Ok, so this team is designed to revolve around Volt Turn, like from Gen 5.
Some Notes:
1. Yes, I know my lead doesn't carry stealth rock and Forretress is a slow bro (ba dum tsh). However, Sticky Web would be invaluable for Pokemon like Scizor, who need all the slows they can get.
2. Before you ask, no, these are not my final nicknames. These are to help give you an idea of where I'm going with this.
So here is my new team.
Lead (Heatran) @ Air Balloon
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earth Power
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Heatran is a very interesting pick for this team: although he does not carry U-turn or Volt Switch, he can deal with a lot of the checks for this team, including Fire types with Earth Power and Flash Fire, Dragon Types with Hidden Power Ice, and Fire Blast for Steel-type walls, allowing him to support after he completes his lead role.
SpecSweep (Clawitzer) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Mega Launcher
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
IVs: 30 Atk / 30 SAtk / 30 Spd
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam
- U-turn
- Water Pulse
Why Clawitzer and not Venasaur? There are a few reasons. For one, while the double speed in the sun on Venasaur seemed like a good idea at the time, the sun required also strengthens the Fire attacks that Venasaur, Forretress, and Scizor all fear. I figured that this was shooting myself in the foot, and replaced him with a special sweeper who resists fire attacks.
Support (Xatu) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Adamant Nature
- Roost
- Thunder Wave
- U-turn
- Psychic
I figured being able to easily reflect stones and other nasties back at the opponent would be as effective as Talonflame (see my previous post) at doing his vengeful job. Xatu can also stop things like Pinsir dead in its tracks with Thunderwave, and also packs U-turn, like Talonflame did. Talonflame and Xatu are interchangeable, though, as far as I can tell.
SpecWall (Rotom-Wash) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Modest Nature
- Volt Switch
- Trick
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
You can't have a Volt turn team without Rotom-W and Scizor (Can you? I mean, you can, but it won't be very good.) Having Rotom-W takes care of Fire types and Ground types with Hydro Pump, stops set-up sweepers cold with Trick, and takes out Water and Flying types with Thunderbolt and Volt Switch. Clawitzer also does this with Water Pulse and Ice Beam, however, so Rotom-W may be interchangable with something else (Celebi?)
PhysSweep (Scizor) @ Scizorite/Life Orb
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Superpower
Scizor is another important piece to the puzzle, as he can switch in and out rather quickly with Rotom-W. This is a basic Swords Dance Scizor, with a Mega Evolution for a buff in Attack. I do not know, however, if this is bigger than that of a life orb, so that is up there as well.
PhysWall (Forretress) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Lax Nature
- Toxic Spikes/Gyro Ball
- Rapid Spin
- Spikes
- Volt Switch
Lastly, we have Forretress, because Rapid spin is your friend. Forretress also carries volt switch, allowing him to keep the cycle going and break up some sweepers. I have considered putting Gyro Ball in to replace Toxic Spikes, so that is also a possibility. Ferrothorn is not an option here due to the fact that Forretress carries Rapid Spin, where Ferrothorn doesn't.
