Welcome to the 2024 National Dex Monotype Circuit Playoffs! This is what the entire year's NatDex Monotype tournament circuit has been leading up to, we now finally have our 16 playoff contestants. The whole tournament will be hosted in this thread. The winner of this tournament will receive a name color change in PS (sponsored by Tico) they've been playing to qualify for over the past year!

General recommendations:
  • Contact your opponent as soon as possible upon the round going up. Activity cases are going to be handled in a very strict manner.
  • When scheduling, offer as wide a swathe of time when you are available to play. 1 hour of activity on one or two weeknights is unlikely to be considered acceptable.
  • Schedule specifically - do not schedule for "Friday afternoon" or "Sunday morning", pick a date, a time and note the timezone.
  • If I catch news of ghosting or some other sort of nefarious play, I reserve the right to investigate to the full limits of my ability in conjunction with the TD team provided there is adequate evidence to warrant it.

Predictions:
(Sunnyboi0 v. Mat) Mat v. Roxie (Roxie v. Hidin)
I feel like Mateeus will definitely try to give Sunnyboi0 a run for his money by bringing innovative an new prep that could easily take his opponent by surprise. The real question for Mateeus is can he produce the level of play needed to win balanced MUs with his often unusual types that are seen as traditionally less viable. Sunnyboi0 definitely has the edge when it comes to their typical types, but will this predictability become a weakness for him? This MU is definitely going to come down to a type skirmish, but I would love to see a longer, more positional game from two players who traditionally play bulky types. 45-55.

No matter who wins between Mat and Sunny, they will be the favorite against Roxie due to their high-experience diff within the NDM tier. Both have played countless tours, individual and team oriented ones. Additionally, they have built a lot of teams for the tier over the year. On the other hand, Roxie is notorious for their avant-garde teambuilding style and could definitely beat them with new techs for the tier. But, will their creativity be enough to avoid succumbing to either of the tier's sages? (For Mat, 45-55 in favor, where for sunny 40-60 in favor due to more knowledge of SV)

Scarfire v. Rinda
No matter the outcome, this will be an interesting match to watch. Both of these players play SV and mostly play NDM in majorly team tours. I'm curious to see what techs they will come up from someone who mostly plays SV versus someone who is well-connected with the French community within the Monotype sphere as a whole. I give Rinda a slight edge due to more overall knowledge of the tier's MUs, but both players are about equally as skilled. 45-55.

Dunes v. Styles
Can't judge my own matchup duh. Enjoy :Excadrill: instead.

Bows v. Trouser Snakes
Bows is coming off a very impressive win against one of the favorites of the tier, which definitely gives them strong momentum going into this matchup. Additionally, there is an activity gap within recent times as Bows has become a rapidly up-and-coming figure within the NDM scene while Trouser Snakes is choosing more to focus on life. (Just for clarity, both choices are great and understandable asw I wish Coo the best with their future life prospects) Despite less involvement, Trouser Snakes is still a great player with some interesting teams that can definitely give Bows a tough time to beat. 55-45.
