[SET]
Vullaby (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Weak Armor
Level: 5
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 76 Def / 236 SpA / 196 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Nasty Plot
- Air Slash
- Heat Wave
[SET COMMENTS]
Already a versatile physical attacker, Vullaby stretches its offensive options as a capable special sweeper. Weak Armor allows it to outspeed all relevant unboosted threats, which in conjunction with Nasty Plot can take over games. Heat Wave deals solid damage to checks like Hisuian Voltorb and Steel types such as Pawniard, OHKOing them at +2. Unfortunately, Vullaby's lackluster Special Attack means it must run a Modest nature, trading its 16 speed for much needed firepower. Tera Ghost allows Vullaby to be immune to two of the most threatening moves from Mienfoo, Fake Out and High Jump Kick, and resist Poison moves such as Gunk Shot and Sludge Bomb to aid its setup.
Vullaby is an easy fit for any balanced or offensive team. While Nasty Plot forgoes the utility of Knock Off, that role can easily be filled by a number of teammates such as Mienfoo and Stunky to soften Vullaby's checks into sweeping range. Balanced teams with more passive Pokemon appreciate a strong switch-in that can use opposing Knock Offs as momentum. Foongus and Hisuian Voltorb are balance staples that make particularly good teammates for Vullaby. By reliably switching in on Electric attacks from key Pokemon like an opponent's Hisuian Voltorb, they open setup opportunities with Spore or pivot for momentum. Bulky and hyper offense teams especially appreciate Nasty Plot Vullaby. Typical hyper offense strategies all benefit from this set, with screens Impidimp allowing Vullaby to set up more safely, complementary sweepers such as Shellder overwhelming physical checks, or Pokemon like Pawniard benefitting from the removal of Fighting types. Defensively, Mienfoo and a strong priority user like Stunky are a problematic pairing for Vullaby, as they take advantage of Weak Armor drops. Additionally, Glimmet and Hisuian Growlithe are extremely threatening checks, resisting both its attacks, threatening OHKOs with rock STABs, and getting up Stealth Rock. Thus, combinations of rock counters and trappers, such as Mudbray, Trapinch, and Gothita are essential to catch rock types and priority users, allowing for safe Terastallization or setup. Removal options such as Drillbur or Toedscool can support Vullaby's longevity and ability to take hits when setting up, albeit less common.
