with the Shadow Tag ability, allowing it to trap opponents Pokemon so they can't switch out. The set allows me to trap Politoed and Tornadus-T and KO with Thunderbolt. I can also cripple walls with Trick, giving them Choice Scarf and rendering them useless. HP Ice is for dragons and Psychic is the STAB and for Fighting types. The EV Spread and Scarf lets me outspeed Tornadus-T and Politoed.

Venusaur!

3.png

Venusaur @ Life Orb
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 72 HP / 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 180 Spd
Timid Nature
- Growth
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Sludge Bomb

Venusaur is a BEAST when it has a Growth boost. Venusaur is my Special Sweeper because of its Chlorophyll ability which doubles its Speed AND makes Growth boost its Special Attack by two stages instead of one. Giga Drain > SolarBeam to get recovery but I am thinking about putting SolarBeam on. HP Fire takes down things like Ferrothorn and Skarmory because after a Growth HP Fire will KO especially because its boosted by the Sun. Sludge Bomb is so it has another powerful STAB and to give it better coverage. The only thing that can really counter it is Heatran because Venusaur cant really do anything to it. Its not effected by HP Fire because of its Flash Fire ability and its not effected by Sludge Bomb. Giga Drain is not very effective.

Sawsbuck!

616.png

Sawsbuck @ Life Orb
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 112 HP / 248 Atk / 148 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Horn Leech
- Nature Power
- Return

My Second Chlorophyll Sweeper! This guy is my Physical Sweeper. Horn Leech is for Recovery and Nature Power will be Earthquake so it can KO Heatran. Return is 102 BP because of 252 Happiness and its STAB. Swords Dance is its set up move. Chlorophyll doubles its speed so hes basically a complete BEAST! Life Orb increases its Sweeping Capabilities and it can recover the Life Orb damage with Horn Leech. I think hes better than Shiftry but if there is a good reason for me to use Shiftry then I will use him instead.

Forretress

205.png

Forretress @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 192 Def / 64 SAtk / 2 Spd
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Forretress is my Dragon resist and also it can lay down Rocks. it also gives me a Rapid Spinner to get rid of the entry hazards Sun teams hate. HP Ice is to stop dragons setting up on me and Volt Switch is to get away when I am trapped by something like Magnezone and if he brings me to Sturdy I can still use Forretress as death fodder later.

Conclusion!

Thank you all so much for reading this RMT! I hope that I get suggestions on how to improve this team. Also you can try it out yourself because after this I will include an Importable. Thanks!

Your team is incredibly weak to rain. Politoed and Tornadus-T by themselves destroy your team with just hurricane and scald.

Try focusing on only one of your sun sweepers, so you're not too dependent on sun being up. Keep one, and replace the other two with things that can beat its counters reliably or counter other weathers.

I wouldn't recommend Charizard on an OU team ever; try Volcarona instead. Less power initially, but better STABs and is stronger after a quiver dance. Plus not losing 12% every turn from its ability.

Alright. I believe I have some credibility when it comes to rating sun teams, so here I am. First off, your lack of a Steel-type is disconcerting, since it allows Pokemon such as Dragonite, Garchomp, and Salamence to tear apart your team with little to no trouble. To fix that, I'd recommend using Physically Defensive Forretress over Donphan. This change gives your team a much-needed member for taking on the dragons scattered across OU, while maintaining a Rapid Spinner that your team needs to keep living. To help combat opposing Politoed and Tornadus-T, I'd recommend using Choice Scarf Gothitelle over Charizard. Gothitelle, while it certainly is a much weaker Pokemon than Charizard, provides much more utility, due to Shadow Tag, which allows it to trap and kill Politoed, letting your weather reign supreme.

To nitpick your team, I'd recommend using an EV spread of 72 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA / 180 Spe with a Timid nature on your Venusaur. This EV spread allows you to outpace all Scarf Latios, while maintaining enough bulk to live through an Adamant LO Mamoswine's Ice Shard after SR damage and power to sweep after a Growth boost. Infernape's main advantage over Victini, which packs more power than it with V-create, is to abuse its higher speed. To do that, I'd recommend using a Jolly nature over the Adamant nature currently present. For your Ninetales itself, I'd recommend using SJCrew's EV spread of 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 Spe and a Timid nature. This EV spread and nature allows you to live through a Sash Dugtrio's Earthquake and cripple it with Will-O-Wisp, as well as outpace and burn all forms of Mamoswine. A summarized list of changes can be seen below.
