Resource National Dex Monotype OM Mega Thread

I would tweak the grass team dropping Mega Sceptile completely for Mega Venusaur, still want that Fire swwITHitchin.
With threats like gouging fire, ogerpon fire, blaziken mega or reshiram, grass autoloses to fire anyway (that's why no heatran on steel). And outside of fire mono, fire is very uncommon (a similar reason for not using a ground mon on water), but mega venusaur could wall a blaziken mega and a ho-oh with no brave bird tho.

WAVE 1 OF POTENTIAL BANS. NDM RU EDITION.
Good morning, evening, afternoon, or night to all of you. Recently the NDM RU council has sat down and depicted some eye catching threats and issues regarding the tier. Voting happened approximately 1:03 am and finished as of today 12/20/2024. Below are the newest bans to the tier.
IMG_2848.png

BY A UNANIMOUS VOTE THE FOLLOWING WILL BE BANNED FROM NDM RU EFFECTIVE TODAY 12/20/2024: ICY ROCK, LATIAS, MEGA PIDGEOT, ACCUPRESSURE.

- :pidgeot mega: & :latias: have proven in trial and error to be two very threatening special attackers in the tier. No Guard + the ability to rain down 100% Hurricanes has shown to be a broken mechanic for this tier. Latias is a threatening Z Crystal user who can wallbreak. Both make building too pressurized and thus were looked upon and deemed broken for the tier.

- Accupressure is uncompetitive by nature as it has the capability of boosting the likes of evasion. Evasion clause is already in effect, but accupressure bypasses it as a move. Thus the move itself will be banned.

- :booster energy: will be banned as it creates a snowball effect in most circumstances, dating into regular NDM which its banned there as well. 4-1, effective 12/20/2024 Booster Energy is banned.

We will keep our eyes on :muk-alola:, :revavroom:, and :porygon2: furthermore.

With ndm ru nearing a month of active play and it's first bans in place here are a few of my favorite teams I've built and my short not super concrete thoughts on the types as a whole in this meta. (will be updated with more types overtime maybe) :P

BUG

https://pokepast.es/c192f5a01f8cffc4
Standard webs balance team. Heracross and Durant are the standout breakers that appreciate the webs speed buff. Forretress removes hazards while forming a defensive core with Araquanid. Vikavolt pivots while dealing with Flying types and Lokix revenge kills opposing threats.

S
:Araquanid:- Yeah it's still great for all of the reasons it's already great in standard play, no reason to not to use it

A
:Durant:- Absurdly strong with Z moves or Banded

:Heracross:- Same reasoning as Durant but with much better stab and coverage

:Lokix:- Great revenge killer that can function as a cleaner with sd sets

:Forretress:- Removes rocks, sets rocks, simple

:Vikavolt:- Huge value against Flying types and as a special attacker with longevity

B
:Slither Wing:- Prolly not bad but without booster I can't see why you'd use it over Heracross (cutie tho)

:Galvantula:- Great into Water teams with agility sets and is the fastest viable web setter

:Venomoth:- I haven't tried it but this is most likely the best Quiver dancer with Buginium Z sets

:Frosmoth:- Ice stab is pretty good to have

:Orbeetle:- Decent screens setter with webs if you wanna try that

C

:Shuckle:- hazards

:Armaldo:- Still a fraud but not a wasted team slot in this tier (stop using it on ladder!!!)

:Yanmega:- I can see the potential for this as a wincon but it's not great

:Golisopod:- I'd feel bad leaving it off the ranking but lokix is unfortunately better in every way (use it on Water)

ELECTRIC

https://pokepast.es/9be853ca6655813d
Offensive webs team with Vikavolt. Thundy and Thorns benefit a ton from webs and get alot of opportunities to boost with prankster and thorns' bulk. Pawmot is a breaker with priority while Manetric is a fast and strong intimidate pivot. Rotom-Mow and Vika provide utility and bulky ground immunities that can fire back with Grass attacks

S

:Thundurus:- Ground immunity with crazy set variety and speed, always use it. The Bulk up set in particular is incredibly oppressive and difficult to stop (thank you Elvira)

A

:Rotom-Mow:- Strong Ground type counter with removal and will-o-wisp for utility

:Manectric-Mega:- Incredibly fast pivot with Fire coverage

:Vikavolt:- Sticky web support and a Ground type counter with longevity and good coverage

:Pawmot:- Fighting type breaker with strong priority and coverage

:Iron Thorns:- Bulky ddance sweeper + a hazard setter if you want

:Heliolisk:- Water counter with great speed, incredible coverage and utility

B

:Pincurchin:- Electric terrain setter, not required but alot of teammates appreciate it

:Galvantula:- More offensive web setter with better speed

:Raichu-Alola:- Restricted to terrain teams but pretty much the main reason you'd be using one, rising voltage with coverage is scary

:Rotom-Heat:- probably not bad but I can't see why you'd ever use it over mow

:Raikou:- Haven't experimented with this at all but I can imagine it's a solid wincon with coverage in scald

:Sandy Shocks:- Hazards + helps in the mirror

:Electrode-Hisui:- Speed incarnate that can nuke Ground types (decent utility too!)

C

:Rotom-Frost:- LETS GO GAMBLING!!!!!

:Kilowattrel:- Zapdos if it was fast and had no moves (probably usable idk)

:Golem-Alola:- You are not effectively trapping much in this tier lol (Forretress and Klefki off the top of my head) but it has rocks ig

FIRE

https://pokepast.es/cc93865987e42446
Sun balance team with scovillain. Torkoal is still in this tier and a mandatory sun setter. Volcanion and Talonflame provide hazard removal and decent defensive utility against Water and Ground attacks while not being passive. Marowak is an electric immunity with great breaking power and Tauros brings Fighting stab and a counter to Rock moves with intimidate and good bulk. Finally Scovillain is of course the premier sun abuser and speed control.

S

:Volcanion:- I'm not 100% on volc being S, Fire doesn't feel like it has many required mons at all but it's defensive utility and Water stab is always great

:Torkoal:- I really don't see a good reason to ever not use Tork here, the sun setting and utility role compression can't be replicated by anything else

A

:Talonflame:- Pretty consistent hazard removal and Ground counter with it's speed and (inconsistent) priority

:Tauros-Paldea-Blaze:- Valuable breaker with good bulk, a great typing and set variety (choiced, bulk up and z moves all function in my experience)

:Scovillain:- Loves not having to deal with Heatran, Scovillain is much more consistent as a sun sweeper with specs or growth

:Houndoom-Mega:- Best mega evolution by far, strong special breaker that becomes ridiculous in the sun

B

:Marowak-Alola:- Speed can let it down but this thing hits like a truck and the Electric immunity is great (needs removal support tho)

:Ninetales:- On teams that want as much sun as possible Ninetales is a legit option, it can hold heat rock while Tork has boots for more consistent removal and healing wish is excellent utility

:Arcanine-Hisui:- Niche but I can see the potential as a scarfer or banded breaker (strong priority too)

:Rotom-Heat:- Screens, Ground immunity, removal, not bad

C

:Salazzle:- Better on Poison but the sub toxic set can just 6-0 ppl sometimes so it has use

:Chandelure:- Chandy can probably cook here, it's the best tr setter and has good set variety

:Camerupt-Mega:- I can see the potential of a Trick room team with this and Marowak + it has decent defensive utility

:Typhlosion:- Eruption go brrr

:Typhlosion-Hisui:- Eruption go brrr (but ghost so it might be decent actually)

:Infernape:- Rocks, Fighting type, good mixed coverage, fast, idk it has traits

ICE

https://pokepast.es/063fb45d62e43ade
Highkey one of the best types rn even after the Icy rock ban. This is a standard Ninetales snow balance team with the usual suspects. Arctozolt and Cetitan are the offensive snow abusers. Piloswine and Avalugg form a defensive core providing hazards and removal. Finally Cloyster is a great breaker and wincon

S

:Ninetales-Alola:- Snow + Fairy typing, you know it's great

A

:Arctozolt:- The best slush rush user with it's near perfect stab

:Cetitan:- Loves Normalium z letting it ignore prior damage for set up, great sweeper

:Cloyster:- Incredibly scary wincon with great coverage and set variety (lowkey on the ban radar)

:Avalugg:- Borderline unkillable on the physical side in snow, hazard removal with recovery and wincon potential with iron press

:Piloswine:- Great typing with hazards and huge bulk

:Articuno:- Removal that threatens Fighting types and has haze, pretty good

B

:Rotom-Frost:- Alot worse with Icy rock gone but the Ground immunity, defog and pivoting is nice

:Froslass:- Spikes + Ghost typing is legit, great speed too

:Sandslash-Alola:- Decent for role compression removal if you don't want Avalugg or Articuno

:Abomasnow-Mega:- Might be a hot take but it's really tanky and has great set variety, not bad (double snow can be useful too)

C

:Glastrier:- I would put this higher if I could but Glastrier isn't unusable, it's a bulky attacker with great coverage

:Frosmoth:- You could maybe justify this on ho but it's not amazing

:Sneasel:- I can see it being usable just for the speed and Dark stab

WATER

https://pokepast.es/ac29200b9aaf6ec9
Rainless team, Water is still good surprise surprise. Empoleon, Slowking and Gastrodon form a great defensive core with Primarina and Mega Sharpedo being strong wincons. Golisopod is a great revenge killer and spikes setter, helping with Grass types.

S

:Empoleon:- Steel type with a great movepool and ability, excellent regardless of the team

:Swampert:- Mandatory Ground type and pivot

:Gastrodon:- Same role as pert but with recovery and sticky hold for knock off absorption

A

:Primarina:- Fairy type wincon and pivot

:Sharpedo-Mega:- Great wincon with strong coverage

:Slowking:- Specially defensive slow pivot with Future sight

:Golisopod:- Spike support and revenge killer with First Impression. You could argue this is a bit too high but it's my list >:3

:Cloyster:- Same as Ice, great sweeper

:Politoed:- Rain setter, not much else but it's important

:Kingdra:- Best swift swim user in the tier with Dragon stab

B

:Floatzel:- Wave crash

:Ludicolo:- Pretty good swift swimmer with Encore or Leech seed for utility

:Araquanid:- Sticky Web is always nice

:Crawdaunt:- Wallbreaker with useful priority

:Seismitoad:- Ground type and swift swim role compression with useful coverage (Power whip especially)

:Suicune:- Incredibly bulky wincon

:Tauros-Paldea-Aqua:- Fighting type with intimidate and solid bulk

:Tentacruel:- Toxapex jr with removal and flip turn pivoting

:Volcanion:- Fire typing is useful and it has good coverage

C

:Quagsire:- Ground type with Unaware (Could be great on semi stall)

:Feraligatr:- Has potential as a sweeper/breaker, especially in the rain

:Mantine:- Special wall that's outclassed by Empoleon but has a Flying type

:Lanturn:- Electric immunity with Heal Bell

I've been enjoying this meta alot and I'm excited to see it's further development

NEW ADDITIONS WITH SOME FAREWELL TO OLD FRIENDS.
JANUARY FIRST RISES AND DROPS TO NDM RU DUE TO TECHNICALITY.

First I would love to say happy new year to everyone. Lets start the year off right with a bit of a tiering change. Council is still in works of looking at more potential bans and opening a sample team submission here. For now, lets get into some unfortunately farewells.
:golisopod:
:grafaiai:
:grimmsnarl:
:talonflame:

If you have any of these Pokemon in your builder on any team, they are no longer able to be used in NDM RU by technicality from NDUU/NDRU rises/drops.

:alakazam:
:blacephalon:
:kleavor:
:ribombee:
:sableye-mega:
:tapu bulu:

These are able to be used now on their respected types.

Some changes that we've voted on since the January tier shifts and based on the progression of the tier in general

BLACEPHALON AND MEGA SABLEYE HAVE BEEN BANNED

- :blacephalon: was an incredibly strong wincon that most types were unable to wall or safely revenge kill while :Sableye-Mega: made dark's defensive core too oppressive

- :cloyster: , :Revavroom: , :Muk alola: and :Tapu Bulu: are currently on the radar

NATIONAL DEX MONOTYPE RU SAMPLE TEAMS

If you're thinking of contributing, great! Please take a moment to read the following.
The teams showcased in this thread should be representative of the various, viable, relevant play-styles and archetypes present in the National Dex Monotype RU OM.

Here are the guidelines for submissions:
  • Make sure submissions are in the [Gen 9] National Dex Monotype format.
  • Provide an importable for your team. Don't use nicknames for your Pokemon.
  • Accompanying sprites and art are appreciated, but not mandatory. All of the sprites can be found here.
  • Replays are highly encouraged and are a great way to demonstrate that the team is effective in the metagame. Make sure your teams are tested.
  • This is not the RMT forum; this thread is not the place to seek feedback on undeveloped teams and concepts.
  • Do NOT Post Memes. They will be deleted.
  • Finally, if you edit your submission based on feedback (or any reason), please make a note of it at the bottom of the post so we know to re-evaluate. You can also PM the council (Elvira , Mateeus, Hyjinks, Bows, Dunes).
