National Dex Invitational II

Welcome to the National Dex Invitational! Back in 2022, we hosted our first and only invitational to date with ChrisPBacon coming out as the winner. Like the prior invitational, players were selected based upon achievements, experience, and playing ability by a council consisting of myself, Isza , and Kyo . This tour will be double elimination with a best of 3 wins format. Each round will last 1 week (barring r1), and we will have randomized seeding for the first round to determine all matchups going forward. There is a cash prize for top placements. Prize distribution will be $200 USD to the winner, $100 to the runner up, and $50 each to the semi finalists, courtesy of Isza and Kyo.

Specific Rules

- Replays are mandatory
- Matches must be played on PS/SmogTours
- Tiering changes will only affect the subsequent rounds
- Best of 3, double elimination

maybe slightly? biased predicts

ezra (65) vs (35) Unowndragon - ezra is buffed by the 'cash prize phenomenon'
Adriyun (45) vs (55) Nashrock - unfortunately adriyun is poised to lose with the absence of my builds (realistically I think this is a 50-50)
seth (53) vs (47) hi.naming is hard - close game, seth I think is quite in form in nd but iirc gew is in wcop? so he might be a bit more locked in in general
thebestever543 (55) vs (45) Ineros - neither player I've seen too much from but I think mmx has had more exposure to playing in tours so giving him a slight edge
Suzuya (50) vs (50) Kyo - hype matchup, kyo is obviously kyo but suzuya is the GOAT and I've seen him pop off in this tier and realistically I think both have equal chances
entrocefalo (57) vs (43) Kayzn - kayzn hasn't really been playing too much recently so I'm not sure if his tier knowledge is enough to keep up w/ entro who realistically is in better form
hidin (40) vs (60) omarsgarciav - fair play on hidin for saving his sheet last wc but omar pulled off an even better performance w/ major clutches for his team
pdt (55) vs (45) Soul king0 - the dragon tamer is the better player based on history so giving him the edge here but but I think soulking is more locked in for this tour and def has chances
sealoo (50) vs (50) Tempo di anguria - both very solid and engaged mainers in quite good form, can't give either an edge here
Xurkiyee (54) vs (46) Sulo - suLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL (more tour experience on xurkiyee's side altho sulo can def take this)
crying (49) vs (51) Lameflame - likely another highlight match, expecting some great cooks from both players; lameflame's ho spam worked fantastically in wcop and I think really let him find is stride while crying struggled somewhat. This may make him slightly predictable tho and after with zama ban I'm interested to see if his recent tendency will get exploited
ARTYMASION (47) vs (53) Weaselfie - don't have too much info on either player, I think recently I've been more impressed by the latter though
zioziotrip (47) vs (53) Luthier - I think luth's play is just a bit better than zio's but this will be decided by which nd mainer friend passes them better teams
Oculars (???) vs (???) LBN - this set will be a shitshow, expecting brick break garganacl into bulk up recover megamedi screens. Spectators are the winner of this matchup
Fabriisse (48) vs (52) Darkness 789 - was originally gonna put this like 57- in fab's favour but darkness's wc result lead to me believing he isn't as distant from the meta as I thought

hi this is my first time doing predicts for a big tour and in general following a tour actively so i'm going to do the best I can but these will most certainly be biased

ezra vs Unowndragon I'm not familiar with unown's playstyles but I just know Ezra is gonna load some crazy stall/fat teams that'll take 30 mins per game and that makes me want to pick him.
Adriyun vs Nashrock - Close match but I think Nashrock has the edge when it comes to building better teams. This game will def be a hype one, esp cuz I know both of the players.
seth vs hi.naming is hard - Seth is still on that NDWC ring high rn and I think that'll push him over the edge.
thebestever543 vs Ineros - HEAR ME LOUD AND CLEAR RIGHT NOW, MY GOAT INEROS WILL SHOW OUT AND POP THE FUCK OFF THIS TOUR AND THE REST OF THIS YEAR
Suzuya vs Kyo - Kyo is Kyo. I will add that I believe that all 3 games will go down to the wire between the two because they're both excellent players
entrocefalo vs Kayzn - With the Zama ban and the fact that Kazyn hasn't been playing much, I think this will make Kazyn slip up and get "does he know"'d mid match
hidin vs omarsgarciav - hidin is a very good mainer with great building and great composure but omar's recent performances make it almost impossible for me to pick a
pdt vs Soul king - Soul's def got something up his sleeve that he isn't revealing. This game will be close but I still think it's in Soul's favor.
sealoo vs Tempo di anguria - I haven't seen Tempo play at all ever but I hear great things about them. I'm only picking sealoo because I'm more familiar with his game.
Xurkiyee vs Sulo - Both are great players. I think sulo has more meta knowledge but xurk has more tour knowledge, so it can go either way
ChrisPBacon vs Taka - Chris is a top 5 ND Main's rn imo so this is just me glazing him. Expecting great things from both players though.
crying vs Lameflame - Another close set, but I am absolutely in love with Lameflame's teambuilding
ARTYMASION vs Weaselfie - I don't know a whole lot of what either players can do in a tour setting so all I'm going to say is gl to both and we'll see
zioziotrip vs Luthier - I know nothing about either player so I can't accurately evaluate their play. Exited to learn though.
Oculars vs LBN - LMAO. this set will be entirely based off how either players are feeling, what they ate that day, what the weather is like, what screen brightness their monitors are at, etc.
Fabriisse vs Darkness 789 - Darkness's WC performances leads me to believe that this will be in Darkness's favor.

Here are my completely unbiased predictions totally not based off of who I like more

ezra vs Unowndragon
idk who this ezra guy is but he’s prolly mid :worrywhirl:

Adriyun vs Nashrock
Adriyun takes this win so hard I cannot lie to yall, he’s simply the goat.

seth vs hi.naming is hard
Gonna have to go with seth here, he has pretty chill vibes

thebestever543 vs Ineros
Ineros TTT

Suzuya vs Kyo
Could go either way

entrocefalo vs Kayzn
Kayzn has good odds here

hidin vs omarsgarciav
lil h takes this dub laughing all the way to the bank

pdt vs Soul king
pdt is chill, they’re probably p good

sealoo vs Tempo di anguria
apparently sealoo is cracked!

Xurkiyee vs Sulo
SuLo

ChrisPBacon vs Taka
Chris has a pretty funny name so my bets on him

crying vs Lameflame
crying’s Ava literally has a gun, how do u beat a trainer with a gun? exactly

ARTYMASION vs Weaselfie
Arty my goat

zioziotrip vs Luthier
Could go either way idk

Oculars vs LBN
The Sheik of Shamone slams ez

Fabriisse vs Darkness 789
No idea here I cannot lie to you.

Preds!!!!!!!!

ezra 75/25 Unowndragon
ezra has been playing at a high level for a min, while UD hasnt had that true deep run in SV. Ladder hours between these 2 might be >10k

Adriyun 60/40 Nashrock
I think adriyun executes better in-game and has results to corroborate, while also being more unpredictable w/ team choice vs nash, who had a pretty poor ndwc despite misfortune at times and hasnt been as involved with nd in recent months

seth 55/45 hi.naming is hard
seth is playing some of his best mons rn while gew's ndwc performance was shockingly average for his pedigree. However, ive seen gew pull some insane bullshit. If he ever sends out a "I think I lose here" ... he's already won.
1717272195500.png

thebestever543 51/49 Ineros
tough call, i think both players are still acclimating to the tour scene and can be prone to in-game errors, however, they are two of the more involved people I know metagame-wise, which will hopefully result in exciting team choices and passionate games. I favor MMx's in-game a bit more which is why I give him the nod over Ineros slightly

Suzuya 48/52 Kyo
suzuya's execution is impeccable, but kyo really has a knack for building teams that are in his comfort zone and playing them precisely. Although the backend of his NDWC leaves a bit to be desired, overall I think kyo holds a significant builder advantage while the playing game is minmal.

entrocefalo 52/48 Kayzn
rly close game between fellow europeans, but when it comes to tour time, entro is pretty damn good at outsourcing good teams and playing them well. PugGod plays well, but it comes down to who has better equipped prep. Assuming a neutral mu, i slightly favor entro's execution, but assuming a neutral mu this tier is impossible so can swing either way. Fun one

hidin 51/49 omarsgarciav
ill take the upset here, i think hidin had great execution during ndwc, although itd be disingenuous to say it was better than omar's who absolutely cooked just about everyone after he brought world's worst team vs chris. However, omar's opponents generally seemed unaware of his absolutely ruthless style of play with constant pressure and momentum, which is something i think hidin can poke holes in with a solid team and take this in what should be a good 3 games. Omar looked like the best SV ND player on the site during playoffs though, he's a serious threat to take this if he keeps it up.

pdt 60/40 Soul king0
as someone on USS, i can say pdt is a certified TRYHARD and will go all-out. Soul king0 had a good NDWC, while pdt had a terrific one, but when it really comes down to the plays you need to make to win a game, i put my faith in pdt to make them more consistently than soulking. Exciting mu but pdt might pull up with outlandish jank if he's prepping alone LOL

sealoo vs Tempo di anguria
PRC always wins.

Xurkiyee 55/45 Sulo
june and july is xurk's month, and after a short intermission between now and NDWC, I believe he's back and ready to cook. Ideally we see a relicanth? Sulo has been quietly improving leaps and bounds as can be seen during DLC2 kickoff though, and builds solid teams (with god awful nicknames). Overall, I think xurk plays a bit better in-game. USS advances either way

ChrisPBacon 53/47 Taka
chris looked in good form during ndwc, although Fat Man stays Fat. Taka had a pretty meh ndwc with a 1-2 record in sv, but he is also coming off a DLC2 kickoff win, showing he can execute vs the best when it matters. Comes down to prep, if taka has the tools to win the mu, he can navigate it

crying 52/48 Lameflame
lf had a really good ndwc and has been enlightened that in this meta you load HO and say fuck it we ball. But, crying is probably the worst opponent to ever load into if you have predictable load patterns. i think all-around crying executes better in-game compared to lf, but lf has a rly solid grasp on building rn. If lameflame can throw a curveball while crying is expecting a slider, he can definitely take this

ARTYMASION 40/60 Weaselfie
weas has been piloting super well as of late, and his teambuilding style is nightmarish for artymasion's often weird fat structures. If artymasion can secure an edge in the builder and catch weas off guard, he could take this, but i favor weas a majority of the time here

zioziotrip 49/51 Luthier
both players should rock midwest ca for culture! zio has results in nd that r very hard to argue with, while luth's ndwc leaves some to be desired, although he had a great dlc2 kickoff finals run. If luth gets a team in his comfort zone, he can surely pull out a win, but zio historically does great in nd. despite all of this, i have a gut feeling luth pulls this one out, both are pretty equally skilled pilots at the end of the day

Oculars 49/51 LBN
what a hilarious mu LOL this is gonna be fucked up to watch. im a believer in ndou lbn though oc had a nasty wc. if there's anyone who is gonna be a sweaty tryhard in prep, its def lbn. I cant really top chris's quote about this series, interesting one to watch

Fabriisse 58/42 Darkness 789
im a bigggggg NoobGod fan, i think he has a very interesting teambuilding style combined with good piloting and can probably take on darkness's equally interesting teambuilding style (this is a nice way of saying cheese). Pretty prep intensive series, but overall favor fab

ezra 80/20 Unowndragon
I am taking the Magnus of NDOU for this one, he’s the most consistent player on ladder and those results have held up in tour as well. I don’t know who I would even take against this man in the ND sphere.

Adriyun 60/40 Nashrock
Adriyun embodies everything I do not like about competitive mons, he is very good at piloting volt-turn and his wc results haven’t gone unnoticed. Nashrock is pretty generic with his building and I think Adriyun will exploit that by doing what he does best.

seth 55/45 hi.naming is hard
Seth you're one of the best players when you’re at your best but you’re not always consistent with your performances. Gewge, I don’t know much about you apart from your infamous early gg gambits but you’re based off wc performance, I am giving Seth the edge.

thebestever543 100/0 Ineros
Not going to elaborate too much on this one, I shouldn’t bother playing if I thought I would lose.

Suzuya 50/50 Kyo
I am not trying to be biased but you may sense a pattern here. You simply can’t prep for Kyo, this guy will bring anything he wants, but he’s an exceptional player. I wager it will come down mu mostly.

entrocefalo 60/40 Kayzn
I think entroce is one of the best players atm, I’d take him over most of the people on here. Consistent tour results, great team (stealer) builder and executes well.

hidin 48/52 omarsgarciav
An amazing performance from omar in wc, I am excited to see him play again and hidin also had a great comeback in wc. This will be a good mu, I can see it either way

pdt 45/55 Soul king
Ive held some pretty critical views of SK in the past because of his team choices. In hindsight, I’ll admit I’m wrong, you should always play with what you’re comfortable with. PDT played exceptional during wc, I don’t favor his team choice. He had a lot of resources on south and I think his prep will suffer from that, so I slightly favor SK

sealoo 49/51 Tempo di anguria
I honestly haven’t seen sealoo play in a while so I’m making this pred based off what I’ve seen. Slight edge to

Xurkiyee 55/45 Sulo
Both solid players, I think bRUH is a better player when it comes to performance, but despite building some unique teams his teams don’t seem very consistent and I think they’re hit or miss a lot.

ChrisPBacon 49/51 Taka
Chris can be described as a one dimensional player in ND but he is a goat contender for a reason. Taka I’ve had the honor of playing against in a PU ghosting tour, I don’t think he’ll be outmatched unless he loads fat, I’ll go with the underdog here.

crying 40/60 Lameflame
I think crying is a bit washed, LF had an amazing comeback performance in wc, we’ll see if crying can redeem himself.

ARTYMASION 40/60 Weaselfie
Weaselfie is a bit more experienced in the tour scene, I’m glad to see Arty here and o hope we get to play a bo3 at some point.

ioziotrip 65/35 Luthier
Zio has been pretty consistent from what I’ve seen of him, he seems to be pretty comfortable in ND despite not being hyperactive in the format. I have nothing bad to say about Luthier, I haven’t seen enough from him in ND, I don’t think he is as adjusted as Zio.

Oculars 55/45 LBN
I don’t know much about LBNs team choice, Ocualrs is great at prep, more versatile than people give him credit for.

Fabriisse 49/51 Darkness 789
I do not know. Solely off wc performance, I hope to be

Re: Oculars vs LBN

LBN was tourbanned for reasons unrelated to this tour and is disqualified from competing. Given it’s R1 and relatively early on in the week, we have chosen to replace LBN with Mada

New matchup: Oculars vs Mada

You two will have until the normal deadline of Sunday 11:59pm -4, however, an extension will be granted if requested due to the short nature of the current deadline.
