Project National Dex OU: Break This Core (Week 59: Dragonite + Iron Crown)

Gouging Fire @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Atk / 32 SpD / 88 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Earthquake
- Morning Sun

Pretty simple set.
Gouging fire is a great check to M-Mawile and Tapu Koko. The given EVs spread allows Gouging Fire to outpseed Tapu Koko at +1 and OHKO it with Flare Blitz (Earthquake at +1 2HKO's Tera ice Tapu Koko). It also OHKO's M-Mawile with Flare Blitz at +1. M-Mawile can only hit Gouging Fire with Knock Off and Play Rough (it's not running sucker punch in the set) which are both resisted by tera Poison.

NOTE: You can use Earthquake but it is less effective for removing huge threats like this in one go.

CALCS:
+1 136 Atk Gouging Fire Flare Blitz vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko: 282-333 (100.3 - 118.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 32 SpD Gouging Fire in Electric Terrain: 79-93 (19 - 22.4%) -- possible 5HKO

+1 136 Atk Gouging Fire Flare Blitz vs. 116 HP / 0 Def Mawile-Mega: 408-480 (151.1 - 177.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
136 Atk Gouging Fire Flare Blitz vs. 116 HP / 0 Def Mawile-Mega: 270-320 (100 - 118.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Mawile-Mega Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tera Poison Gouging Fire: 59-70 (14.2 - 16.9%) -- possible 6HKO
252+ Atk Mawile-Mega Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tera Poison Gouging Fire: 85-101 (20.5 - 24.3%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

Given EVs to outspeed Mega Mawile. Even with tera, Tapu Koko can't 2HKO Camerupt with crits.

Calcs:

Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 152 HP / 132 Atk / 224 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn
- Defog

132 Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 116 HP / 0 Def Mawile-Mega: 270-320 (100 - 118.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
132 Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tapu Koko: 372-440 (132.3 - 156.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Tera Ice Tapu Koko Hidden Power Ice vs. 152 HP / 0 SpD Tera Ground Landorus-Therian: 192-228 (53.7 - 63.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
132 Atk Tera Ground Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Tera Ice Tapu Koko: 248-294 (88.2 - 104.6%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO

Landorus-Therian kills Mawile-Mega and if you Tera Ground you win the 1v1 against Tapu Koko if they Tera Ice.

This replay demonstrates this particular Landorus-Therian set taking advantage of an otherwise nearly perfect counterteam.

Just qd in front of either of them and you insta win because maw doesn’t have sucker and koko will lose to Volc just roosting and clicking qd. Maw clicking knock doesn’t matter because once you boost you can just win the game right there because most Koko offenses do not like a boosted Volc.

Not going to lie, this core kinda stumped me for a bit until I realized the Wonderful Frog existed. You wall everything this core does to you because you have thick fat and you don’t get 2hkod from heat crash because you are chunky. Also this isn’t the actually good set in drag/fire z which is nice. The EVs allow to 2hko gouging with earth power, outspeed Pokémon trying to creep mmaw, and maxing physdef for other threats like Waterpon and Mlop.

+1 252+ Atk Gouging Fire Heat Crash (80 BP) vs. 248 HP / 156+ Def Thick Fat Venusaur-Mega: 134-158 (36.9 - 43.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after 1 layer of Spikes
80 SpA Venusaur-Mega Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Gouging Fire: 176-208 (50.1 - 59.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
28 Atk Diancie-Mega Diamond Storm vs. 248 HP / 156+ Def Venusaur-Mega: 111-132 (30.5 - 36.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after 1 layer of Spikes

Ability: Shell Armor
Tera Type: Fire / Steel
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shell Smash
- Headlong Rush
- Seed Bomb
- Smack Down / Protect / Tera Blast

Courtesy of me me showing my sister these two mons and asking her what she thought could beat this and her saying "turtle", tort here actually does a really good job here because of taking nothing from heat crash because of its weight and also out speeding +1 gouging after a shell smash by 1 point without a +spe nature. The white herb allows u to beat gouging in a worse case scenario when u come in on it dding, u shell smash as they either hit you or dd again and due to your defense being neutral again you can tank a heat crash from that situation.

The last slot is pretty up in the air, you can run smack down to help vs opposing flyers such as corvi or skarm which dont mind taking a stone edge, protect allows u to scout a gouging tera in case it wants to tera ground against you to live headlong and lastly tera blast fire allows u to hit the aforementioned steel birbs.

A tera type of fire is used to allow u to be immune to will o and resist heat crash from gouging, bullet punch from sciz and moonblast from diancie-m.

Calcs:
+2 252+ Atk Gouging Fire Heat Crash (40 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Torterra: 254-300 (76.7 - 90.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
